Egg Cups and Cold Weather

March 18, 2026 at 8:56 am by Claudia

Cold and sunny today, with a gradual warmup starting tomorrow. I’m hearing some bird song in the morning, which is a good sign. On Monday we had high winds and lots of rain but it was warmer in the evening than it has been and the peepers reappeared. “Peepers! One night only!”

More egg cups:

A very tall egg cup on the left, handmade from a Holland Mold. It was a gift from a reader. I love that face. (Too tall for the cubbies, so it sits on a different shelf.)

Another bunny with an orange cup on his back.

One of the first egg cups in my collection. This is a rooster egg cup by Holt Howard. It was in perfect condition until it fell one day. I had to glue it back together.

One of my favorites on the left, another egg cup made for Fanny Farmer. It’s very heavy and I’ve read that it was made by McCoy – whether that’s actually true or not, I don’t know. The paint is in perfect condtion, which is very rare. And the words Fanny Farmer are inscribed on the bottom edge of the cup.

Two dogs holding up an egg cup. This one is so whimsical and the design at the top of the cup is charming.

Momma duck and babies – this one is beautifully designed and painted. The cup has a lustreware finish.

A Walking Ware clone egg cup. I have two of these, one is an actual Walking Ware cup from Carleton in England. This one isn’t, but I love it anyway.

Have to get the car inspected today. Fingers crossed! Don is leaving in just a few minutes.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

How many egg cups do you own, Claudia? Do you still look for them?

Hope your car passes inspection without any money put into it!

I’ve never counted, Wendy – maybe 70? I’m not sure. I don’t actively look for them anymore. Occasionally, if I see one I don’t have, I’ll buy it.

Car passed the inspection! Just needed new wiper blades.

      Stay safe, Wendy.

always enjoy seeing the egg-cups and learning some of their stories. thank you for taking the time and effort to share with us!

glad you are hearing birdsong and the peepers. good sign!

not soon enough to clear the trail (so we walked in the mall this morning), but our recent one-inch snowfall will be gone today as it is sunny and supposed to reach 60 degrees (and 80 by saturday, which many people will love). spring, for sure.

today my (obviously twin) sister and i turned 68. will be as we like … a low-key day with the walk, cake, visiting with some family and missing the others. fed earl and the birds. also a bit of knitting and we will watch a dvd (probably “something’s gotta give” and one about a favorite band, the bodeans).

hope you, don and everyone else have a good day and stay safe.

hope you and don are having a nice day.

        thanks very much, donnamae. :)

had a bittersweet day. tried (and trying) to focus more on the sweet than the bitter. your kind wish helped.

hope you and your family are well and having good, easy days, and that you get no more snow until you’re wanting some.

        thanks again.

It did go well. The only things that needed to be replaced were the windshield wipers.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

No more snow here but boy is it it cold out!
The pussy willows are out so that is a good sign.

It’s still cold here. Slowly, slowly getting warmer.

      Thanks, Betsy.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
