Dove Cottage at Christmas

December 16, 2022 at 8:57 am by Claudia

We’ve been getting snow/rain/sleet/snow/rain/sleet and it’s supposed to last until tomorrow. It’s messy and rather ugly out there, not to mention dangerous. This is not the pretty snow that we had recently. Next week, hopefully, will be just snow. Don is disappointed that it’s raining and not snowing. They’re calling this a nor’easter. I’m calling it a pain in the tush.

A quick little tour of Dove Cottage at Christmas:

The owner had to move the furniture around to accommodate the tree.

As you know, I make these trees, starting with a cheap bottlebrush tree as the base. I glue pieces of lycopodium, which is a preserved pine, to the base. It’s very time consuming and a mess, as I get glue all over my hands. But much better in the end than a bottlebrush tree. I try to be as realistic as possible with my miniatures so that kind of tree wouldn’t work. As a small decoration, yes. You can see that I have a couple of small tabletop bottlebrush trees in the room, just like I have here at my life-sized cottage.

Sorry for the glare on the wallpaper. Light quality is very tricky in the winter. There’s a small bottlebrush tree on the island, too, but it’s hard to see here.

And on the front porch – a wreath on the door.

Tomorrow, we’ll visit the Lake Cottage.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

dove cottage is beautiful and especially so decorated for Christmas. great work overall and on making the tree, too!

hope you and don are stocked up on food, etc. … but not on ice. hopefully you get only snow from this point on.

we received over an inch of rain on wednesday (loved it), then maybe three-plus inches of snow yesterday. also lots of wind and a big drop in the temperatures … winter.

will finish knitting my first dishcloth today. might be the first of many as i’ve enjoyed it. the pattern has sets of rows and each row is different so i have to focus (and sometimes count stitches out loud) … i seriously hope that helps lengthen my attention span.

hope you, don and everyone else here have a very nice day, no matter the weather. stay safe, too.

    kathy

Dove Cottage is lovely at Christmas 🎄. Hope Don get’s his wish for snow. It rained here all day yesterday but thankfully did not freeze. We’re staying in today and focusing on housework and Christmas baking. Enjoy your day. Hugs, Elaine

What a lovely cozy cottage. It’s a wonder the things you adapt, that become a miniature…like your tree. Talent.

Hope you get your snow…it’s more beautiful than rain, and safer than sleet. Enjoy your day! ;)

Mostly rain today. Very messy and slippery. Should be done by the early morning hours.

      Thanks, Donnamae.

      Stay safe.

When I see these rooms, I always see myself in one of the chairs tucked up on the sofa, it smells like cinnamon and apples and old leather and I Feel very toasty and content. You make your houses, small and large, so inviting

Claudia……you are an amazing miniaturerist. Every little detail…..perfection. I have to go back into some of your earlier blog posts to see how this all started for you. There is something magical about all of this….you have a good eye for detail and proportions not to mention decorative arts. I could easily picture moving in to the cottage…..can you shrink me to fit? Do you imagine the occupants for your minimansions? Are the rooms ever”finished” or do you repurpose things from one room to another…? So many questions….but if I could make a suggestion. You have so much going on in your life and yet everything seems to flow in such a calm and controlled way. How about a picture tour of each room and pointing out detail. (In your spare time). I keep staring at the bookcase and the tree and the upholstery and all of it is so charming. There must be a story to go along with it. Again….hats off to you. Love …all of it.

I have all those details for my houses up in the navigation bar under “dollhouses/minis” You’ll find lots of information there, lots of photos and each house has a final post where I talk about everything in each room and identify where I found it.
      Already done!

      Thanks so much, Maria.

      Stay safe.

Calling this “Dollhouse Heaven For The Holidays”; if you could see me swooning after gazing at these wondrous photos of your miniatures. Claudia, you’ve done an ultra-fab job with these houses!

I’m so glad you are sharing the doll houses at Christmas. They’re lovely. (The furniture rearrangement works. I can see why you had to!)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
