It’s time to add up our deductions and send them off to our tax preparer. We always file an extension and I can put the whole thing out of my mind until…da, da, DUM…August. And now we’re here. So that’s what I’ll be doing this afternoon and tomorrow. Of course the amount of deductions we as performing artists can take has shrunk to next to nothing, but New York State still allows them. So we still have to do the same amount of calculating.
Sigh.
A little bit lobelia has popped up in my geranium pot. There’s a big pot of lobelia nearby and it self-seeded here in the geraniums. I love those little garden surprises.
My yellow garden spider is still here.
I’ve never seen one stay in the same place for so long.
We had another one hanging on the siding next to our kitchen door, but it was particularly windy that day and the spider was constantly buffeted by the winds, so it moved on. Where, I don’t know.
So today, it’s deductions and other chores. We’re headed over to Rick and Doug’s for dinner, as three of our former students will be in town. Can’t wait to see them! They were members of the last class that I taught at The Old Globe/USD. Jim Parsons was one of their classmates. It will be fun.
As for Las Vegas, I plan to be indoors most of the time I’m there. I’ve never had the least desire to visit but my hand has been forced. Since I’ll be working much of the time, it should be fine.
Happy Thursday.

I’ve been to Las Vegas a few times. The strip is a crowded place of excess but the lights, huge fountains, lobby displays, and some shows are fun to see. Cirque de Soleil Beatles’ Love and Phantom of the Opera were fantastic. However, I prefer the areas away from the city: Red Rock Canyon and Lake Mead. I don’t think I’ll ever visit again though. My husband liked it; he loved spectacle but my girls and I prefer Europe…

I have no interest in seeing anything, and my evenings will be filled up with watching Anastasia. Thanks, Wendy.

Happy T-Day. Doing similar tax things and trying to stay cool. Your evening reward sounds much more fun than mine. XO

Yes, but like all of these things, I’d rather stay home!

Hi Claudia, My husband and I were married in Vegas at the Little White Wedding Chapel. We were married through the drive up window! So much fun. Second marriage for both of us and we wanted to do something different. Thanks again for your lovely blog. xo

How lovely! Good for you, April!

may the calculating go quickly/well and the numbers be in your favor!
and may the heat be down when you are in las vegas!
i know their webs can be big and easier to spot, but still i am kind of marveling that you tracked down that spider (and wanted to) … haha!

We already know the numbers aren’t in our favor, remember? We’ve already made a sizeable payment. Artists, performing artists, and people like me took a huge hit.
Thanks, Kathy.

Congrats on your upcoming jobs, you two! Condolences on the tax work, though—nobody likes that job! We have both spent the day being beaten up by the dentist, so, even though we have company coming tomorrow, we will be doing nothing for the rest of today. Yuk!
Claudia says
Oh, that’s never fun! Take it easy, both of you!

Ugh on your taxes and figuring out deductions and such. A royal pain! Vegas is one place I’ve never had a desire to visit either. Since you’ll be working, it’ll be fine. Have fun at your friend’s dinner tonight!
Claudia says
Thank you, Melanie!

Who’d a thunk it – there are a number of independent booksellers in Las Vegas – may be worth a look-see.

I’ll check it out, though I won’t have all that much time. Thanks, Anne!

I wonder if that big yellow spider hangs around because it senses no pesticides etc around your place? Of course, I guess if it was windy, it would move on like the other one did, pesticides or not. I just wonder whether animals know there are poisons & pesticides around a particular habitat? I’m inclined to think they do, but who knows? I always use natural substances to repel them when I need do – and in my last home, I had jillions of spiders but NOTHING else [because the spiders ATE everyone else]. So I’m a little partial to our good friend, the spider – and although they’re evidently not fond of peppermint or orange, I never really tried to get rid of my spiders. I did, however, have to vacuum up a lot of the “remnants” of their meals every week [in corners and most often, under my floor length curtains on the carpet]. I guess they found it safe to trap their dinners & chow down there. LOL. Oh well. Enjoy your dinner with the guys and your former students! Peace.

I wonder, too! I love spiders and this particular one seems to be happy where he is. When he does leave, I’ll miss him. Thanks, Janet.
