Day Three Hundred Twenty-Four

January 31, 2021 at 10:13 am by Claudia

Well, the total amount of snow predicted for tomorrow and Tuesday has increased to 12 -18 inches.

Yikes. It’s going to be at least a 48 hour event as the system will stall over the coast and the mid to lower Hudson Valley will get the worst of it.

Spoiler alert: That’s us.

So Don is moving cars in preparation, so he can clear the parking area. It may start tonight, it may start tomorrow morning. I’m not real excited about it, but Don is. Since he operates the snow blower, I guess that’s a good thing. In the meantime, we sit tight and wait. I’ve requested that Don make an apple pie tomorrow during the “event.” Hey, at least we don’t have to change our plans…these days, we have none.

C’est fini. Now, of course, I wish I had another one on hand that is just as complicated. I do have some other puzzles, but they are fairly easy. Better than nothing, of course! I have to say I’ve been spoiled by these John Derian puzzles. They’re gorgeous.

I got a little package in the mail yesterday – from England. I ordered this a while back from Minimum World but I didn’t expect them to ship before February 1st because of lockdown. But they did.

This is a kit from Mini Mundus – they make amazing furniture kits. This piano will go in the Beacon Hill. I decided to order it now because it was on sale.

I couldn’t find hardware for the finished desk that I liked from my usual sources, but I did find some at Minimum World. I’ve taken a picture, but the pulls are still in their plastic pouch as I didn’t want to lose them. They’re teeny-tiny.

I really like them, especially the darker patina. There’s a lot of shiny brass fittings out there and I inevitably have to ‘age’ them. These, however, are perfect.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

wow … i hope that forecast is wrong and you get much less snow than predicted! no matter how much snow you get, puzzles (even easier ones) and pie (especially apple, a family favorite) sound good, helpful. glad you have them. and a snowblower.

the dollhouse additions look great (as does that vintage nyc puzzle). and any time you can get one on sale? also great.

we had an afternoon full of drizzle yesterday that turned into ice and snow overnight. enough snow that i hear someone’s snowblower right now. as long as the roads aren’t icy, i can socially-distant visit some family members today without stepping outside (i am very grateful to have an attached garage).

thanks all for listening to me talk about the problems related to my back. i appreciate your kind words, support and prayers and hope and pray for good things for you all.

    happy, safe sunday!

I don’t think the forecast will be wrong, but never say never.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

We are getting dumped on here in Illinois. I did the snowblowing this morning and will have to do it again this afternoon as it is still coming down. (My snowblowing son is out of town.)
This is probably the storm that is heading your way! It is heavy snow with blowing drifts so tell Don to be careful!
Baking pies AND shoveling – he is a dreamboat! :)

Yes, we were told to expect wind and drifts. Sigh

Wow..that’s alot of snow. I hope the forecast is wrong. At least you have books, puzzles, and apple pie to see you through it. I always worry about losing power with storms like that. We finally got a generator because it happens so often where we are.
I’m starting to get dollhouse fever. I’ve started looking at houses and miniatures online.
It’s a slippery slope isn’t it? I haven’t quite justified it yet. I have an expensive yarn habit so…..we’ll see.
Stay warm and safe, enjoy the pie

It is. Thankfully, I no longer have a yarn habit. But my sister does!

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

I love that puzzle. I have to do easier ones. A friend sent me a lovely Susan Branch puzzle for Christmas…just so difficult right now. Hoping the boys can help me when I am in Florida…we had snow…now rain…then snow coming. I get second shot on Feb 8, so I am hoping for good weather. Only one of my friends-in another state has gotten the vaccination…have a good day…prayers and safety for Don outside…take care…

Now, they’re saying 12-20″ for the entire Hudson Valley.

      Stay safe, Linda.

P.S. Am watching my way through the Miss Marple movies yet again…also I chuckle when friends (or bloggers) say they are isolating…”Just went to the grocery…ate out only a couple of times…family all met on Saturday…” LOL

Preparing for the snow coming to Long Island later tonight. Listening to some beautiful music while I pulled out my watercolors and sketch pads. Taking non credit on line courses from Stonybrook University. Zoom has been a lifesaver. I just spoke to two of my four grandchildren and my son. I worry about him. I know that he is under a lot of pressure and we only touch the surface with these zoom “visits”. Stay safe and warm. Looking forward to some of your outdoor photos when the storm passes.

It’s hard to have a deep conversation via Zoom, isn’t it?

      Stay safe Maria.

Oh,I hope they are wrong in their accumulation predictions. We were supposed to get 4-6 and got less than 4, but it is a wet, heavy snow and we have had wind. Supposed to have more on Thurs and then into the deep freeze.

Apple pie (slightly warm) sounds like a great snack on a snowy day! Hope you can stay ahead of the snow a bit, or at least keep up so you don’t have to do all 12+ at one time. Enjoy the remainder of your Sunday. We are looking forward to All Creatures Great and Small this eve. Take care.

You’re lucky – the entire Hudson Valley is going to be hit with 12 – 20 inches. It’s going to be a whopper of a storm.

The heaviest snow will be constant during the day tomorrow with winds and blizzard like conditions, so I doubt that Don will be able to get out ahead of it.

      Stay safe, Chris.

I don’t know if it’s the same storm system, but it just finished here. Went 24 hours; most of it overnight last night. We got 8″ on top of what we already had, so it’s quite the winter wonderland out there. I’m just thankful Brian was home from work today as I hate when he has to drive to and from work in these storms (especially since it’s a 25 mile commute each way), and he also did the majority of the shoveling. It was wet and heavy, too.

    Stay safe and warm!

We’re getting between 12 and 20 inches, so if it’s the same storm system it’s going to intensify by the time it gets here. And it’s going to sit in place for over 24 hours.

We’ll be using the snow blower with the amount in the forecast. Sort of dreading it, but what can I do? It’s coming.

      Stay safe, Melanie.

Blizzard? You got this. Apple pie perfuming the house, the residual warmth of the oven, snowblower and cars appropriately ready and waiting, song and craft and literature at your disposal.

Our snowfall totaled nine inches after three storms. Piles and drifts decorate our yard. I wish I could say I built a snowman…I always wanted to make one a la Calvin and Hobbes. Instead, I contented myself with clear driveways and a cleared dogwalk for the canine necessities. I’m happy to wait a while for the next storms while basking in the afternoon sunshine here in the Sierra and letting my overworked muscles ease up.

Wishing you just enough snow to enjoy.

    Stay safe and warm, Claudia!

I’ve missed our weather/snow forecast today. I’d better check. I went out for a little bit and there was a lot of traffic everywhere. I guess people were stocking up. Usually find snowstorms a wonderful time to be inside, but with the Covid, home all the time isn’t as special. I do remind myself how fortunate we are to have a home and heat. But when I look at the day count at the start of your posts, I can’t believe it. Stay safe and warm!

OH! The Piano! It’s wonderful — so detailed — I’d swear you could play it! What joy when it arrived. And I like the hardware, too.

The puzzle is gorgeous. I really need to order a new one. I might have to get your Nancy Drew one if it’s still available. That was such a good one. This is spectacular. Happy trails! Stay cozy — sounds like you are very prepared for the storm.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
