Day Three Hundred Seventy-Six

March 24, 2021 at 10:37 am by Claudia

I finished this early in the afternoon. Don heard me complain about the dark pieces many times…but, as always, suddenly you insert two or three pieces and everything else goes quickly into place. This is called Three Amigos. I find it delightful. These three older guys who play guitar (Spanish guitar? Mexican? Folk songs? Flamenco? Classical?) get together at night and play music together. There’s a bottle of wine on the table, cups and saucers, a bottle of something spicy, sheet music, and several statues of women. Someone’s hat is on the table, there are two guitars in addition to the ones being played, the hanging lamp bathes the players in light, and you can see nighttime NYC out the window.

Simply wonderful.

I have another one arriving today with a completely different color scheme.

Today is going to be quite rainy. Don has to recycle and has agreed to stop at the post office to buy stamps and check the PO Box, which we haven’t checked at all in more than two months. I know I have at least two envelopes waiting for me. Tomorrow will be a ridiculously warm day for this time of year, it’s supposed to be 75 degrees! CANNOT WAIT.

I’m really enjoying the beautiful writing of John Banville. My heavens, he can write! An example:

The black-branched trees seemed to press forward with desperate eagerness, as though they might at any moment break through the barbed-wire fence that was its border and make their determined way, hobbling along with their roots dragging, across the open expanse before them, to crowd about the house and thrash their limbs furiously against its defenseless walls. – John Banville, Snow.

One sentence. There are a couple of mystery writers that I consider poetic in their prose style; James Lee Burke and John Connolly. John Banville has joined that group, though from what I can tell, he’s a novelist first and foremost, this mystery is the start of a new series. Every sentence is a treat and I find myself rereading them just to give myself a chance to stop and marvel at the beauty of his images.

I believe I’ve found another favorite writer!

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

great puzzle. good job getting the darker, moodier parts done so quickly! glad you have another one on the way.

and a good book to read.

and 75 degree weather ahead. am sure you will enjoy that!

we had a bit of rain monday and quite a bit more of it yesterday. i liked that a lot (it’s my favorite kind of weather), but am also craving sunshine and more daylight hours after i get home. i am gone most weekdays until about 7:00 pm and, though i have lamps, it’s easier to sew, work on counted cross-stitch and even dust what’s in easy reach (imagine that) when the sun is streaming in my west-facing windows. i love those windows, that exposure. i can’t see “my” favorite little park or the art center (three story building is in the way), but i know they are there! and cars driving east on that busy street at night (especially when it’s snowing) look like skiers slaloming down a curvy hill. i like my neighborhood a lot!

must get back to work, but wanted to say “hej” and hope you all are having a nice day.

Do you donate the puzzles after you finish them or do them again at another time?

I’m glad you asked Linda. I have been wondering that too.

I never do them again. Once done, I have no interest in doing them again.

I will most likely donate them to the charity my friend works for – which includes a resale shop.

      Stay safe, Linda.

Among my favorite books is A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin. It is so beautifully written that I find myself re-reading selected sentences and paragraphs to savor each word and the image they create. In fact, enough time has passed (beauty of age – I forget details sooner) – time to pick it up again.

    Happy Spring!

Yes, I know. I get Louise Penny’s newsletter. She announced it at the beginning of March.

Gosh I hope your paperwork eases up, Brenda!

This puzzle is fabulous — Rick would love that one, being a classical guitarist. It reminds me of how (pre-Covid) he would get together with his trio each week for music practice. I can see why it would be a tough one. Can’t wait to see the next one up!

So glad “Snow” is good. I’m always looking for new writers.

Rain here today and I’m torn between painting, puzzle and a new book. We shall see…

Don loved it for the same reasons.

I’m just about to start a new puzzle.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

I really like that puzzle, Claudia!! It still amazes me how quickly you complete them. I would be under the table rocking if I attempted one of them.

Just got an email this morning about American Players Theater (APT) in Spring Green. I mention, because I know you did some coaching work there one summer. They are opening the outdoor venue at 25% with masks & social distancing. I thought their preliminary lineup might interest you: “The 2021 season includes the world-premiere staging of James DeVita’s “An Improbable Fiction,” followed by Tom Stoppard’s “Rough Crossing” and an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Cymbeline” in the Hill Theatre.” This is good news for this area. Being outdoors does help.

75*!! wow! It is only 48* here today and still cloudy. Chance of rain/snow mix overnight. Take care!

Yes, I know! I’m on their mailing list and Brenda did a video announcing he season. I know they’re very excited.

It’s cold and rainy here today and tomorrow and Friday will be in the seventies but then the temps go back down to the fifties.

      Stay safe, Chris!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
