Dreams and Drought

July 30, 2022 at 8:44 am by Claudia

Last night, I had one of those dreams where I’m walking down endless corridors looking for someone. Don and I were both working on shows that were on tour, and it was a big holiday, Thanksgiving or Christmas. We happened to be in the same city so I visited his tour’s holiday celebration where there was lots of turkey and trimmings and food and desserts. I remember talking to many people along the way and then Don appeared and acknowledged my presence. Then he disappeared and I couldn’t find him and I was wondering why he didn’t stay with me. Then he morphed into my brother.

I normally don’t remember dreams, but this was right before I woke up. It was unsettling on many levels, but especially with the appearance of my brother, who will be gone 31 years on September 4th.

I didn’t have a chance to speak to him. It wasn’t one of the rare dreams I’ve had in which I’m dancing with him and incredibly happy that he’s there. He just appeared and disappeared.

Anyway, it stuck with me and the morning, so far, has been a bit off.

It’s unbelievably hot and humid out there and I’m worried about drought. Once again, we were supposed to have rain yesterday and overnight and as I clocked the radar during the day, it kept changing. Sure enough, the rain occurred to the south and north of us.

But not here in our own little microclimate.

And I can see no rain on the horizon for the next week. I water as much as I can during the day, but I noticed that some plants in the big garden bed have died back because of the heat. I also see that next Friday and Saturday are supposed to hit 99 degrees. This is insane.

Imogen taking the little ones for a walk.

This gives you a good sense of the difference in sizes for Blythe and the two different versions of this BJD doll by eatzongzi.

I’m back to using my big girl camera when I can. It’s so easy to rely on the iPhone, which is quite good and handy, but the fact remains that my stand-alone camera is much better.

Both photos on this post were taken with the big girl camera.

I think Don is off to the Farmers Market today, but I’m not sure yet.

Meredith is still feeling miserable. She said she can’t imagine how bad it would be if she was unvaccinated.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

What a disconcerting dream. I don’t remember mine well but on occasion remember enough snippets to feel, as you said, a little off. I wish I could send you some of our Michigan weather. We might get into the 80s today. Might. No guarantee. It’s been in the 50s at night and we’ve had some rain. I’m not sure what’s going on with the garden at home — it’s probably horrible.

Your girls are looking cute together! I hope all goes well at the market.

sounds like a bittersweet dream. i’ve had dreams i would describe that way and found them a bit unsettling, too. i hope you get more dreams of talking and dancing with those you love and miss.

also that meredith feels and gets better soon and that little z is already 100% better and stays that way.

and that don has great business, shade and a breeze if he goes to the farmers’ market.
your mentioning don’s photo project and your own use of a different camera popped a wish into my head … of you two collaborating on a book of your photos (no pressure)!

cute photo set-up. it does help show the difference between blythes and bjds. and I like zoe’s outfit.

hope you get some rain and cooler weather soon. we very much need rain, but at least had some clouds for shade and temperatures “only” in the high 80s, not 90 – 100 … though the state fair starts in a couple weeks and the weather is usually oppressive then … but, as the saying goes, high heat and humidity help the corn grow.

best i get going on some things around here because they sure are needing to be done.

hope you all have a safe and fun day!

    kathy

Unfortunately, no rain on the immediate – or even 5 day – horizon.

      Stay safe, Kathy!

Prayers…we are all tired of Covid…I am always positive in my newspaper column…I wrote for the state paper on my home state for yeas starting in 1999….but with my picture and too much info…welll…I stopped..have written for tiny little hometown paper off and on since about 2005 or before…finally I wrote thanking those who are not vaccinated and masking…just could not resist the sarcastic remark…my friends texted me and said they were surprised as I don’t do opinions in the paper…they thanked me…I don’t have copies of the columns after 2007…I used about 100 for a grad school project…I email and send just like letters…I am tired of people not vaccinating…I am tired of people co planning about prices when people are dying…sorry had to vent

dear Claudia/Don — sorry re: no rain for you — here in Ky, some places have had TOO much rain in the past 4 days with major flooding, death, unbelieveable destruction — news stations are overwhelmed with stories from the areas — some really sad while others show concern/kindness for victims/families which give hope for locating the missing, which are still many. Rescuers are overcome. Gov says it will be many days b/f this process of search/rescue will be over. Then, of course, the rebuilding of structures and lives will begin. hope your area will receive rain soon. BTW, nosy me was wondering if you have well water or ‘city’?? stay safe

Linda – I’ve seen on the news here in England about the terrible flooding and loss of life in Kentucky. Hope that you and your family stay safe.

I am horrified by the news from KY, Linda. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. Thinking of everyone in your state.

      We have well water.

      Stay safe, Linda.

I hope that Meredith feels better soon. And in my book, there is nothing so strange as dreams are. I can’t imagine having them at all. Think about it? How crazy is it to be unconscious and live a life. Other animals do it too. Dogs dream. But to dream is weird. period. I am surprised that we all don’t need straight jackets a few times every month. I could write a book about my weird dreams. My advice, just move on. LOL.

I always move on. Usually I don’t remember them at all, but sometimes, as it was yesterday, it stays with me for a while.

      Stay safe, Tana.

Poor Meredith! And poor you with a bad dream! No way to have a day, that’s for sure. It’s when the Blythes give you comfort. Gosh do I love little Wren.

Claudia, I’m just curious, but with Meredith trying hard to navigate this darned virus, what are the effects giving her the hardest time, if you’re able to share? Is it a cough? What my cousin’s still going thru, since being infected with Covid in April, are lingering abdominal discomforts. It seems to vary; my cousin in Indiana is getting along okay, but the breathing issues still plague her from last December’s bout with the virus. My SIL, infected with Covid in January, will feel the brain fog has finally lifted, but then it comes back. My friend’s husband, recently stricken after traveling out of the country, claims he is JUST FINE and doesn’t want to talk about it, so we all know not to bring up Covid in his presence.

I’m not entirely sure, but she’s congested and coughing. She has no energy. Her head feels sort of inflated because of the congestion. She has to lie down a lot and naps during the day.

      Stay safe, Vicki.

Bless her heart, and she’s a mom; is so tough to be the sick one when you have young’uns needing care and attention simultaneously. I can only remember one time when my mom was really sick with what I guess was probably a wicked flu, and we kids just didn’t know what to do with ourselves because Ma was NEVER sick (like sick, in bed). It’s when we learned that Dad actually knew how to cook; he’d just never had to do it before!

Dreams can feel very real and often unsettling but I try to remind myself that it’s just your brain’s way of sorting out your thoughts, feelings and new information received.
You’re bound to be feeling anxious about your sister to whom you are close but instead of dreaming of her, you might be dreaming about others who you also care about – Don and your brother.

Another thing I can guarantee with a dream is that there’s always a tiny snippet of something said or seen during the previous 24 hours. Maybe something you read or heard or watched. Can be really insignificant but there it is in our dream.

    Hope you have rain soon.

    Happy Saturday

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
