Both of these photos were in Instagram yesterday, but since I shouldn’t assume that you saw them, I’ll share them with you.
I ended up taking the day off yesterday, since the actors are doing well and I felt I could give them a day off from my note taking. My stomach was acting up, a reaction not unexpected after the stress of losing Scout. I was tired and worn out and I just needed a quiet day. Knowing that I have to teach a Master Class this morning had something to do with it as well. I needed to rest so that I would be able to function at my best today.
When I shared that decision with Don, he sort of hesitated and when I asked why, it turned out he had sent me flowers which would be waiting for me at the theater box office. So I bundled up and ran over there to pick them up.
They’re beautiful. He asked the florist to include one white rose (which you can’t see in this photo.) We exchanged a single white rose on our wedding day.
The afternoon light prompted me to take this photo:
“Still Life with Roseville.”
I like the way the texture of the green leaves is echoed in the background texture on the Roseville vase. I didn’t plan it that way, it just is.
I’m off to get ready for my class.
Beautiful flowers – enjoy!
I will, Melanie. Thank you.
Wow, what beautiful flowers in the middle of a snowy cold day! Enjoy, and Happy Valentines Day.
Thank you, Dana. Same to you.
Yes, they are beautiful.
I love the variety.
Take care, Monica
Thank you, Monica.
Gorgeous flowers Claudia – so lovely. Hope you are managing to stay warm. Once again this is the craziest winter ever! We are expecting snow/sleet today and it is still bitter cold – in the teens (which is better than the weekend). But tomorrow? Temps in the 50’s and rain in the forecast. It’s a wonder we aren’t all sick with colds, etc. Hope your class goes well today.
Same here. Crazy weather!
What a beautiful bouquet! I hope it lifted your spirits.
It did, Sharon.
Beautiful flowers and such a sweet man you have. So glad you took some time off. The stress and sadness take a toll on our bodies as well. I know your Master Class will be awesome. Sending big hugs to you.
Linda
Thank you, Linda. Just got back and now, I’m exhausted!
The flowers are beautiful always needed.
Thank you, Patricia.
Your bouquet of flowers from Don is gorgeous. Enjoy your teaching day! ;)
Thank you, Donnamae.
The flowers are just beautiful, many ((hugs)) to you and Don, try and stay warm, its snowing again here in Maryland, oh boy I keep telling myself spring is on its way!
It’s snowing here, too. Thanks, Nancy.
It has been absolutely stupid cold here. We are hearing 50* by Friday, but I don’t believe that for a moment.
The flowers are beautiful. Hope your day goes well today and that you have fun. That is when those magical moments of teaching occur.
The coldest I ever remember here, Chris. Unbearable.
Beautiful flowers from Don! xx
Thank you, Amy.
Beautiful flowers from Don. You are a very talented lady having a talent career.
I am sure this lifted your spirit the flowers.
Thanks, Carolann.
Sending hugs from a cold and icy North Carolina.
Mary X
Thank you, Mary. Cold and snowy and sleety here.
Claudia, I am sorry for the loss of you sweet Scout. You and Don have had a tough year. I hope you can have some time together soon. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
Thank you, Susie.
Ah, Don; he’s a romantic! They’re lovely flowers.
I think it was a wise decision to get out of that cold, take some time for yourself, sort of get re-centered as much as humanly possible considering everything you’ve got going on. Try to rest the mind; try to rest your body. Emotion is fatiguing. And you’ve had a lot of activity.
Not saying this to be mean, for anyone, but we are 92 degrees, before noon. It’s a day off for some people, but nobody’s out in it, even the kids home from school. I hate it. It’s ruining the good effect of our two rains (only two of significance, really); we don’t know if we’ll get anymore measurable rain and the creek has already dried up again. The city re-posted our SoCalif drought restrictions this week. Northern California has had more precipitation; Southern Calif hasn’t been so lucky.
The wind is blowing very hard, it’s very dry and very hot. Those singers/celebs lined up on the red carpet from about 3pm PST for the Grammys award show tonight are going to be boiling in that heat/sun in L.A. (I understand the remaining Eagles will do a singing tribute with Jackson Brown in memory of Glenn Frey; I’m thinking it’s the last time we’ll see them together, as I doubt they’ll go on without him as it just wouldn’t be right; I still can’t believe he’s gone…). Anyway, I continue to be stymied…not the right word…or blown away by the vastness of our U.S., that one coast from the other can be at such extreme weather points in a year. You are having record-breaking cold; we are having record-breaking heat. I think to myself, “Is our country, our land mass…our climate zones…THAT disparate? THAT big?” I guess.
I hope your Master’s class went well. Tell us more how it went and what you did; how big was attendance? I think it’s incredible that you can do that; that you can hold up for these challenges right now. Feel proud, Claudia. But, oh wow, I do think you’re going to need some healing rest once you get back to the cottage. It’ll be sad, but you need to get home. Then, before you know it, with the way time flies, you’re going to be clearing brush, watching your flowers bloom again; busy with gardening and your beautiful property. Spring is such a hopeful thing.
We have tulips forcing. Can’t wait to see them. I hope they don’t get scorched. Looking forward to flowers just makes me feel so happy. If I feel…when I feel…crappy, I’m so grateful to be able to walk out my door and see some kind of plant. I think it’s great that in the dark of winter, you have plants indoors that you’ve brought in that still give you some green and, better, come color. And when all else fails, get a bouquet from the thoughtful husband…
(I read an interesting web article about what it is for Northeastern florists to be delivering Valentine’s flowers and not have them freeze in blizzard-y weather…how they double-wrap them, etc. This is stuff we in SoCalif never think about…with us, it’s how soon they’ll wilt from heat and to just hope somebody answers the door so that an arrangement doesn’t get left out on somebody’s hot front porch.)
Thinking of you and Don as always these days…healing thoughts…
Yes, I was afraid the flowers would freeze as I was carrying them back home. I’ll be watching the Eagles tonight, Vicki.
How sweet of Don – but then, I’m not really surprised. He is such a kind hearted person and I know how hard it must be for you all to be apart during this time of adjustment. Hope your class went well. You are so talented. When do you go home?
Thinking of you.
Judy
I go home on Saturday, after opening night on Friday, Judy.
Your fowers are beautiful. I love the sentiment of the white rose.
Hope your class went well, and that you are finding time to rest. If the warmer weather moves your way, perhaps a little outside time will be in your future.
Maybe, but there’s only about 4 more days left in Hartford, Sue. And they’ll be busy.
Gorgeous flowers from Don…and how sweet of him to add the rose…Cold here with snow today and ice tonight…Please Mother Nature…send back the warm…
Same here. The entire weekend, as well as today has been about as cold as I can ever remember. Tomorrow – in the fifties.
What a beautiful bouquet! It’s pretty but not stiff or formal. This bouquet is warm, friendly, welcoming and full of such charming daisies. Your Don is a very sweet and thoughtful man. You chose the perfect companion to hold hands with forever.
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
I did. Thank goodness, I chose wisely!
I love the fact that Don added the one white rose to the beautiful arrangement. How thoughtful and romantic!
Stay warm and well…
xo
Sheila
Thank you, Sheila.
