Fall, Books, and Redford

September 17, 2025 at 8:13 am by Claudia

The landscape has changed so much! Leaves on the ground, flowers decreasing, the light changing. It’s definitely autumn around here. I have to get out and do some weeding, but I’m still a wee bit tired from the job in New Jersey. Don has been urging me to rest.

I love autumn, but it leaves me a bit melancholy, as it means winter is just around the corner. But mostly, I love it and it’s always quite beautiful around here. The black walnuts started dropping leaves a month or so ago. The maple leaves are turning gold, and the limelight hydrangeas are turning pink. (I’ll get some pictures today.)

I just finished Daniel Silva’s newest mystery and returned it to the library yesterday. While I was there, I picked up another book I had on hold. I now have two rather large tomes to read before the end of the month. One is due on the 25th, the other is due on the 30th. I have mapped it out; I have to read a certain number of pages a day in order to finish both of them on time. Will I finish them on time? Stay tuned.

The news that Robert Redford passed away has left me feeling so sad. Don, too. What an amazing man he was; so talented, so dedicated to his work and to Sundance and to the environment. His was a noble life and we are all better for ‘knowing’ him. I had a poster from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid  on the wall of my dorm room. Three Days of the Condor  and All the President’s Men  are two of my favorite films. And his direction of Ordinary People  was simply exquisite. He was a true movie star in the best sense of that phrase and there aren’t many of them left. He was also an extraordinarily good man. Rest in Peace.

The girls are getting a change of clothing. Four down, many more to go.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday,

Fall is my favorite season. I’ve read many nice things about Robert Redford. It sounds like he lived a good life and was a fine gentleman.

i, too, hope you will leave the leaves alone for a while and take a well-earned rest.

fall here as well … beautiful. i am ready for it. october tends to be rainier around here (which i love) and fall feels like a shorter season for us so winter is coming (and i love that, too … but hope your melancholiness goes away).

    agree about robert redford!

your girls look sweet. am partial to the outfit on the left.

good luck with the the reading schedule. haven’t read in months, but am trying to knit a bit after dinner. very simple hats in “super-bulky” yarn; one takes about four hours. will go to my church’s fundraiser in early december.

hope you, don and everyone else have a nice day. stay safe.

I don’t do the leaves – Don does. But I do weed!

      Stay safe, Kathy.

I would love to see the mechanics of dressing the girls someday – interested in the construction of doll clothes, although I know these are for adults not children.

And I would support resting too – feeling fatigued is telling you something, and you don’t want to be vulnerable to some virus etc.

    Cheers,

    Ceci

Fall is beckoning me also. The light changes, the air is cooler and I feel more energized. I spent yesterday thinking about Robert Redford. A true gentleman and artist, an environmentalist and yes a heart throb for me. So many films that were memorable. I was sad, but also knowing I’m in the winter of my life it helps me to try to enjoy all the moments I have left.

      A real heart throb, right?

It’s all too close to home. He wasn’t that much older than us. I sort of thought he’d live well into his nineties.

      Stay safe, Linda.

I love the feel of Fall. I love wearing sweaters, seeing the reds, oranges, yellows, feeling the coolness and calmness. We aren’t quite there yet around here…today will be close to 90°…but soon. I was sad to hear about Robert Redford, too…for all the reasons you mentioned. The Sting was a favorite in our family. Enjoy your reading and rest.

Sometimes, but the traffic can be noisy, so not often.

Things are beginning to turn here in Oregon … fall is definitely in the air. I was also sad to hear the news of Robert Redford passing. I had a Sting poster of him in my high school bedroom. Such a talented (and handsome!) man.

My favorite Robert Redford movie is The Hot Rock from 1972. George Segal, Zero Mostel, Ron Leibman, and a bunch of other great actors are in it, it’s a funny heist movie. Redford is cute and very funny in it. He could do comedy too!

I am definitely so sad about Robert Redford. I could watch “The Way We Were” over and over. That last scene where they see each other again makes me cry like a baby! He is so handsome! He also was just a good human being.
Did so many things in his life besides acting. May he RIP.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
