Fading Beauty

September 11, 2018 at 10:25 am by Claudia

I find aging flowers to be beautiful in their own right. Such texture, beautiful fading colors! Some of the first-to-bloom zinnias are fading now.

Aren’t they lovely?

We had a great time with Rick and Doug yesterday. They’re leaving on Friday and we’re driving them to the bus station. Doug knows a lot about travel and all the little, helpful details that we should know and he shared them with us. Today, we booked our trip on the Eurostar from Paris to London. Each time we do something like this, I get really excited.

This is my dream trip. It’s a dream come true. We were never able to do this before now.

I’m so friggin’ excited! With all that’s happened recently in my professional life, knowing that this trip was on the horizon really helped. Screw ’em. I’m going to Europe!

Today’s idea: go to bookstore and buy Bob Woodward’s new book. Oh, yes. I’m going to settle in with that book – a book I know is driving someone mad. Or madder than he already is.

Remember that little framed print I purchased recently for $10. I found the perfect place for it

In our half bath upstairs. The frame is the same color as the one on the other print. That was my grandmother’s. It’s very fragile and evokes such a strong sense memory of being in her house. I wonder if it was her mother’s? I’m not sure. Anyway, I think they look splendid together.

Okay. I’m off to get ready for the day.

Happy Tuesday.

Yes! Screw them….you are going to Europe! I find just saying that is empowering, isn’t it?

I hope to get Fear today, too…but, if not….I’ll send hubby tomorrow. Those pictures work well together…glad you found a spot. Enjoy your day! ;)

Those pictures look beautiful together, Claudia! So often I look at some of the things in my home from family members who have passed, and I think of all of the questions I wish I had asked when I still had the chance. To everyone who still has parents, grandparents, great aunts and uncles, etc who are still with us, ask those questions now. You will be forever greatful that you did, and those you ask will usually be more than thrilled to share with you.

Glad you had a fun brunch. I can tell by your “voice” that the trip is going to be fantastic! I want to read the book, also, but don’t know if my BP can handle it. The interviews have been so good that I have seen thus far.

Have a good Tuesday! I am wondering if the Hummingbirds are getting ready for their journey. It has been non-stop at the feeder the past week or so. Fun to watch!

I asked questions but what I didn’t do was write things down. So now I can’t remember things that my aunt told me, for instance, about my father’s family. Why didn’t I tape her or write it down?

Fading flowers are beautiful! It’s what I think of aging in a way. The shape and form change a bit. Colors fade but beauty is still there, just not so obvious. I’m packing and excited to be flying to Cali to see my girl. I’ll miss the hurricane I believe. Love the prints together, just right. Hugs!

    Love the framed art.

I’ve been watching Rachel again and I decided after her show last night that I’m def buying Woodward’s book; I like a lot of his books anyway…and him (since I was young, and so was he!). If I’m not mistaken, he’s on her show tonight.

Claudia, you have been SO many places in the past couple of years! Just think of it: NOLA, Chicago, out here to La Jolla and then the trip you and Don took back to NY across the country, west to east. I can’t remember if there was a Florida trip in there. Now Europe; it’s all so fab. You are one lucky girl. Happy for you and Don both. Your excitement is contagious!

We have been lucky for the past year. There were about 23 years there where we were unable to travel together and most travel involved work or ailing family members and one of us always had to be home for our dogs. We’ve earned it.

Claudia – I also got “the book” today and will start reading tonight – Sometimes I think anticipating something is just as great as doing it. Planning, packing, visualizing all the great places you’ll see and all that wonderful food – what could be greater than roaming the streets of London or Paris – You and Don need this trip, deserve the trip – once in a lifetime – go all out and do it your way – memories forever. You’ll feel like a new person when you get home.. Bon Voyage, Mary Ellen

My flowers are fading too but I still am enjoying them and so are my little hummingbird couple…I was out there today taking care of a few flower pots that were drowning from all the rain and suddenly the tiny lady appeared and flirted from flower to flower and then up to a wire to sit for a while…I love when they stop and sit so I can get a better look at them!…I am glad to hear that you have such an great attitude towards the employers now…I have to laugh at what you said Claudia!…I was so afraid that you two would cancel your trip because of them…I am very happy that you are still going…I am very excited for you!

Oh, how lovely to see the hummingbird!

We would never have cancelled this trip because of them. Never!

I’m so very sorry about your professional disappointments. Being hurt on a personal and professional level is surely a double whammy. I was happy to read your words of confidence and pride in your work. As women, and women of a certain age, disappointments can knock the wind out of our sails, and you will not permit that. Go and conquer Europe! You’ll be flying on the wings, prayers, and love of so many who care and admire you. XO

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
