My favorite discovery yesterday: this odd little plant. It’s here and there throughout the property, but this group is right at the top of the big garden bed. I suppose it’s been here in the past – just never noticed it before.
I looked at a site that listed New York state wildflowers and couldn’t find it. So I put the photo on IG stories and asked if anyone knew what it was. Yep. Someone knew. She said it was wild garlic. When I googled it, I found out it’s also called hairy allium, which makes sense given the green tendrils that most intrigued me. Garden suppliers sell the bulbs.
I don’t know how they sprung up here, but I really am fond of them, so I’m glad they’re here.
I love discovering new-to-me plants on the property.
It’s going to be a very hot few days – today through Monday. Don and I had coffee in the Secret Garden this morning and I could already feel the humidity in the air at 8 am.
I started a new painting yesterday and boy, was it frustrating! It was one of those days when nothing goes quite right and I had to paint over the whole thing because I made it too wide. I made myself stick with it and I eventually got the shape nearly right. I need to tweak it a bit today and then I can add all of the details.
I’m going on too little sleep, so I’m going to keep this short. I have to grab some time at the easel before it gets too hot!
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen wild garlic/hairy allium before. Does it smell garlicy? Can you use it like chives?
In granddaughter news…the send out covid test was negative. Still waiting on the strep culture. I want to believe she doesn’t have covid but not sure I completely trust these tests. I’m pretty convinced this is some nasty virus, probably not strep.
This morning my daughter says she is complaining more about a stomach ache than her headache so that’s different. Maybe whatever this is is working it’s way out of her system. Thank you again to all for the prayers and good thoughts.
This is a wonderful little community you have created here Claudia.

Glad to hear your granddaughter is somewhat better and hope she fully recovers soon, Marilyn.

It doesn’t smell like garlic. I wouldn’t use it as it’s too pretty and I like seeing it grow.
Your poor granddaughter! Praying you get an answer soon, better yet, that it is beginning to wind down.
Stay safe, Marilyn.

Hi Claudia !
I’m anything but in the google advertising industry and I try to stay away from social networks as much as possible, but in case of your search of the spider-garlic you have to try Google lens. It’s a Smartphone App over Google-Play and ingenious for recognizing things e.g. plants, animals etc in your area (amongst other things). It works pretty well, as far as I can see.
But you probably already know all of this and I was cheeky again?
Have a wonderful day!
Helga
Claudia says
I don’t have or use Google Play, unfortunately! It sounds great!
You’re not cheeky! You’re very helpful, Helga.

What a cool find on your property. Google says itβs edible. But, until I did more research, Iβm not sure I would eat it. It sure is unusual looking.
Stay cool today! ;)
Claudia says
I wouldn’t eat it, though. It’s too pretty!
Stay safe, Donna.

Hi Claudia, by some strange coincidence my village’s name is derived from the Anglo Saxon for ‘Valley of the Wild Garlic’! There’s lots of it in woodland areas but it’s a white flowering variety.
It’s edible and does smell of garlic but I’ve never picked it.
Happy Saturday

Very interesting, Dee Dee! We also have wild onions and chives, but I’m used to seeing them.

members of my family and i took a long ride to a lake today and along the way, i told them what they already know … that seeing something for the first time, like those specific curvy, hilly roads and beautiful lake (all new to me) and especially seeing it with them, makes me very happy.
and now i’m seeing something new to my eyes here … what an unusual and pretty discovery you made. glad you have them (those plants and discoveries)!
and your oil painting is such a discovery, too … hooray!
good luck with the high heat and humidity. after days in the 90s and a high of 102, we were in the 80s today and have a good chance for thunderstorms twice tomorrow! hopefully some of our “cooler” weather makes it to you.
hope you have a good night, stay cool and keep painting!

Cooler weather will arrive on Tuesday, so we have two more days to get through. Grateful for air conditioning!
Stay safe, Kathy!

That’s a new bloom on me, too! It sounds like a pleasant day apart from artist frustration. I’m trying to learn how to better mix greens. Leslie Fehling had a free download on her studio site on mixing greens which I downloaded and boy, I got some interesting colors, some of which were nothing close to green! Happy painting today!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Jeanie. The painting process got better yesterday, though I find myself having to adjust things on the way. It’s to be expected and I’m getting used to it. I have a not-so-secret perfectionist within me.
Stay safe!
