Day Twenty-Two

April 4, 2020 at 10:00 am by Claudia

Whoo hoo! I had signed into the blog and was waiting for the security check (I do this every time I sign in) so I thought I’d give a try at the old grocery delivery. I thought it might be fruitless as nothing shows as available during the day, but my goodness, there were a few openings! We will get another delivery this Tuesday – all the things we forgot the first time!

The sun is shining and I am once again amazed by my luck. A good start to this Saturday.

I thought that this Fiesta compote would be the perfect home for my fabric easter eggs. The kitchen suddenly looks very Spring-y, doesn’t it?

I made these about 11 years ago when I was away from home, working in San Diego. I used fat quarters from my favorite local quilt shop – Rosie’s – and with a Featherweight borrowed from my friend Ingrid, sewed them up. I used a pattern I found online. I have a lot of memories of that spring when I was far away from my husband and my dogs. I had big chunks of free time and that sewing machine was a godsend. I really wanted my own Featherweight and that was the perfect opportunity to test one out. I made a quilt top, as well. Eventually, I did get my own Featherweight. Still love it, though I have to fix the tension!

I finished Wildfire at Midnight  this morning. One of my friends on IG told me that Stewart’s novels have recently been reissued – a British publisher I believe – so I’m going to get them all. I had such a good time rereading this gem. Next up: my copy of This Rough Magic. Stewart frequently used literary references and This Rough Magic  is full of Shakespearean references, specifically, The Tempest. I have since worked with that text and know it well, so this time will be much different than when I was a young teenager.

I haven’t seen any activity from our pair of nuthatches, so I assume the nest has been finished and is either occupied or about to be occupied. How lovely it is to hear birdsong every morning. And what a difference it makes in my waking up process. Even in the fog of waiting for my coffee to brew, I hear those birds and am happy.

Hope you’re all well.

Happy Saturday.

So glad to hear about Stewart’s novels being reissued. I read them many years ago and loved them all . I will be looking for the new ones. So glad you were able to find a delivery time.

I guess they’ve been reissued over the course of the past decade – they’re in paperback with lovely artwork on the covers. Take care, Cristina!

glad your day is starting well.

and that mary stewart’s books are being re-issued so you can enjoy them again.

lovely work on the eggs! they look great on your new island with the forsythia. what did you use to fill them? and good luck with the tension on your sewing machine.

glad you were able to get a time for grocery delivery. hope you get everything you need and want.

didn’t comment yesterday (long day at work plus some freezing rain left me exhausted) so i’ll say here that don’s idea to put that darling red trailer in the tree was clever and it looks great!

hope you have a peaceful weekend.

i am taking it as easy as possible. for one thing, it’s cold (about 30 degrees). :o need to deliver things for two households, then come back home to do a bit of cleaning. hope to do some puttering and cross-stitching. :)

    be safe and well, everyone!

Years ago I read all of Frances Parkerson Keyes’ books. Have you read any of her work? I loved them. Your eggs and forsythia really do bring Spring into your house.

The Fiesta bowl with the fabric eggs is just lovely!! Such a nice touch of spring. We have a pretty and sunny day here today. Supposed to be in the low 50’s today and more sun and upper 50’s tomorrow. That really helps everyone’s spirits, I think.

Glad you found a spot for delivery, it is kind of a crap shoot. We have another week at least before we need to begin that fun game again. Hope everyone has a peaceful Saturday. Stay safe and stay home!!

It’s definitely a crap shoot, Chris. I’ll go for days seeing all the slots taken, then suddenly, 3 or 4 open slots will be there. Go figure! Stay safe.

Oh…how lovely! Those eggs, the forsythia, the Fiesta bowl…perfection. It’s sunny out…but still cool. Not sure if we’ll get to the predicted 50, but with the sun shining…it just looks warmer.

Nothing much on our agenda today…a bit of cleaning, straightening. When you have 3 adults living here full time, it doesn’t take but a minute for some disarray. Think I’ll save the yard work til tomorrow when it’s warmer. Stay safe….that seems to be the phrase of the day! ;)

Those eggs are glorious and perfect in your Fiesta bowl. The color just screams spring! And with the forsythia — what a wonderful bit of spring you’ve created on your island.

So glad you can get another grocery delivery and soon. We’re exploring options on that as I’m getting more worried about Rick going to the store.

    Happy Weekend!

Yes, do explore that. Rick shouldn’t be going to the store – or at least, rarely.

Great luck is getting a delivery spot! I wish I had a service like that near me. The closest store delivers within 5 miles. I am 6 1/2 miles away.
I love the eggs. Very bright and cheery.
I have 2 birds that come to the windows and peer in at me and the cat. I am sure their intent is to drive the cat right up the wall! But, I enjoy seeing them. I got a report from a neighbor the other evening…5 wolves were seen just down the road from me. I got my camera ready, but they didn’t show up here.
    Sunshine and blue skies today!

Oh darn it! You just missed the cut-off. They should expand their delivery area, given this pandemic.

Those birds do love to tease cats! I hope you get to see the wolves sometime soon, Trudy. That would be wonderful. Stay safe!

I love Fiesta ware. Mine is very recent as I have just discovered it. I knew it existed before but never realized how “happy” it was until about a year ago as I was seeding around in Pinterest and came across tables set with it. Now I have given starter sets to 2 of my adult kids and have filled in my very lovely local potter – pottery dishes with odds and ends. It really makes me happy. Love the Easter eggs by the way!

I had a large collection of vintage Fiesta that I sold when we were in San Diego. I kept some pieces, thankfully, but I wish I still had it. I had a compote just like this one that I sold, and when I showed a picture of it in my old Boston apartment, one of my readers said she had the same one and would sell it to me. Huzzah!

How neat that you gave some to your kids! Thank you, Jane. Stay safe.

Claudia- I love nature sounds and bird songs as well. During these stressful times, I have been pulling up YouTube nature sounds! They have ones with or without music. I found one yesterday that is just birds with the video of the birds. It was relaxing and beautiful! Ocean waves, running streams, waterfalls, etc.! It helps me!

    Love your Springy eggs!

    Everybody, take care of yourself,
    Melanie

Melanie, my daughter has done the same thing with the birds without the music. She loves the birdsong as she works from home. The funny thing is the pictures she has sent me of her 2 cats who sit engrossed in front of the TV just watching for long periods of time. Every once in a while they get up on their back paws and swat at the birds. Too funny!! I guess they like some new entertainment, too!!

Claudia, I also like your fabric Easter eggs! I’ve always wanted a Featherweight, but ended up with a vintage Singer 201-2, manufactured in 1950. It’s similar to a Featherweight and sews as well but isn’t portable, which is fine with me, as I don’t take classes anyway.

After a few gloriously warm-ish days with blue skies, it’s a rainy weekend and into the week. I may try to get in a walk in between downpours.

Oh, the quiche was made last night with the $12 eggs…it was the best quiche I’ve ever eaten. Omelettes for lunch today.

Just love the Easter eggs – you are a girl after my own heart. They are so beautiful. So much time at the moment means I can sew. I can amuse myself anywhere with some sewing or knitting.

At the moment I am going through my patchwork material to find suitable designs for masks for myself. Am finishing off my fourth one. I wore the first one on Friday and the fit was perfect when I did the grocery shop. Have to find a suitable design for some masks for my husband.

By the way it was the fridge breaking the electrical circuit – did we have a disrupted day working out what we were going to do to sort out the problem.

Love the yellow bowl too. It is so pretty and matches the flowers on your bench.

I should make us some masks. But I have no elastic. I’ve seen a design using a kerchief and hair elastic bands and I have those.

I remember those eggs! You must have posted about them and how to make them a few years ago because I also remember my futile attempts to create them even tho I really tried. They are so charming! And I miss dying eggs from my youth (dyeing?). Freudian. Congrats on the delivery slot! My husband is still going to the store and is now asking me to make him a mask which I’m happy to try but we have no elastic and he wears over the ear hearing aids so I’ve no idea how the loops would work. He tried a bandana yesterday and looked like an old time bank robber. I say why not just start wearing hijabs? With a few pins or bobby pins, you don’t even have to do your hair!! Stay safe and sane and play music. Lots of folks are posting videos as you know. Maybe you could ask Don to play Blackbird for us? or Let it Be? and start a PayPal account or something so he doesn’t have to perform for free. Kind of a virtual busking. I have so many ideas for other people!! It’s my special gift. Sending virtual hugs.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
