Dollhouse: More Work On The Potting Shed

April 9, 2014 at 8:22 am by Claudia

The Potting Shed at Hummingbird Cottage has a few new additions, with more on the way.

dhpottingroom1

We have some pots and a watering can and potting soil and…a potting bench that I made yesterday.

dhpottingroom3

It’s made from two shutters I had in my dollhouse stash and some spindles that I cut down to the size I wanted.

I could have made it taller, but I didn’t want everything to be the same height. Besides, if the owner is at all like me, half the time she’s potting things on the fly; here, there and everywhere.

dhpottingroom4

Oh. My. Goodness. Potting soil. Could those bags be any cuter?

There’s much I plan to do with the shed and the roof. I have lots of ideas! But the details will have remain a secret for now. I will tell you that it’s going to be a rooftop retreat for the owner, a place where she can grow plants and vegetables and sit in the sun.

I wonder if she appreciates all that I’m doing for her?

This dollhouse is a work in progress, of course, but I think I might do a series of posts in the near future that show its journey so far. Before and After. What do you think?

And of course, next week I will do my annual Easter/egg cup round-up. I do it a bit differently every year. I’ll do my best to tell you a little a bit about each egg cup – where I got it, what I know about it, that kind of thing.

The sun is shining, it’s going to be in the sixties and I’m going to do some work outside today! Hurrah!

Did I tell you how happy I am to have my husband home?

Happy Wednesday.

Oh, my! Those precious little potting soil bags… too cute! The dollhouse series would be wonderful, and can’t wait to learn more about the egg cups. Being able to work happily out in the yard…. up to about 3-5 weeks ago we didn’t think this day would ever come, did we?
I hope you truly enjoy each and every single moment.

I almost don’t know what to do with myself – not used to fresh air and physical labor, Chris – it tires me out rather quickly!

You should see our front yard…we’ve got 9 evergreens with severe winter burn…it is so pathetic. They were perfectly healthy before this horrible winter.

The potting shed room is so cute, imagine tiny little bags of potting soil. Who knew? I know you and Scout are glad to have her dad back and Don is glad to be back with his girls. Have fun just being togehter with those you love Claudia. I am still chuckling about the underpants in the sweatshirt story. Years ago my cousin and I went wedding dress shopping with my sister who unbeknownst to us had on a pair of thong underwear. She took her blouse off to try on a dress but just pulled her slacks down. When my cousin went to pull the dress down over my sisters rear end she came face to face with the back part of the thong and screamed OMG!. We all laughed so hard we were in tears. The dressing room was tiny, just big enough for the three of us to stand in. My cousin kept telling my sister and I to hush but we were laughing so hard we could hardly breathe. There’s no telling what the sales clerk thought.

Love the thong story, Janie! That makes me laugh. My sister and I used to get laughing so hard when we were shopping that we would literally – and I mean literally – fall to the floor!

Love the potting shed and would love to see the ‘Before & After’ of house. She is one lucky homeowner to have you as her decorator / carpenter / painter / financer of everything in the house! I’m sure she appreciates. Loved the pictures of Don & Scout yesterday! Welcome home, Don!

It’s as if the homeowner is on one of those HGTV decorating shows where a decorator and contractor do over the whole house!

I love all the dollhouse rooms, but I think the potting room is my favorite of all. It makes me think of Myrna Loy in “Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House” – with her little impromptu “flower room.’ And no, there’s not much anywhere than could be cuter than those bitty terra cotta pots, and Miracle-Gro bags.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
