Family

November 13, 2017 at 10:04 am by Claudia

Yesterday was all about family. We had breakfast with Mere, John and my nephews. I’m so proud of those boys. My two older nephews are really lovely young men and all-around good guys. Having the luxury of time to talk with them – on Saturday night and yesterday morning – was a gift. After breakfast, John and the older boys took off for the Bears/Packers game and Mere, Don, Little Z and I chatted a bit longer. Then Don left for his matinee and, since Little Z was really under the weather, we went up to the hotel room and hung out there.

Poor boy.

That’s all the energy he could summon up.

Mere texted me this morning from the airport – Little Z is feeling a bit better, thank goodness. I’m sad that they’re gone. In a perfect world, we’d all be living in the same community, but in my family, we all live far away from each other.

The lower lip.

He’s so much taller! He’s still a bit of a peanut, but his legs are longer. Still has the best eyebrows I’ve ever seen. And the most expressive. Oh, and the most beautiful thick fringe of black eyelashes.

Let’s face it. He’s a beautiful boy.

I downloaded the Uber app so I could grab a ride from the hotel to our apartment and I told Mere that I’d better get going so that I could beat the crowd at the end of the football game. Too late. When I got downstairs, I saw scores of fans streaming out of the park, so I had to wait about 20 minutes for my ride. But my driver was great and I had a great time talking with him. I love Uber, but there’s not a big call for it back home in our little town. NYC? Yes.

Around about Don’s dinner break, I walked over to the theater and met him at the stage door and we grabbed a bite to eat.

My view walking back across the Chicago River.

Chicago is a gorgeous town. I’m enjoying my time here. I’ve been here a lot over the years but this two-week opportunity to explore the city is a gift. I’m grateful.

Today is Don’s day off. Yay!

Happy Monday.

Enjoy your day with Don. Chicago is exciting to say the least. I love the pics.
I hope Z continues to feel better.

I’m glad you’re having a good time in “my” city. The sun is shining today (at least it is in the ‘burbs) and since Don is off, I hope you have a great time exploring. How wonderful that you had a chance to spend time with your extended family. Too bad Mere had to leave already. It’s hard when family is scattered across the country.

The sun was shining but then it got cloudy and gray. Ah well.

Happy to hear that Little Z is feeling a bit better. I’m sure the menfolk (jees…what century was I born in?), enjoyed the game yesterday…I know I did! It is hard when your family is scattered all over…but, that seems to be the norm these days. Chicago has a vibrancy about it at night…the view you captured is wonderful. Enjoy your day with Don! ;)

Oh that face on Little Z!! He is adorable and I know how a kiddo that age can just capture your heart (my Tiger). So glad you got time with family but so sad it was short. We are always blessed whenever our family is all together also. I am falling for Chicago and think I really should visit there someday. Have a great day with Don. Hugs, Linda

Family time is so precious. I didn’t realize you’d be in Chicago for two weeks! What a wonderful vacation. How long is Margaritaville’s run?

What a wonderful time you had! Chicago would be a place I could enjoy living. Closer to the grandkids, and the city offers so much!

I know. If I had to live in a city (which would be very hard for me at this point) Chicago would be a terrific choice.

Being born in Chicago and living there until I was 7 and then in the nearby suburbs, it is a place near and dear to my heart. So much to see and do. I know you won’t ever be bored! It is also a relatively easy city to navigate, especially since you have visited previously. Enjoy! We have sun up here today and I think I saw on the weather this morning that Chicago does, also. yay!!

What a wonderful thing to have that time to spend with your family. Such precious time. We can talk on the phone and text with family and friends, but actually spending face-to-face time is the best. Hope you and Don also have a great time together today!

the best of both worlds. they’re still little but with the glasses somehow they look grown up too!
and you’re right about the eyebrows and eye lashes… he’s destined to be a heart breaker!
have fun with Don showing off Chicago!

So glad you are having a fabulous time with family and enjoying Chicago. That is one city I’ve spent very little time in – just quick trips in and out for work. So happy to see you with your sister. I spent last weekend with my sister in NYC and we went to Anastasia and then went to Birdland – a great jazz club. Good times! Enjoy the rest of your stay.

SO glad little Z is feeling better! After reading here about all the lil guy’s been through in his life, I honestly worry about him now when you write about this or that. Almost like I “really” know him. Is that weird? Well anyway, I’m just really glad he feels better today. Too bad your sister couldn’t have stayed longer in Chicago. Being sick is always rotten – especially when you’re a little kid – and especially when you’re away in a big new exciting city & can’t fully enjoy all the exciting things you’re seeing & experiencing. Gee, that one shot of Chicago at night is gorgeous. Maybe all cities are at night, but I do think Chicago is really something! Maybe it’s the river and the buildings together? Just stunning. Keep on having fun in Chicago. Will you be there for Thanksgiving? Did I already ask you that? [future Alzheimer’s patient here – haha] Peace. 🏙

Not weird at all. Mere and I have shared so much of his story that I completely get that you feel ‘invested’ in him. He grabs the heart of everyone he meets. I will be here for Thanksgiving and the cast of Escape to Margaritaville is marching in the Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Little Z is in my prayers for a quick recovery. And he is a beautiful child.
When I start a wish list it is always that my family lived close. I dream of being able to buy all four of my children homes within a few blocks of our home. And my sisters too! I just dream of having tea with my sisters every morning for an hour before we start our day and being able to have Sunday potlucks with kids, grandkids, sisters and their families, and friends. It would all be so perfect. But I think I will have to wait for heaven for all this to happen. But dreams are allowed!

I have that same wish list. Mere and I talk about it frequently. Time goes by so quickly and I often think about how much I miss by being so far away. I understand.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
