Day Twenty-Four

April 6, 2020 at 9:59 am by Claudia

Sunny. Warmer. Thank goodness.

We’re hanging in there. Don takes long walks every day. He finds his explorations very satisfying.  I know it’s officially spring, but we are just now really beginning to feel  it. And that’s lovely. Today, I am determined to get out there and I’m going to enlist Don’s help. He loves a project, especially now, so he can do the dumping of leaves on a tarp, carting it up to the pile stuff.

More egg cups for you:

The gang from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, my very first egg cup, given to me by my godparents – made for Fanny Farmer, the white bunny with pink ears that always reminds me of Scout, a bunny peeking around the corner of his egg cup house, blue and white ironstone (quite heavy!), a little girl in a bunny costume, a wooden sailor, a rooster egg cup from Fanny Farmer (made by McCoy) and a lady.

Gosh, I love seeing all of these. It’s always satisfying to reacquaint myself with my friends.

Don came back from his walk yesterday with these purple posies held tightly in his hands.

He presented them to me just like a little boy bringing a bouquet to his teacher. Need I say he was adorable?

I’m reading This Rough Magic, which may well be my favorite of the Mary Stewarts. I’m so enjoying it. Did you hear the Queen’s speech yesterday? It was marvelous – just what we need to hear – sadly, just what we won’t hear from our so-called leader.

Stay strong, my friends. Stay safe. Stay home.

Happy Monday.

Hi Claudia, I look forward each day to reading your blog. It give me a feeling of being out in the world without leaving home. Your sharing about the weather, your garden, food supplies , and books gives a feeling of normalcy and often inspiration that we all need right now. Thanks so much for all you share.

I was most impressed by the Queen’s speech and thought the same thing about our leader. The Queen has lived through so many eras and reigned through so many political changes and difficult times but always presents such a solid, comforting front. She really is quite an amazing woman! Looking for Spring here in Illinois also – I have daffodils blooming already so that is a treat! Stay safe, Claudia and Don!

The Queen’s speech was so lovely. It was so comforting, I thought. Brief, and it actually sounded like she meant each word she said. Unlike “someone” who uses his finger to follow along on his paper (much like a 2nd grader, not to insult 2nd graders), and uses his monotone droning wing-song voice to deliver whatever he is trying to say. And we ALL believe he means what he reads, right? HA!!!!! I would like to know how much money he and his family have invested in the drugs he is shouting about daily. Just an embarrassment to our entire country.

Your Gov is showing pictures of all of the people in NYC who are strolling out and about in pretty large crowds. It really is sad to see when we know what health care providers are doing on a daily basis, and how many people are dying. He is asking for more local endorsement throughout the state with higher fines for violating social distancing. Good for him!!

Stay safe, everyone, and seriously STAY HOME. We all want to see Claudia’s post tomorrow for Day 25, and beyond.

She’s in her nineties and she sounds more together – far more together – than Trump has ever sounded.

What the hell is with those people out strolling around? They should be arrested. I’ve been saying that for about a week now. If they can’t follow the rules, arrest the self-absorbed fools!

      Stay safe, Chris.

Loved the Queen’s speech. I have had to refrain from reading some of the blogs who are praising certain leaders; I have had to refrain from texting some friends doing the same. I am at a loss with no words…to explain this opinion of others. Maybe I am living-and have been living-in a different atmosphere…alas…love your cups…so sweet…

Isn’t the Queen amazing. Speaking directly to ‘ her people’ ( other than on Christmas Day) is very rare- her live speech after Diana’s death probably saved the Monarchy.

And she is right. We will meet again- and we are doing that right here, right now, thanks to Claudia- another amazing woman

Enjoying looking through your egg cup collection, Claudia! I felt quite moved by the Queen’s speech to the nation last night, it seemed heartfelt and encouraging. She writes her own speech which is broadcast every Christmas Day and I expect she contributed a lot to this one.

I can officially leave the house now but I feel I have been cocooned for the past fortnight. I was a bit shocked to get a call from work asking how I was and would I be willing to work from home as tomorrow I would be back in work if things were normal. It’s as if mentally I feel as though I am on annual leave! Obviously I can’t say no, so because my employer is local government, I might have to phone vulnerable members of the community just to check on how they and if they need any help arranging or just a chat about how they’re feeling.

    Happy Monday

These might be my favorites, Claudia. I adore the series of Snow White and the Dwarfs. Those are especially cute. I was following you when you got the last one in the series — what a find. They’re all just darling, even the ones that aren’t “characters.”

I think maybe you married Snow White’s prince! I love that he brought you the flowers!

Don’t work too hard in the yard. Just heard our governor suspended the primary tomorrow by executive order. That’s a bold move against the republicans…hope it stands! ;)

And then the Supreme Court in Washington did the same thing. I am so despondent over this. Does NO ONE care about the people they are elected to represent and stand up for? How has EVERYTHING in this country become Republicans vs Democrats?? Do they even think about anything or anyone or just their party affiliation with no regard for another single thing??

what pretty flowers don brought you! :)

love the egg cups tour. thanks for sharing them and everything else … it’s a definite bright spot in my day to stop in, hear from you and everyone else, know you’re doing alright and have a little chat and connection. thank you all!

will try to find the queen’s speech online. or maybe not … i might cry when comparing what sounds like a calm and comforting speech to what we get here.

and here in iowa …? still no “shelter in place” order. ):( our governor continues to insist there’s “no significant difference” between such an order and the “incremental steps we can dial up or down based on the data” that she’s ordered … but! only today (april 06!!!) did she order the following businesses/places to close:
    social and fraternal clubs, lodges
    bingo halls
    bowling alleys
    pool halls
    arcades
    amusement parks
    libraries
    museums
    zoos
    skating rinks
    parks
    indoor and outdoor playgrounds
    children’s play centers
    tobacco/vaping shops
    racetracks
    toy stores
    gaming stores
    music/instrument shops
    movie stores
    campgrounds
    adult entertainment stores and
    malls.

    ugh. sorry, america. :(

hope you all are staying safe and well.

last friday the governor was given two letters from the state medical board and the state association of doctors, signed unanimously by more than 6,800 doctors, along with a petition signed by more than 2,000 other health care workers, all asking her to give a “shelter in place” order. no order came. if those numbers don’t sway her, what about the growing number of people who are sick, have died or will as a result of this awful virus?!?

i am grateful that i don’t have to make such a decision, but what is she waiting for? ):(

to answer your question, i don’t know.

it is ridiculous and it is shameful.

        stay safe, too!

I wonder how she will live with her smiling face when people are dying in a few weeks. It is everywhere. Is Iowa a special place with superpower shields up along the borders? She is as out of touch as the orange idiot is. I am sorry that is who is supposed to be protecting the people in your state, kathy, because, obviously, she has little caring in what she has (not) done thus far. Another Republican standing by her man. Unreal.

            hej, chris k in wisconsin.

i’ve been watching our governor’s press conferences and when asked about a possible “shelter in place” order, she does smile. ugh.

on the news just now was a clip of dr. fauci saying he talked with the governors of nebraska and iowa today and views their mitigation efforts as “functionally like” a “shelter in place” order. so now she will smile even more.

i’m no expert, but to me there are big differences. compared to what she’s slowly ordered, a “shelter in place” order would close many more places, including where i work. that alone would reduce risks to the elderly clients and staff and (most important to me) my family (though i see them from a distance, talking on the phone while seeing them through a window) … as well as many other people in similar and different settings. it could save lives because it would be a requirement that we stay home, not just a recommendation. on a much more trivial note, our state wouldn’t look so bad. and our governor might save her job at the next election.

            ugh.

            praying …

hope you and your family are well and happy.

What a romantic you have. I remember roaming in the bush and always bringing home a fistful of bush flowers when I returned home each day. My mother loved them and they would always go into a little glass of water. Seeing your posy has brought back those memories. I also adore violets as a flower, as well as pansies and lavender.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
