For a brief moment, I got excited when I saw an eBay listing for a Sneezy egg cup.
Then I realized that I had Sneezy and it was Sleepy I was searching for.
Darn it. Sleepy is very, very elusive. I’ve only seen Sleepy up for auction a couple of times. Each of those opportunities involved a seller who was auctioning off an entire set of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs egg cups.
And I don’t need the set. Just Sleepy.
Ah, well.
I’ll find him one day. This particular seller lived in Australia and was auctioning off both Sneezy and Happy, so if you’re interested, they’re up on eBay.
March is coming in like a lion. We’re supposed to get a lot of snow over the next two weeks, starting with 5 – 8 inches on Sunday night. March is almost always a snowy month around here, almost like Mother Nature is squeezing out as much snow as she can before April arrives.
And we’ve had our share of April snowfalls, as well.
At least we’ll be able to shovel this time around.
Another favorite egg cup:
The Artist Bunny Rabbit.
This was one of my earliest acquisitions. I still find it absolutely charming.
I saw my neighbor’s van this morning and remembered Don and I borrowing it to bring the egg cup cubby cabinet home. Thank goodness for generous neighbors! We have a lot of good finds around this cottage. I could reel off a list of them right now. But the egg cup cubby may be one of the best – at least for yours truly, though Don loves it, too.
It’s a slow and sleepy day here. I need to get motivated!
Let’s have a question for the day, one I love to ask. What are you reading at the moment?
I’m reading The Threat by Andrew McCabe.
Happy Friday.
Rose says
I am reading The Threat.
Claudia says
Ah, a fellow Threat reader!
Kay says
I always expect more of March, and it always disappoints. Some of the worst blizzards I’ve ever seen have happened in March.
I just started Michelle Obama’s “Becoming.” She writes so wonderfully about her childhood. She definitely knew how to stand up for herself and had a very strong sense of right and wrong at a very young age.
Claudia says
Snow tonight here and snow Sunday.
Enjoy Becoming.
kathy in iowa says
hope you find “sleepy” soon!
good luck with the snow, too.
to answer your question, i am trying to read my Bible every day … it needs to be part of my routine and my life to help me be my best. i hope to read “the threat” soon (will see about that … too many other things to do, including fun things like seven birthdays in my family this month).
now get your party started … it’s march 01! :) i am doing that dance here (even though we have a forecast that includes snow several days in a row starting next week), in part because i just got tickets for my brother, sister and me to peter frampton’s farewell tour!
happy weekend, everyone!
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
I’m not quite doing the dance since we have snow coming tonight and Sunday….
jeanie says
Adorable cups! I especially love the artist!
I’m reading “The Risk of Darkness,” a mystery by Susan Hill.
Claudia says
I’ve read all of Susan Hill’s Simon Serailler series. Enjoy!
Wendy T says
I’m reading Louise Penny in chron order, so I’m at The Cruelest Month. I’m alternating that with The Greatest Love Story Ever Told, by Megan Mullally and Nick Offerma, and with Becoming. So depending upon my mood, I have three very different books in rotation.
Claudia says
Three good books, Wendy!
Donnamae says
Always love seeing your egg cups…they make me smile.
I’m actually in between books…I keep falling asleep after reading for 10-15 minutes. So I decided to take a break. I’m going through my old magazines…deciding what to keep or recycle. But, I’ve got Louise Penny and Becoming on deck for whenever.
So glad March has finally arrived…it’s birthday month around here. But more importantly…we are that much closer to warmer weather! ;)
Claudia says
Yes, but it looks like we’re going to have to get through a lot of snow before then!
Donnamae says
Oh…there’s no denying that. Easter is late this year…April 21. I figure the snow might be melted by then…at least I hope! ;)
Claudia says
Fingers crossed. Glad February is over, but the gray skies and snow? Not happy!
Jayne Duey says
I’m currently working my way through all the Inspector Gamache mysteries by Louise Penny, thanks to your recommendation! I’m on “How the Light Gets In.” I’ve liked them all a lot, and I’m not sure where I’ll go after I finish them all sometime in the next couple of weeks.
I just spent a week in CT with my parents, and remembered part of why I moved – I really hate February in CT. It’s so gray and dreary most days. I got to experience snow, sleet, rain, and a variety of temperatures. Ick. Back here in Colorado, we may get up to a foot of snow this weekend. Since it’s so dry here, we never complain about any moisture.
Have a great weekend.
Claudia says
You’ll go through withdrawal after you’ve finished the series so far, Jayne.
JanL says
Have a couple of books in process: “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty. I’ve read a couple of Moriarty’s other books and liked them very much. Somehow this one isn’t feeling as easy to read. Also “Making Your Home A Haven: Strategies for the Domestically Challenged” by Cyndy Salzmann. Read with my grandson – “The Day the Crayons Quit” was enjoyable.
Was invited to attend a Book Club this week, my first time in such a group. I was amazed – 48 women, discussing recent reads, and planning future discussions. Their book-of-the-month discussion was “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann. it was about the Osage Indians relocation in Oklahoma, and the origin of the FBI. Have you read this? Also – they recommended a British author’s book “The Daughter of Time”.
Claudia says
I haven’t read that book, Jan. Enjoy your reading!
jan says
I went to my library website to put a hold on the book by Andrew McCabe and there were 271 holds already on it! It will be a while before I read it.
Claudia says
Well, at least there are a lot of people reading it!
Joy Hester says
Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which was great and about to start Where The Crawdads Sing.
Claudia says
I read Guernsey – loved it. Enjoy!
Linda @ A La Carte says
It is warmer but rainy here. Busy week so I am still reading Sally Field biography ‘In Pieces’. I hope I can get it finished before it’s due back at the library.
Claudia says
The race to finish before a book is due!
Barbara W. says
I love the artist rabbit! Between battling the elements, a back injury and staff shortages, I’m kind of done by the time I get home this week. Instead of reaching for my current read (Out of India: Selected Stories by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala), I’ve been listening to an audiobook (for the first time) – Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin. I’m a speed reader so I find myself wanting to “fast forward”, but it is forcing me to sit still with the hot pack.
Claudia says
Sometimes it’s good to go slow, Barbara. Hope your back feels better very soon!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
I am finishing The Paris Seamstress by Natasha Lester and about to begin The Garden of Small Beginnings by Abbi Waxman. The weather has been quite conducive to reading!! Gave Becoming to both our daughter and DIL for Christmas, so hoping one of them finishes it soon so I can read it next.
Claudia says
Sounds interesting, Chris! Enjoy.
Fiona says
I have spent all of February suffering from the awful flu, I’ve never felt so poorly. Now we’re into March I’m looking forward to spring, it’s just around the corner. I hope your snow isn’t too bad.
I’m currently reading 2 books which is not something I usually do. The first is
Bookworm: A Memoir of Childhood Reading by Lucy Mangan which is great fun as I have been able to recognise many of the books she’s referred to from my own childhood, I was a real bookworm. The second book which I picked up and now can’t put down is Dark Fire (The Shardlake Series Book 2) by C. J.Sansom. Oh it’s so good, I’m making myself read slowly so it lasts longer!
Hope you and Don have an enjoyable weekend.
Claudia says
You sound like us! A whole month of flu. I’m hoping you feel better soon. I said the same thing – I didn’t remember ever feeling so unwell!
I’ve heard about Bookworm – I hope to read it someday. Enjoy and feel better, Fiona!
Dee Dee says
Hello Claudia,
I’ve just finished ‘ The Sentence is Death, by Anthony Horowitz which I really enjoyed. He’s a British author and TV screenwriter – in particular ‘Foyle’s War’ which is a great crime series set during the Second World War. I’m not sure if it’s shown in the States.
I’ve started ‘Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine’ but only read the first chapter so far.
Working in a library as an inter library loan/purchasing administrator means I get to see all the lovely new stock first and know what’s on order pre publication. It’s so tempting to put in lots of reservation holds, but I have to await my turn alongside the public. Reservations are free for all, but I also have to pay overdue fines too!
I’ll keep my eyes open just in case the Sleepy eggcup turns up in an antique shop on this side of the pond – you never know !
Dee Dee
Lynn says
Loved ‘Foyle’s War’…we watched it on PBS and also on Amazon. Wish it had been a longer series. Michael Kitchen is so good as Foyle.
Claudia says
Yes, Foyle’s War was shown here and I believe it was also on Netflix for a while.
Enjoy your books, Dee Dee!
jan says
We love British tv . I have Acorn tv and Britbox. Foyle’s War is a favorite along with several others. Life would not be worth living without British shows. Another one like Downton Abbey would be really welcome.
Dawn Pinnataro says
I just finished reading new stock book that came in last week to my library; The Light Over London by Julia F. Kelly. Anything to do with the British Homefront (or US homefront too) OR with british royalty from Tudors (Henry VIII) through Elizabeth II (and her family) are right up my alley! I have a HUGE history buff.
Dawn Pinnataro aka GADawn57
Claudia says
Enjoy your history book, Dawn!
Lynn says
I’m reading “Victoria’s Daughters” by Jerrold M Packard. Very interesting and at times horrifying. According to this account Victoria was Not a kind, loving mother.
Claudia says
Oh, that’s disappointing to hear!
Margaret says
Started Louise Penny’s Kingdom of the Blind last night.
Claudia says
Enjoy, Margaret! I know you will.
Jan says
I’m reading A Great Reckoning by Louise Penny.
Claudia says
Enjoy! She’s a wonderful writer.
Jan says
Yes, she is. It was on your recommendation that I started to read the Inspector Gamache series, so thank you.
Claudia says
You’re most welcome!
suz says
i’m about halfway through “the looming tower” by lawrence wright, a book i’ve wanted to read for a LONG time. and i’ll probably read it again eventually. next will be “dawn of the code war” from john carlin, about the various cyberthreats over time against the u.s. from russia, china, et al. –suz in ohio
Claudia says
Is it the same Lawrence Wright who wrote about Scientology?
suz says
yes, the same. i read that one a few years ago, and HBO did a “going clear” special based on it. i so enjoy his work even though i’ve read so little of it relatively, but i always try to catch/record his tv appearances (usually on c-span). he is/was a regular staff writer for the new yorker, and one of my to-do list projects for the library is to read what i can find of his online (i don’t have a computer or i-thing) at home. –suz in ohio
suz says
and thanks for putting up this topic, claudia – i’ve picked up several ideas for my to-read list. also had to laugh about the comment above on the 271 holds for the mccabe book. i recently put in a request for a newer book (i think it was brad meltzer’s “escape artist” mystery focused on the dover afb mortuary), and there were three copies available – 2 audio and 1 print. there were 23 holds on the two audio versions and no holds for the print version … that’s telling. sigh. –suz in ohio
Claudia says
We get that sort of thing at my library, which is part of a bigger system. I often see hundreds of holds for a book I want that is at another library!
The McCabe book is hot right now! Which reminds me, I have to finish it this weekend.
Claudia says
I saw the HBO documentary on it and I have the book on my Kindle, but since I saw the doc first, I haven’t managed to read the book yet. I’ve seen him interviewed and really like his work.
Roxie says
So many good books, so little time! My main read is Les Miserables (because I usually juggle three books at a time). I remember it on the bookshelf growing up and I must have read it, but it’s like an entirely new book as I dive into it this time around.
Claudia says
Good for you, Roxie – a great book.
Marilyn says
We are expecting 3 inches Sunday into Monday. March can be a lot of snow storms. When I was little there was a blizzard in the middle of March. When my late friend’s son was born on April 5 th there was a blizzard. Hopefully March will go out like a lamb and no more snow.
Marilyn
Claudia says
I remember big snow storms in early April. Hopefully not this year!
Jayne says
With temps at -31 C, I have been reading a lot while I try to stay indoors. Right now I am reading John Grisham’s The.Reckoning and Stephen King’s Elevation, which was a recommend on a different blog.
Claudia says
Best to stay indoors and tuck into a good book, Jayne!
Nancy Blue Moon says
The Ragged Edge of Night by Olivia Hawker is my current read…a story about a small village of German people trying to survive the war and the Nazi regime…a very good story beautiful written!
Claudia says
I’ll have to make a note of that book, Nancy. Thanks!
Nora in CT says
Good to hear you sounding more like your healthy self, Claudia. And just in time for more snow!! For us too in the Farmington valley, March can dump big snowfalls on us. The wind storm last week knocked a cable down across our driveway and because there were widespread outages, we couldn’t reach a person to let them know until I finally called 911 the next day. Got chewed out for non-emergency, but the crew was here a few hours later and took care of the danger. Winter wonderlands!! I love your egg cup cubby too–it might have been custom made. And I’m eager to see your new doll house emerge. I think you just need to have a theme or maybe find out who will be living there. Will it be Caroline’s mountain escape or a writer’s retreat? Or a nice old lady’s family cabin built by her grandpa after WWI in the quiet of the Adirondacks? One day, you’ll know and then the ideas will flow. And just because I am as usual on a chatty flow, I am reading Midnight at Chernobyl. Yikes!! Fascinating tho. Never felt that “we” (i.e., the world) knew enough about nuclear energy to be messing with energy plants, but never knew how little we really planned for or could anticipate what could go wrong. I want to read McCabe’s book but worried about my blood pressure. It’s funny tho isn’t it–you-know-who scares me more than a nuclear melt-down. On that note, have a lovely weekend. XO
Claudia says
Well, of course you had to call 911!
I already have an idea for the dollhouse. I just have to get moving!
Wow. Chernobyl is a scary subject, isn’t it. The McCabe book – at least so far – hasn’t raised my BP, but when I get to the part about Trump, I expect that to change!
caren says
I’m reading Where The Crawdads Sing. Almost finished and will be sad for it to end. Very good book. Before that, I read Becoming.
Claudia says
Good books! I have yet to read either, though, so I’d better get on it.
Mary Bond says
I am trying to read and understand my camera’s manual. I have over 100 pages to read for ONE camera! I use vintage lenses on my digital camera.s. Such lenses are cheaper and have a wonderful look that is hard to find on modern digital lenses. They are also built like tanks.
The three book series by Justin Cronin that begins with The Passage is wonderful. I have read the Penny books also and they are most enjoyable.
Thank you for this question as I see more books to delve into,
I hope you find egg cup you desire.
Claudia says
My camera manual is the same. I confess I don’t read the whole manual, just what I need to do what I do.
I’ll find that egg cup some day! I’m determined to!
Carol Dunlap says
I’m going to start the Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. I just finished Instinct by James Patterson.
Claudia says
Enjoy, Carol!
Mary R says
I just finished The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis, which I really enjoyed. Before that I read Where the Crawdads Sing and prior to that, Becoming. It’s been a good month for reading, as the last few weeks have been snowy or rainy and damp here on Cape Cod.
Next up – House Girl by Tara Conklin.
I’ve enjoyed browsing the comments and getting ideas for my next reads, even though I have stacks of unread books scattered about.
Claudia says
I read The Dollhouse a while back and liked it, Mary. Have fun reading!
