It is so frigging cold this morning, We’ve been dealing with frigid temperatures for over a week now and it looks like it will be continuing through February. I have about 3 layers on as I write this and I’m wearing fingerless gloves. The wind chills this morning have resulted in a dangerous cold weather warning from the National Weather Service.
We’ve already had to order more heating oil, which is quite expensive.
We work at it, but it’s real hard to stay positive these days.
I have been wondering if a brown scalp would look good on Harper. Her hair color is so distinctive that it sometimes limits how I can dress her. This ensemble is perfect for her of course, along with anything in red. Anyway…I was going to remove her scalp (which is usually easy as it’s just attached with a small screw) and at the same, remove Zoe’s dark brown scalp and switch them out just to see if I liked it better. Side note: a lot of Blythe collectors switch scalps or wigs on their girls all the time, but I really don’t.
Well, the screw was stripped and try as I might – and I did for a couple of hours – I couldn’t get that screw out of there. I remember that the young woman who sold her to me had tried several scalps on her so I imagine the stripped screw was a result of all of that. I posted on the Blythe feed asking for suggestions as to how to remove the screw. One suggestion involved buying a little kit and drilling into the screw. I didn’t want to do that because I was afraid I might damage the doll.
The next day, I had the thought that a tiny bit of vaseline around the screw might do the job. And, much to my surprise, it did. At the same time I was removing the screw, I was realizing that I really liked her hair the way it was. And I remember that young woman saying that after trying different scalps, she came to the conclusion that she looked the best in this one.
She was right.
She’s a Ferro Doll and that particular customizer does exquisite face ups. I can tell she took the hair color into account.
I decided to take a picture of her and just happened to plop her on this quilt which is on the sofa in the den.
Perfect!
That quilt was made by my grandmother and I had it on my bed in junior high and high school. I love it. Gram made her quilts very heavy so it’s perfect for cold winter nights.
I’m working on an inexpensive miniature piece. It came with the Beacon Hill and I’m painting it. It will get another coat today. I’m also looking at wallpaper for some of the rooms. I seem to either have an inspiration piece, like the sofa, that inspires the rest of the room, or I find a wallpaper pattern that inspires me.
I’d like this house to be elegant and cheery.

This winter has been unbelievably frigid no matter where you live. I have an electric throw that has been a good companion whenever I sit. Unfortunately, it makes me want to sit more which isn’t good.
In good news, our own Jimmy the Groundhog from Sun Prairie, just northeast of us, did not see his shadow. So….hope the early Spring prediction comes true.
I like Harper’s blue (turquoise) hair…it suits her. Although, I’m sure it makes it more difficult to dress her. Glad to hear you are continuing to work on the Beacon Hill. Enjoy your day! ;)

warmer here … 29 degrees so far. hopefully that heads your way. trail has some icy spots, courtesy of snow yesterday (more than a dusting, maybean inch). slowed the walk, but it’s pretty.

I’m pleased you decided, for now, to keep Harper’s blue hair. The hair gives her so much personality. I’m wondering if braiding her hair down her back and putting a hat on her would make the clothes styling easier?
I don’t think I would braid it. We’d lose the beautiful waves which are my favorite thing about her hair. I do love the style.

My friend is in Florida for her couple of months " let's get away from the cold vacation"; it is 30F there. I guess it's cold everywhere! Warmed up to 20F today here in NW CT. Woo hoo!

Hi Claudia, it’s cold here too. I know it’s been very cold when I “don’t mind” my morning walk when it is “only” 3 degrees out! I’m just getting so used to it now! But I look forward to it warming up soon….. maybe by March.
I hope you show the painted project you are working on. And I look forward to seeing the wallpaper selections too. I like the sound of elegant but cheerful, your rooms are always appealing anyway! And I like Harper as she is! I think our world has just gotten so used to being able to “change” the way they look…. dye jobs, surgery… why not be the way you are and just work with what you’ve got? ( Not meaning to offend anyone…. just my opinion!)
As for the toxicity of rump-hole and his gang of thieves…. how could anybody believe he wasn’t guilty as hell? And what about the prisoner dying in his cell during the previous term of the perp-in-chief? How come we never hear anything about that mystery? Thank you for saving the documents. I am sure a lot of people are quietly amassing all kinds of archives of the “deleted stuff”… copying whole systems onto private servers wherever possible. The trick isn’t keeping the info, it’s knowing how to find it …. wherever it ends up! Anyway it is always good to know we are not alone. Thank you for sharing your feelings here.
I hope you stay warm! My Mom knitted me fingerless gloves to wear at my former workplace on winter days…. bulky but effective! My sister is in eastern N. Carolina and just got a lot of snow…. and they are also low on heat and the deliveries are delayed because of the roads… It is a Hard winter!

Wouldn’t it be fun to have pretty blue hair like that? When I was a little girl old ladies got “rinses” that were blue and pink and lavender, I wanted to do that so badly. Now that I’m an old lady maybe it’s my chance. I’m looking forward to seeing your progress on the current doll house.

I wear little hand warmers packed inside my fingerless gloves as I type. It helps a lot.
I’m not a colorful hair person, so I would have loved to see her in brown or maybe reddish/auburn versus the green. But that’s just me!
I have 5 Blythes with fantasy hair colors and I’m okay with that.
I used those little hand warmers when we were filming outdoors on Spoiler Alert.
