The fabric easter eggs are on display. I made them when I was back in San Diego for a six month period in 2011 to coach Shakespeare. I borrowed my friend Ingrid’s Featherweight and made a quilt top (the hand quilting has yet to be finished) and these fabric eggs. There is a great quilt shop in San Diego – there are none near me here in NY. There was one in Woodstock and I loved that, but eventually they relocated to a town that was too far away from us. Anyway, I took advantage of the opportunity to buy fat quarters and create. Gosh…they’re now 15 years old!
I’m feeling better and I plan on doing some work on the Beacon Hill today. I just have to get off my tush and go for it. I might grab the chance to do a little pruning work outside, as well. I have to cut back a section of the limelight hydrangea because it’s keeping one of my boxwoods hidden. It’s not getting enough light and is much smaller than the other 3 boxwoods. I meant to do that last year, but forgot.
It’s a gray day today but it will be warmer than yesterday. We’re due for lots of rain on Easter.

I redressed Gilly the other day, adding a knit hat that I found in my stash. As always, thanks to the Beacon Hill for being a trusted location for photo ops. As of now, I have no idea what the final exterior color will be.
I finished the book by James Lee Burke. He spoils me for other writers, he’s that good. But I do have two Susan Hill books in the Simon Serailler series waiting to be read. Somehow I missed them when they were published. Her writing style couldn’t be more different than Burke’s. Equally good, though.
Okay, my friends.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Alas, I think I’ve read all of the Susan Hill/Serrailer books. Also waiting for the James Lee Burke to be purchased by my library. And starting to miss the Strike books…Hurry up R. G., please! In a bit of a new-read desert around here.
Love the patchwork Easter eggs, too. Hope you have a lovely Easter weekend.
Those Strike books are so lengthy! Must take a while to write them.
Stay safe, Shanna.
I’ve since read that there is a title for the new one, but no date yet. It’s Sleep Tight Evangeline.
Ah!
xo
glad you are feeling better!
and that you have the possibility of gardening outside today, along with work on the beacon hill and reading some books by an author you like. enjoy!
those fabric eggs are sweet. nice work, claudia!
walked in the mall yesterday due to rain. saw lots and lots of 70’s-style clothes in shop windows. went to a couple shops later and tried on sandals, but didn’t buy any (only came in whole sizes and the 8’s were of course too big, 7’s too small). also looked for a very simple top that i could wear with various skirts and they all seemed matronly. am skipping matronly. also skipping the 70’s stuff (even though i loved it back then and now, including seeing it on the “mary tyler moore” show). oh, well. not that important to me.
must get to other things. looking forward to getting stuff done, including that prayer shawl.
happy Good Friday. stay safe.

I liked clothes in the 70s but now I look back at them and say “What were we thinking?”
Thanks so much, Kathy.
Stay safe.
Adorable.
Thank you, Sue.
Stay safe.
I believe you are the one whose earlier mention of Susan Hill got me started on that series, which I have enjoyed over the years. Sadly I don’t think there are any that I missed!
Ceci
Both of these came out in 2019 and 2020 – lockdown time.
Thanks, Ceci.
Stay safe.
I remember when you made your Easter eggs. They are so pretty and very vintage. Happy Easter to you and Don. Hugs, Elaine
Happy Easter, Elaine.
Stay safe.
Your fabric eggs are adorable. I have made them years ago but gave them away to friends. I should put them on the long list of ” why are you reading , when you should be sewing?” :)
Have a great weekend.
Oh, don’t we all have lists like that?
Thanks, Betsy.
Stay safe.
I just love the Serrailler books and have read them all. But the last was a couple of years ago and had a cliffhanger yet to be resolved. She’s in her 80s — I hope she finishes fast!
Those fabric eggs are gems. I can see where they would be fun to do and probably more than a bit of a challenge, too, with their egg shape. I love the colors you chose — so full of spring.
And I’m glad to hear you are feeling a little better, enough to get back to Beacon Hill! I hope your Easter is lovely. We’ve had torrential rain (again, outside and in the basement) since about 3 a.m. or so and still going (though now just a steady and gentle rain, not the torrents that lasted for several hours.) The yards look like ponds or mini-lakes. I hope your Easter rain is more gentle and that you have a lovely day.
The last one was in 2001. It’s one of the two Susan Hill books I reserved from the library.
Our basement, being very, very old, takes in water when ever it rains. We have a sump pump, but I kind of worry about the foundation. I figure that will be someone else’s problem off in the future.
Thanks, Jeanie.
I’m not a quilter, but I have heard of the Quilter’s Attic in Pine Bush, NY – may be of interst to you.
Happy Spring,
Anne
I’ve been there. It was okay, but I believe – at the time – they had a lot of ‘primitive’ fabrics and that’s not my thing. It’s okay; I’m not actively doing any quilting.
Stay safe.
