Day Three Hundred Fifty

February 26, 2021 at 10:24 am by Claudia

Finished.

You’d think this puzzle would have been easier than the Piano Lesson, but in some ways it was harder. Of course, the entire process was hampered by my back problems. The back is getting better, by the way. It will stay that way if I remember to be careful and manage my puzzle time – and refrain from sitting there for hours.

I neglected to take a picture of the box for the next puzzle project, but I’ll share it with you on tomorrow’s post.

Another lovely sunny day today. Don is going to retrieve the stockings full of salt (or maybe the salt has melted and they’re just empty stockings?)  from the gutter because it’s going to rain Saturday and Sunday. We don’t want them clogging up the works.

Exciting, right?

We’re watching a series on Amazon Prime –  A French Village. It’s all about a village that is occupied by the Nazis in WWII. It was recommended to us by a friend. It premiered in 2009, so it’s several years old, but we’re hooked. It’s really compelling and Don, especially, is fascinated by that time in history.

I’m enjoying The Moving Toyshop  by Edmund Crispin. Crispin is considered one of the stars of the golden age of British mysteries. He writes whodunits with wonderfully eccentric characters and has a wicked sense of humor, as well.

Other than that, I’m deleting tons of photos from my laptop, which is an ongoing process. And I’m trying to figure out why my iPhone won’t turn on sometimes, even when it’s charged. So far, and it’s only happened twice, if I plug it into my laptop after unsuccessfully trying to boot it up, it turns on immediately.

I don’t need a problem with my phone during this lockdown. There is no way I’m heading to an Apple store, the nearest of which is over an hour away from our house. And in a mall. Wish me luck.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Such a colorful puzzle! Great job! We expect sun and warmer days for the weekend so I will have to get outside for a walk. I’ll be walking slowly as I fell last week and bashed my nose and skinned my knees – but thank goodness I did not break anything! Could have been much worse!!
Have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

I fell on our stairs about a week ago! Big bruise on my tush, banged up head, and part of the reason for my back problems. Doing much better now. I feel your pain!

      Stay safe, Ellen.

Claudia, I hope you’re okay; I’m so sorry that you had a fall. Pamper yourself for now til you feel better. A bad fall is no joke.

French Village sounds interesting. Another one to put on our watch list.

I don’t know anything about iPhones as I’ve always had Android phones, but when I googled about your iPhone and the problem, a lot of forums came up that might possibly help. I don’t know if you’ve already looked into this. But beats having to go to the Apple store unless you absolutely have to! The Apple store closest to our house at least is in one of those outdoor malls, so I see people waiting outside in line, socially distanced. The “Apple Police” stand right outside the door. ;-) Good luck!

I automatically google about these things. I was googling about this at 7 am. The problem is, all of the possible solutions are for problems not quite like mine.

      Thanks, Melanie.

I’m happy to hear your back is better. I love that puzzle, I may try to find one to put together with my Mom. A French Village sounds good. I like to check out your recommendations. Raining again here so feeling low energy. Reading is perfect for these days.

Claudia have you tried doing a hard reset of your iPhone? Sometimes a reset will fix any glitches in the system. I’m in a similar situation regarding going to an Apple store. The left USB port on my Macbook isn’t working and the left speaker is garbled. I really don’t want to have to go stand in a line to get it repaired.

I’ve been dealing with deleting laptop photos too. When I took care of all the ones from 2020 at the beginning of the year, deleting many and moving many others to files like “family,” “friends,” “Lizzie,” etc., I freed up about 8 or 9 gigs. Now I have to go through the individual files. How many sunsets of the lake do I need? Not that many! It’s a huge job but feels so good when done. I’m also in the photo album purging, dumping images that looked great back then and I’m much better now! Sending photos of people to the actual people, scanning the ones I want to keep, at least for awhile. When you’re an only kid, there aren’t many who want a lot of those originals. Especially these days, though the purist in me says you can’t beat the original photo on paper. (But then, I’ve got a paper-thing. That’s how I read, too!)

The puzzle looks fabulous. I can relate to the back thing — that happened to me last summer! But it was worth it. And glad you are enjoying The Moving Toyshop. I really love those old classics! Check out The British Library Crime Series when you have a chance. There are many fun ones there!

    Have a terrific weekend.

It’s so overwhelming since I took photos for the blog for 13 years (multiples) and never deleted them. I’ve decided I’ll do a little deleting every day.

I have some British Library Crime editions, Jeanie. Not a whole lot, but some! Got them at Mysterious Bookshop in NYC.

      Stay safe!

Love the puzzle. Sorry about you falling down the stairs last week. But I am glad you are getting better. Am reading a book right now that has me interested in reading Doctor Zhivago and to watch the movie. I realize that the book is historical fiction. The name of the book is The Secrets We Kept. If I understand correctly the storyline is about getting the copy of Doctor Zhivago out of the USSR.

I finished a puzzle today too, a relatively easy one from Cobble Hill. I like their puzzles and have another one I may start tomorrow.

My niece’s step-son died today from a brain aneurysm that caused multiple seizures and strokes. He just turned 32 and this was the second time. He was handsome, tall and thin, looked like the picture of health. This happened this past Saturday and he never regained consciousness. Kim and her husband were on their way to the hospital this morning to say good-bye and turn off the life-support but, he died before they got there. My heart was breaking for them having to make that decision.

Less than 2 years ago he went through 2 brain surgeries and 2 stomach surgeries, all caused by some rare tumor in his stomach that caused extremely high blood pressure which caused the aneurysm and several strokes. When Kim, my niece, talks about this I understand what she is telling me, but I can not repeat it because I can’t remember all the names of the tumors and medical lingo. She is a medical person and is good at talking it.

Thanks for letting me put this here. Sort of just getting it out.

    Anywhy, take care…

    Kelly

A heartbreaking story. I am so sorry.
My 21 year old granddaughter Heather died 14 years ago, and I still think about her every day.
My thoughts, and prayers are coming out to you, and your family in your grief.
His name please, if it’s not too much to ask.
I believe their names are important, and I would like to include his name in my prayer.

Hi Janice, Thank you for your kind words. His name is Jason Bowie Jr.
I am sorry to hear about your granddaughter. What is her name? Oh such painful hurts. My son died at age 30 and June 11 it will be 19 years. Some days it feels much more recent. When I think of him and get sad, I have to pull up a fond memory and then change the subject.

Thanks for sharing his name. Her name is Heather Rose Ingram.
losing young ones leaves that wondering of what their lives would have been like.
But I’m sure you know that.
All we can do is honor them by keeping them close in our hearts.

That puzzle is a world of wonder! Maybe my favorite so far. As we age, it’s so much easier to hurt ourselves, backs especially, and it seems to take longer to heal. That’s rough when you’re used to being as active as you are. I have a knee that is in desperate need of a replacement and is no longer helped much by Tylenol. But I bought some roll on CBD pain reliever and I’m shocked at how well it works. I just have to make sure the cats get no where near it, so I apply it in bed and quickly cover up my leg. I’m going today (Sat.) to get my first Covid shot. It really is like a crapshoot. I’ve been checking the VAMS which has consistently reported no appointments available, and when I found a site that had openings, the system wouldn’t let me register. Very frustrating! Then I discovered by accident (it wasn’t listed anywhere as a vaccination site) that the Walgreen’s just down the street from us was giving the Moderna vax, and lo! and behold, a whole day of appointments for today. It’s concerning that the information was not on any of the several maps of sites. I wonder how many places are out there that people don’t know about? Anyway, I hope you can find something closer to you soon, but having the appointment has taken a load of my mind. I couldn’t sleep very well last night because I’m excited. Not like when I was a kid and going to Disneyland kept me up, but, hey…that was last century. Stay safe!!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
