Drunk on Pollen

September 30, 2017 at 8:11 am by Claudia

I’m writing this rather quickly on this Saturday morning as I have to go into the city for a run-through of Shadowlands. As we head toward winter, it’s often dark when I wake up – always hard to get used to. No wonder we cocoon in the winter.

I took this picture yesterday with my iPhone. A bee was resting on one of the morning glories and I was able to get close enough to capture him in some detail. What I didn’t see at the time, I discovered when I edited it.

Pollen everywhere, including all over his body.  I’ve titled it: Drunk on Pollen.

It’s rather amazing that my iPhone 6 captured this level of detail.

This just might be one of my favorite photos ever.

As it was, there were 32 morning glories in bloom in the memorial garden and another 8 in the chicken wire fence garden. 40! An all-time record!

I was drawn to them off and on all day long. I even sat out on the funky patio to watch them move in the breeze. While I was out there, I watched a chipmunk eat a nut over by the rain barrel. Adorable.

Okay, my friends. I have to jump in the shower and get a move on.

Happy Saturday.

There’s a bee that was in the center of a morning glory last night and is still there today!

Have a fun day in the city despite working. Is Don home tomorrow? Have a fun Sunday too. Go get drunk on something you enjoy! I’m attending Ain’t Too Proud–The Temptations this afternoon at the Berkeley Rep. Should be a rollicking good time.

PS…enjoyed Coffee Day yesterday by buying a pound of Peet’s Major Dickason, espresso ground for my machine, at 25% off to celebrate. I like how Peet’s still sells beans from bins, and not always pre-packaged like Starbuck’s. I also like how the beans are roasted locally (some days when the breeze is just right, I can actually smell the beans roasting) so I know they’re fresh when I buy them.

Don comes home Sunday for his last day home for a long time! He starts the tour in a week and will be gone until the beginning of December.

We spent the day cleaning out the remaining pots in the yard, moving the few pieces of statuary, and doing a general clean-up. I leave most things as they are in the flower beds as I think the birds, etc. use them in the cold and snow. We had a little toad jump out just as we started this morning, and he/she stayed with us all day. So funny!!

I never think about pollen at this time of year, but since so many have allergies, it is obviously in the air. The MGs are just glorious!! True to their name!

Hope you had a great day. I am so very happy I put a roast in the crock pot this morning as I am beat!!

Good for you! I’m not even close to cleanup yet. I tend to leave everything out until November or December!

      Rest up today!

Oh I LOVE photographing bees. They have pollen all over them, their sacs are usually full and fat, and they make the cutest bee sounds as they work. Just amazing and adorable little creatures. Your photo says it all.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
