Queen Anne’s Lace grew everywhere in my neighborhood when I was little girl. I don’t think I really appreciated the delicate beauty of this flower until recently. It was a weed, everyone said. Weed: implying bothersome, something to be yanked out of the ground. Thank goodness I’m older and somewhat wiser. This is a flower. It graces us with its presence in fields, at the side of a road or, in my case, under the shade of the catalpa tree.
Thank you so much for your wonderful suggestions about the table. What varied responses! I heard from some new (to me) readers, too. It seems most of you are pro painting. Some suggested just painting the legs and leaving the top dark, some suggested different colors….I’ve read them all and now I am in the process of ‘pondering.’ As I sit in my blogging chair, I can see it in the kitchen. I stare at it. A lot.
It’s too hot to paint at the moment – which gives me a little more time to consider all my options.
I received packages from two of my friends this week. I met both of them through blogging. First was a box from my wonderful friend, Brenda of Cozy Little House. She was cleaning out her linen closet and found a few things she thought I’d like. And she threw in a book, too.
Beautiful pillow cases, some crochet and a pretty book. Thank you, Brenda!
Ann Marie of Frog Hollow Farm Girl wrote me a note when I was posting my embroidery for the Stitchalong and asked me if I would be interested in some of her late mother’s embroidery supplies. I was so touched and honored that she would want to share something so precious to her Mom with me. I received two packages yesterday.
Also included were some neat metallic yarns and a note from Ann Marie. What a special note this was: she told me the story of her mother, Lilly, who was born in Ireland and trained as a nurse and midwife. She eventually sailed to the United States and met Ann Marie’s father Anthony and became an American citizen in the 70’s. Lilly passed along her love of cooking, gardening, reading and entertaining to Ann Marie.
I know how much Ann Marie misses her mother and I am moved beyond measure at this lovely gift. Thank you, Ann Marie.
How blessed am I by the wonderful friends I have met through this little blog!

Claudia, I thought of you the other evening when I was going through some of my daughters’ childhood toys. I found a koala that looks brand new. I really don’t remember the girls having this bear. Would you want it? I know several people sent you some koala things and I wasn’t sure if you would want more. You are such a good friend that people just want to do stuff for you!

Good Morning Claudia Sweetie…
Oh my goodness what treasures you have received today. I am so tickled for you sweetie.
I love the blue crochet on the pillowcases. That is just stunning. Someone took a lot of time to do that. Interesting looking book.
My goodness sweetie you have lots of embroidery thread now. How is your project coming a long? I would love to see how many squares you have completed now?
And your Queen Anne’s Lace. I have to ask you. Could you send me some seeds from yours to start a grouping of my own? I love it. Weed or not. It is just gorgeous.
Have a beautiful day sweet friend. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

Your Queen Anne’s Lace is so pretty. I always look for it when driving here on country roads. Would I get in trouble if I dug some up? Probably. The gifts from your friends are so sweet. Perhaps you will inspire me to take up hand sewing again as I used to do it many years ago. It is very soothing. Blessings dear one…olive

Oh, Claudia… I hear you on the ‘too hot to paint’. I want to paint my kitchen, at least one wall and just can’t do it until it cools down enough to allow us to open the windows. Heading to a balmy 93 degrees today.
Keep staring at the table… something will come to you, and remember, it’s just paint and can always be changed if you don’t like it.

I adore Queen’s Anne Lace! It is ironic that it is one person’s weed, and another person’s favorite flower!

Queen Ann’s Lace is one of the few flowers I knew as a child. I loved it then, and was puzzled when told it was “just a weed”…..it wasn’t to me, it belonged to a Queen after all!
Lilacs, roses, violets and forsythia were the others that I knew….and loved.
What kind and generous blogger friends you have Claudia!
Hugs,
Terri

Hi Claudia:
Queen Anne’s Lace is my favorite wildflower. I wish I’d seen some to photograph on my last trip to Wisconsin, but I never saw any, even though I looked for it. ;-(
Hope you don’t mind if I pull your photo to my desktop so I can look at it and dream.

hi claudia,
i can just picture you in your blogging chair staring at that table. remember i know where you blog from! i do that too. when i want to change something, i’ll just sit and stare at it.
the queens anne lace reminds me of a flower that i took for granted as a child. i grew up along the southern california coast and hydrangeas were everywhere. they grew like hedges seperating peoples property. now we live inland and they are very difficult to grow. i would love a hedge of them now!

I can’t wait to see your next embroidery/crewel work project!! After reading your post, one of your blogger friends took the time to stop by my blog and leave a sweet comment -it was a lovely surprise!
Queen Anne’s Lace – it adds such an elegant quality to a bouquet of flowers – I love finding them in the field and including them with my cut flowers. Ciao, bella!

Hi Claudia,
Such special gifts to behold. What will you make with the stitching yarn? I will look forward to seeing what you come up with. Your table is a charmer, so I’m a little late in throwing in my two cents in, but I would paint it the same as your kitchen island (love your kitchen). I know its been a while since I left you a note. I have been moving and then was without internet for a while..
I am back now and trying to catch up with everyone.
Have a sweet day, hugs Elizabeth

HI Claudia! Queen Anne’s lace is one of the most beautiful “weeds” I grow in my yard. I have a few stems in a vase in my kitchen right now! It makes a mess when the seeds (is that what they are?) start falling, but I don’t care! Linda
