Filling the Time

February 25, 2026 at 8:50 am by Claudia

Another couple of inches of snow fell overnight. Fortunately, it’s going to hit 40 degrees today, so it won’t last. Now, if we could get the rest of the snow on the ground to melt, I’d be thrilled. It is going to be warmer for the next several days, with a few cold days here and there.

Don was snoring and woke me up way too early this morning so I am not a happy camper. I know he can’t help it and it doesn’t happen all that often; nevertheless, I’m sleep deprived.

There’s not much to report. I’ve been crocheting and reading. I’m almost finished with Is a River Alive?  and the next book to be read will be the first book in Elly Griffith’s new series, The Frozen People. This series of mysteries involves time travel. Can’t wait to start it!

And this is really what I’ve really been concentrating on. It relaxes me and helps to fill the time on these long, and sometimes bleak, winter days. I have to give it to Don, he picked out some lovely colors. (I did help a little.)

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

The afghan is gorgeous. Don’s pop of red request is really outstanding.

We’re done with rain for a while but we’re heading into the very low 70’s. Daughter just returned from SoCal to visit her boyfriend and she said it was high 70’s there.

I’m reading through a cozy mystery series about the Honourable Daisy Dalrymple. I discovered the series almost 20 years ago but at the time, my library only had more recent books. Now with many California libraries hooked into the Link+ system, I can request books from any library on the system and they’re delivered to my local branch. So I’ve begun the series at the beginning and reread the middle books that I read so many years ago.

Hang in there! Spring will appear soon…ish.

We have that with our interlibrary loan system. If I relied on my local library, I’d have hardly anything to read! It’s small.

      Stay safe, Wendy.

Oh, wow, the afghan is really coming along. It must be interesting to change the colour every couple of rows. The colours are lovely. It’s going to be nice and warm. Love in every stitch! Hugs, Elaine

Beautiful colors, your’re fast and good at crocheting.
Can you please send a little of those white flufffies our way, please.
You know, this morning I feel like I may have had a small stroke this year. I don’t know, but it’s possible. So much stress.
Time travel books seem so cool. Enjoy.
I want to make this cheerful because I feel so sad. It seems like that time of year.

Robert Macfarlane is wonderful! Have you read “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt? It was the perfect read for these dark days as winter lingers on. Quite different from my usual reads but I enjoyed it immensely.

Those are great colors you’re crocheting. That zing of red!

I am glad you are going to have a warm up. It rained all day yesterday and was 40 degrees thus melting a lot of snow. Such a crazy winter, I hope spring is more normal.
The colors are so beautiful and inviting in Don’s afghan.

I look forward to hearing what you think of the Elly Griffin novel.

Love the colors too. Bill and I both have to wear ear plugs at night because we both snore! They really help us get our sleep. We watched the “State of the Swamp” the other night instead of SOTU. Was a great watch put on by Miles Taylor of Defiance.org. So many great speakers. Special guest was Robert DeNiro. I listen to two podcasts, Jim Acosta and Glenn Kirschner. That is all I can take of politics. Well, out to go do some gardening. Stay warm!

We use white noise machines. I can’t wear regular earplugs.

      Thanks so much, Deb.

    Hi Claudia,
It’s been a very challenging winter here in Toronto too. Weeks of Polar vortex frigid freezing temperatures. Still lots of frozen snow here too, but thank goodness we are now having days above 0 degrees Centigrade. I did grow up using the Fahrenheit system, but I have used the metric system for so long now lol.
I believe that you like good British TV. I don’t know if you have Britbox. I just finished watching an amazing series called Riot Women. It is so amazing and intricate, funny and also very upsetting in some scenes. I think you might enjoy it.
By the way, has Don every had a sleep study done?

Yes, I’m aware of that series, but am not currently subscribing to BritBox. I’ll most likely resubscribe when Gardener’s World returns and I’ll probably watch it then.

No to the sleep study. He doesn’t have sleep apnea.

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
