Escape to New York City

February 19, 2018 at 9:10 am by Claudia

I never tire of the building facades in New York City. This one, with its painted bricks and green trim, was charming.

I got to the apartment around 3 pm and my husband was there to greet me. After some late lunch, we took a walk around midtown.  It was lovely.

When I first saw this sign, I assumed this was a company that makes rubber stamps. It’s a large building, so it was presumably their factory. Or so I thought.

But no! It’s for stamp collectors! I felt like I was transported back to my childhood! Isn’t that amazing? They had beautiful stamps on display in the windows. Right in the middle of Midtown – a shop devoted to stamp collecting.

I love New York.

Would Don and I look silly driving around town on twin Vespas? We rather like the idea.

We had dinner at the apartment because Don has but one day off and he’s tired. We just wanted to chill out. And then we cuddled on the sofa (which we do every night we’re together) and watched Ice Dancing.

I didn’t have time to watch CBS Sunday Morning when it aired because I was, sadly, shoveling snow. But we saw it later in the day. A very nice profile of Jimmy. I’m glad you saw it! I had messages about it throughout the day on this blog and Instagram.

Don said the cast will be performing on one of the morning shows in March. I’m not sure which one (maybe Today?) or when, but I’ll alert you when I do know.

As I left the cottage yesterday, the snow was already melting. I have a feeling that when I return on Wednesday (a 70 degree day) it will have all but disappeared.

Happy Monday!

You MUST get Vespas! At least once! Or maybe the whole cast could do a photo shoot on them! I have a soft spot for Vespas!
I watched the CBS spot this morning. Great interview with Jimmy. He is so darn cute!
Have a wonderful time with Don!

We most likely won’t get a Vespa! I can think of other things I’d like to use that money for!

Love seeing your photos of the city. I would love to visit that stamp store! Went to their website to check it out. I am continuing to add to a stamp collection started by my grandfather.

Saw the feature on CBS Sunday Morning yesterday. Such delightful surprise!

I know we could. We think they’re cute, but I think we’d only rent them if we were in Italy or some place like that.

Enjoy your time in NYC with Don. My daughter collects stamps, adding to the collection started by her paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother. She concentrates on US, Canada, and Great Britain, but isn’t an obsessive buyer, just buys what she likes, especially the Star Trek, on which Canada did a magnificent job, and Star Wars, on which GB did outstanding philatelic merchandising, series. The US stamps, as usual, were rather straight-forward, as if the USPS doesn’t understand why anyone would want to keep stamps.

Enjoy your 70’s weather when you arrive home! After a spate of warm early summer-likeweather, when my flowers got tricked into blooming, we are heading into freezing temps at night, which will surely kill my blooms.

What fun to find the stamp store! A big city is full of interesting places, great architecture and fun. Glad you got to snuggle and watch ice dancing. I do love the Olympics. A friend from church passed away and I’m feeling a bit sad today.

Say YES to the Vespas. My soon to be 16 year old granddaughter wants one and I considered getting her one, but her mom and dad said absolutely not…. Poor kid! LOL Instead she is getting a car.

I would so love to see specialty, individual shops like you mention; what a treat. A very appealing thing. And I think I’d really enjoy all the parks in NYC, not just Central Park. They seem walkable…and safe, although maybe it’s an illusion and just what I see in films, never having actually been there…

The musical seems very rousing and physical, so I think I can see where Don (any actor) would get tired and, of course, it’s the hours, too; the discipline; rigorous. It seems these days, anytime after 6pm, I can’t get enough gumption to accomplish anything except watch a movie on TV whereas in my younger years, I had a whole life that started after I got off work at 5pm – – shopping, partying, cleaning my apartment, working out/exercising; paperwork. The brain changes; the body changes…over the years. So, kudos all the more to Don who, in the ‘senior’ years/’retirement’ years/’leisure (ha!)’ years, has had to train himself to be very active on weekends and nights which for so many people don’t include paying work but, rather, relaxation.

Does he have a solo(s) in the production? On the CD, will I be able to pick up on his voice? I’ve really never heard his voice except for I think when you did the little video, here on the blog, upon giving him the dollhouse (the cool studio).

Most of the parks – at least the ones I’ve been in – are perfectly safe and are lovely, as well.

It can be an exhausting schedule, doing the show. It will be less so once they’re no longer rehearsing in addition to performing.

Yes, he has solos. He’s featured in about 4 or 5 numbers (with solos) and one number is his exclusively. I have no idea if you’d be able to pick up his voice! But if you follow along with the liner notes, you’ll know when he’s singing.

I’ve never been to New York but the architecture looks stunning. Thank you for sharing it with us. A friend of ours once said that when you are in the city always look up. He was speaking about London but I imagine the same could be said for New York.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
