Dressing Up

August 7, 2022 at 9:24 am by Claudia

A quickish post this morning. I didn’t sleep well, we have another heat advisory, it’s incredibly humid and I have to get outside to hand water everything.

Sharing some photos of the girls that I’ve shared on IG over the past 3 or 4 days.

Pippa told me that it might not be fair to dress Holly in heavy winter clothes during a heat wave just because I think “she will look cute in this.”

Bless her heart, she put up with it.

Lucy in a pair of overalls that were a gift from Stacey.

I mentioned to Lucy that I myself had overalls like this in the 70s. And that I wore Earth Shoes and wide bells and wore bandanas on my head.

I’m not at all sure Lucy was impressed.

On the other hand, I am impressed with Lucy in these overalls. They’re made for her. Peace, Lucy!

I love dressing these girls so much, I can’t stand it!

I’m going to write a post soon about what to look for when you’re contemplating buying a Blythe doll. A few readers have purchased them since I started my little doll family. Ideally, that post would be today’s post but I’m behind and I have to get out there and water!

This heat wave continues through Tuesday – endless – and then it breaks.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Neither Don nor I have any energy. We keep falling asleep.

      Thanks, Linda!

Claudia, I sent a message to Don on Facebook Messenger of a post about a woman who found a Blythe doll at Goodwill for $7.99. There was a picture included. I have been following you for years. I think this is my first comment. I didn’t know how else to get the picture to you. I enjoy all of your posts very much!

I can’t wait for info about the dolls. Last week I went ahead ordered a doll from Belarus. It was OOAK doll. It was under $200.00. I hope I did okay!

Not going to buy any… wrong scale for my dollshouses. I don’t use dollshouse dolls much anyway: just furniture and fittings, in most cases, with a few exceptions (a market stall, a school class). But I still enjoy looking at your girls.

Of course they’re the wrong scale for a dollhouse! They’re entirely separate from anything dollhouse for me. I don’t use dolls at all in my houses, anyway.

      Stay safe, Petra.

good luck with the watering and prayers for everyone and everything that must deal with such high heat/humidity. stay safe and hydrated!

we are enjoying a nice start to the day here … a beautiful sky full of clouds that offer a break from glaring sun and heat, clouds that look like they are holding rain. wish they’d stick around (obviously they won’t), but maybe they will reach you soon.

cute outfits! i, too, wore overalls, “elephant bells” and earth shoes. also smocks, embroidered work shirts, hats, patches and peace signs. happy memories.

haven’t been here for the past couple of days. someone in my family has health problems that meant a long and very late night in an emergency room last wednesday into thursday. things are stable, but the problems remain. and someone in my sister-in-law’s family passed on wednesday. to anyone so inclined, i would very, very much appreciate prayers for my family, please and thanks.

i hope you all are well, safe and comfortable. and know i keep you all in my prayers.

I had a work shirt that I embroidered myself, as well as smocks and leotards.

Sending prayers your way, Kathy. Sorry for all the worries enveloping your family.

      Stay safe.

It’s time, Claudia! You might remember I said I would get a doll after I found an apartment. Moving in early September! Waiting lists are long. I am very thankful to move to the top of a list in less than a week. Bonus is a doll!
I had the big bell pants. Hip huggers so low I had to wear a body suit. Can you imagine sitting on snaps now? I had the fringed jacket. Still wear earth shoes, but prefer my Birkenstocks
Prayers are offered for anyone that has a need, for any reason.

Well, my MIL passed away yesterday afternoon. We are so grateful because she was suffering so much in hospice. She literally probably starved to death because she had not eaten in weeks. She was just skin and bones. I feel bad because we would have been sitting with her when she passed, except I had a hair appt. that I waited a long time for. Guilt always creeps in at times like these. Now the big chore ahead of us is cleaning out her room in assisted living. We will start that today. I feel for all of you with the heat. We are just the opposite here in Phoenix. Where we usually are hot, we are having cool temps and overcast skies. Also is supposed to rain. I love it. Keep cool!

May she rest in peace. For what it’s worth, my brother battled cancer for 5 years and one night he made his girlfriend go home to sleep. He passed away then. My dad took his final turn for the worse when my sister and I took a break to grab some food. My mom waited until my dad had left for the night. I strongly believe that sometimes the person who is ready to transition needs to be alone to begin the transition. Just my thoughts.

My love and sympathy to you and your family, Deb.

      Stay safe.

Sometimes they need permission to leave us. They need to be convinced we’ll be alright.
It happened that way with my aunt. Once I convinced her, she put a soft smile on her face and peacefully passed into our Father’s arms.

Yes, we did that with my dad. We gathered around him and told him we would be okay and that mom was waiting for him. I tear up just thinking of that.

Darling Blythe girls; darling clothes; darling poses.

Oh, the bandanas on the head; my whole senior year of high school (and first [my only] year of college). And never out of jeans/denim; became my uniform, paired with a boy’s tee or a peasant blouse. Every year prior, we’d never been allowed to wear pants/slacks in public school; only skirts and dresses.

Weather-weather-everywhere; HOT. Always 90s, for weeks on end. We don’t break this week in Southern Calif; we get worse with heat. Sigh.

Same here. We had a dress code until my senior year, when we had a ‘trial no dress code.’

      Stay safe, Vicki.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
