Day Three Hundred Twenty-Five

February 1, 2021 at 10:39 am by Claudia

We’re in the middle of a huge storm that will go on for over 24 hours. I’m not sure how much snow is on the ground at the moment, but Don has been out twice, just to clear a path to the porch and attempting to stay on top of the end of the driveway where the plow piles up a lot of snow. The last official prediction I read yesterday was 12 – 18 inches for the entire Hudson Valley, with some areas getting up to 2 feet. On one hand, it’s an enormous amount of snow and wind to deal with. On the other, it’s a relatively quiet day with very little traffic.

I added the drawer pulls to the desk yesterday. I’m quite pleased with the way this piece turned out. It will go in the bedroom, where I imagine the owner(s) take a moment to sit down and write letters, journals, etc. Oh, since I’m such a fan of planners – I have two of them on the coffee table here in the den at all times – wouldn’t it be neat to find a mini version of a planner? Hmmm.

Here’s a peek at the bathroom wallpaper. I still haven’t dealt with the mess I made, hopefully, that will be done today. But this wall is okay, so here it is.

We have thrown in the towel on Miss Scarlett and the Duke (airing on PBS just before All Creatures Great and Small.) We tried. We vowed to withhold judgement. But after countless eye rolls during last night’s airing, we are moving on. I won’t say more because some of you may be enjoying it and I don’t want to be negative – after all, it’s only our opinion. In its place, we’re going to rewatch episodes of Sherlock, one of our all-time favorite series.

February. It’s coming in like a lion. This is a strange, bittersweet time for me as in one week we will be facing the 5th anniversary of Scout’s passing. It doesn’t seem possible that it’s been five years. But it has. My dad passed away at the end of October 2015 and Scout passed away 3 months later. I need say no more, as all of you are familiar with the heartbreak of loss. You understand.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Oh, Claudia – I do understand, because my Dad passed away in June 2010 and I held it together (or thought I had) and then our beloved shiatzu Belle passed away in August of that same year, and I completely lost it. So hard to believe they have both been gone a decade now. We had a snowstorm over the weekend and my husband had to keep bundling up and going back out to deal with the end of the driveway – the snowplows just kept coming back around to pile even more snow in our driveway! But it was nothing compared to what it sounds like you are facing – stay warm and safe! I 100% agree with Miss Scarlett – I tried but just can’t watch another episode. Just not my cup of tea at all, but we are loving this adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small. Enjoy your day – I love the wallpaper and can’t wait to see more!

These anniversaries are so hard, aren’t they? I lost Mom just 18 months before Dad, so by the time we lost Scout, I could barely function.

      Thank you, Martha.

      Stay safe.

The desk looks great! I spent a little time on pinterest yesterday saving diy miniature tutorials. I have so much to learn before ever attempting any of it.
I hope you get less snow than predicted. Stay safe.

I did not care for last night’s episode of Miss Scarlett either. Of course the woman who wants equal rights is deranged? What? It is taking too long for Miss Scarlett and the Duke to figure out how to work together. The episodes drag…
I watched “Radium Girls” on Saturday and that was so sad and made me so angry at men in charge who care nothing about workers and only about $$$. So many years of greedy men taking advantage of women trying to survive. Riled me up!
The hardware does look great on the mini-desk. Good job.
Stay safe and cozy and be careful shoveling!

Plus, they keep pounding us over the head with sexist male reactions instead of showing us through the situation. It’s always more powerful if they show us rather than constant dialogue or laughs from males. You’re right. The episodes do drag,

I know the story of the Radium girls. I don’t think I could watch it.

I stopped watching Miss Scarlett last night as well. I really wanted to like it.
When she crossed the pristine clean street I was talking to the TV! Anyone who has any historical knowledge knows that it’s not a true representation. It was downhill from there.

I did love her costumes, though even those I questioned the neatness at all times.
I do look at that in All Creatures as well😊 how do they maintain cleanliness while mucking about? I know I’m too literal😖Just my personal inability to stay clean coming through.

I love the hardware on the desk. I am amazed at your ability to work tiny, and am grateful to you and Don for the daily chat.
Thank you, and stay cozy and safe.

      Thanks, Jan.

I did not like the 1st episode of Miss Scarlet, but we turn it on every Sunday eve. Last night, while it was on, I was playing a game of Solitare on my laptop. I looked over at hubs and he had his earphones on and was listening to something on his. So, I guess we just use it as background filler, waiting for All Creatures. Both laptops were down when that began! Soooo good!!

Is your snow still accumulating as the day goes on? I wish we could just get one snowfall with 20-30 inches all at once. Be snowbound for a day or two, and then be done with it. Wishes are sometimes such fun things to ponder!!

How was the apple pie?? Hope the day goes smoothly without too much angst. Take care!!

Brenda, I wish All Creatures was on at eight. I think it would be nice for young children at that time too. We couldn’t get through fifteen minutes of Miss Scarlet.

Yes. The snow has been non-stop. We have at least 9 or 10 inches and it’s supposed to go on all night.

Don is making the apple pie right now.

I do understand about loss. Last year, we lost the father of my son-in-law…my best friend ever lost her husband, also my lifelong friend since elementary…a dear dear friend in the south…my friend’s brother (who lost her husband) who loved me forever and ever…an ex sister in law, an ex brother in law, several distant cousins…that is just a few…one of my dear friends lost six close close friends to Covid in two weeks…it is exhausting…heart breaking…and just so sad that I am still trying to realize my friends are gone…in another state…so I don’t see where they were…just keeps happening…2020 was just a year of loss…2021 is better in many ways except for Covid continuing…we do have hope of vaccine. You are amazing in that you keep going…always finding your niche…that is what I do…I have been isolated almost one year…it hasn’t been easy but is so necessary. I am having fun teaching online hours and hours and hours…reading for Netgalley on Ipad/Kindle…and books daughter drops off outside to me…also rereading Little House on Prairie books…puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles…adult color books…letter writing and cards…all the old fashioned activities I enjoy so much…one of my friends is finally reading Louise Penny-loving her as we all do…take care…prayers…be safe safe safe…you are so dear to us…

From the other side of the world I am sending you a virtual hug, if you will accept it…what a dreadful time you have had. We in Australia are so grateful that both governments and people have taken Covid seriously. Whilst my mum died just over a year ago, I am so grateful if was just before Covid hit and we were all able to be with her and hold her while she died. Precious time.

Claudia — am so sorry re: Scout’s passing — this time of year is also difficult for me as my beloved MyMaw was very sick — many hospitalizations — death finally came Feb 7–horrible time–weather was awful that winter on top of her being sick. have always hated this time in Feb. So, yes, many of us can share your heartache. I have found time does not totally erase the pain, it simply helps us make it bearable. love to you. stay healthy and safe

I liked the first two “Scarlets” but last night — not so good. If you’re not into anything by episode three, it’s not happening! Meanwhile, we were laughing up a storm during “All Creatures!”

The desk is precious — I can see it in the bedroom, just as you say. Love the hardware — it was worth waiting for. And I think the wallpaper will be lovely once you get it done as you want. And with this snow, it could be sooner than you think.

Oh, those anniversaries are hard. Gypsy was 2012 and the day doesn’t arrive without some real looking back and yes, on occasion, a tear or two. Hugs to you.

Love the pulls in the desk…did you make the desk from a kit?

I’ve got two episodes recorded of Miss Scarlet on the DVR. But, after reading all of the comments, including yours, don’t know if I should bother? But then again, I’m kind of curious as to how bad it was.

Last week was the anniversary of my Mom’s passing…I think it really threw me off. Hard to believe it’s been 4 years. I really do miss her. This is a tough time of year for a lot of us, I’m saddened to say.

Settle in and enjoy the snow. Hope the winds won’t be as bad as they predict. I know how much you love wind. Stay safe! ;)

We are seeing a slow decline in our pup. She turns 15 this month and I can’t bear to think of a time without her. We’re doing everything we can to make life wonderful for her! Thank heavens for an internet filled with ideas for senior dogs and their challenges.
