Egg Cups in the Mail

April 10, 2024 at 9:33 am by Claudia

Thank you for your kind responses on Monday. Life can be wonderful, but very difficult, as well.

On Monday, I received a package in the mail from my cousin Eileen and her husband. In it were two egg cups chosen from several they discovered in an antique shop in Mississippi. These are the cups I chose.

On the left, a dragron. This is a single egg cup and it is Royal Stafford English Bone China.

On the right, a Peter Rabbit egg cup from Wedgwood. It’s a bucket style egg cup.

The Beatrix Potter line of egg cups are still readily available, but for some reason I had never purchased one.

There are flowers on the other side of the first cup, and more of Peter Rabbit’s story and text on the other side of that cup.

Here are the marks. I have no idea when the dragon cup was made – there are a lot of marks for Royal Stafford. I would say some time in the 20th Century. I’ve discovered the pattern is Dragon Blue, or Blue Dragon, depending on the listing.

Both of them are now ensconced in the egg cup cubby cabinet.

I’ve been searching for French egg cups of the style I showed you in a recent post. They’re out there, but not in great numbers. How I wish I was scouring the flea markets in France right now. I have a few of them bookmarked on my browser and when I have a little extra money, I’ll buy one.

It’s going to be rainy today. In fact, I can hear thunder in the distance. And it will rain tomorrow and Friday and then, we just might have a stretch of several days without rain. Fingers crossed. Don has been doing some work on the paths in our little woods and I have been digging a seemingly endless array of invasive plants out of the funky patio area.

Today, we grocery shop and make a quick stop at the library. And try to stay dry!

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

I love the new additions to your egg cups! I miss collecting but right now it’s all about downsizing for me.

Well…I’m certainly glad you have room in your egg cup cupboard for these two lovely additions to your collection. Didn’t realize Beatrix Potter had egg cups, but it does make perfect sense. Whimsy and all that.

Sincerely hope you are feeling better. Enjoy your day! ;)

glad you and don have had time to get outside and enjoy some yardwork (though “digging out a seemingly endless array of invasive plants” does not sound like fun to me!).

also that you have more sweet egg cups and a sweet cousin and her husband watching for them for you.

good luck with the weather. wish we’d get all that rain (because i love it. also we are still in a “severe” level of drought here).

hope monday’s stressful thing is done and gone and never to return.

had a bit of stress myself yesterday when i took my car in (to the service department of the place i bought my car more than ten years ago) for an oil change and to get front and rear brakes replaced. also another new left headlight (second one in less than two years). well, after waiting there for nearly four hours, they said my car was ready to go, told me how much it would cost, but gave no details. so i asked and the guy talked about the front brakes. nothing about the rear brakes. i asked again … did they open them up and visually inspect them? no. did they replace them like i asked (as one of their other techs said was needed “soon” four months ago) and was written on the order i had to sign yesterday to authorize all the work? no. they admitted they hadn’t done anything about the rear brakes except “the technician spun them and they didn’t leak”. ugh. so, to get the rear brakes replaced i have to take my car in again on friday and they couldn’t commit to any certain time, just that i will be without my car all day, from about 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. and it will cost more than what the guy told me four months ago … $250 more (just like yesterday’s front brakes). ugh. anyway, anyway …. will be good to have that work done, too.

    thanks for listening. :)

on a happier note, my sister made lasagna (always excellent) so i have wonderful time together with them and a good lunch to enjoy!

hope you all have something good to look forward to and have a safe, happy wednesday and thursday. always.

    xo,
    kathy

Monday’s stressful thing is ongoing, Kathy. I don’t see an end in sight at the moment.

Sorry about the hassle with the car! More of your time taken up with something they should have done to begin with. It’s maddening!

      Stay safe.

When my daughters were younger, my Mom bought as many Wedgewood Peter Rabbit pieces for them as she could. She only bought pieces that were made in England. (She said some are made elsewhere now.) Among the pieces is an egg cup just like yours for each daughter. Thanks for opening up my memories of the meals and afternoon teas I made for them and served in their special pieces.

Okay, wake up, Vicki; it’s a planter pot not an egg cup, right? I’m in too much of a hurry.

Thanks for sharing your new cups.

I’m sorry you’ve got stress going on; I hope it can improve, Claudia.

      Thinking of you.

very important for everyone who loves jimmy buffett!!!

i just learned that tomorrow night at the hollywood bowl there will be a special concert for jimmy; it’s called “keep the party going: a tribute to jimmy buffett”. performers include the coral reefers, zac brown, jackson browne, paul mccartney and others. concert starts at 7:00 pm pacific time. don’t know if there is live-streaming of this concert or if it might be turned into a dvd and/or a “pay per view” thing to watch later. didn’t want to let any more time go by without sharing this bit of news because i know there are jimmy fans here and (in case it is live-streamed) because it’s tomorrow night.

if i find out more details, i will be back here with them.

    fins up, everyone! :)

and bubbles up, too (please go listen to that song from his latest album. always makes me cry but in a mostly-happy way).

    xo,
    kathy

Love your two new egg cups especially the Peter Rabbit one. I am quite the collector of the little Beatrix Potter figurines. I have most of them except for the few that sell for over a thousand dollars each. I also collect the Beatrix Potter music boxes but don’t have quite so many of those. I do have the complete set of her Peter Rabbit books. Yikes! I’d better stop! Hugs, Elaine

We’re due for two days of rain, hold onto your hats! I have that Peter Rabbit egg cup and I love it. In fact, it’s still out with the egg in it from Easter (though I took all the eggs down — or so I thought!) I love them all.

I’m glad today’s alittle better! Cheers!

I sympathize, Claudia. Stress seems to come with modern life these days. I try to remember to be grateful I mostly have first world stresses but it still plays havoc with your mind and body.

    Take care of yourself,

Pouring rain in the D today & tomorrow. Worried about my love one (can google Max + Scottish Fold + Michigan) to see his sweet face as he’s been losing weight. So waiting for tomorrow so his vet can see him.
Remembering that 46 years ago I was spending a Spring term in London–and still missing it. Cried when I left.
To distract myself from worrying about my baby, searched your blog for London and ended up in London & Paris back in 2018. Forgot what wonderful photos you’d taken of your trip. And how much fun it must have been to have seen Don’s face when he saw the Food Hall at Harrods!

Oh boy. Don LOVES food, so he was overwhelmed!

      Stay safe, Lucinda.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
