I finally bought a couple of calibrachoa plants to put in this urn, which had been sitting on the porch filled with nothing but dry old soil. There were very few plants left at the nursery, but this pink color seemed just right.
I used my new weed trimmer yesterday and it’s looking much better around here. You know I always say the we live ”on the edge of wild” – so I have to keep after all the weeds that appear near the edges of garden beds and stepping stones and the funky patio and…
Then I decided to mow the corral which soon turned into mowing the back forty. All of this took place fairly early in the morning, but not too early for the sound of the weed trimmer to disturb our neighbors. I knew it was going to be very hot and humid later in the day. All of the weed trimming and mowing was completed by 11 am. Today we have rain – a nice gentle rain that sounds lovely as I sit here writing this post. The temperatures will be back down in the high seventies and low eighties.
I’m writing this very early as I have a zoom meeting at 9 am, which means I have to get going earlier than usual.
Wren was the subject of yesterday’s photo session. Something, I’m not sure what, has piqued their interest.
I do love staging these little scenes. I suppose it’s like the theater in a way. Makes sense! And it’s sure nice to be able to shoot photographs outdoors.
We’re watching Borgen every night. It’s on Netflix. It’s a Danish series about politics, which I would normally avoid, but this series is so gripping and well done on every level, that it’s as compelling as a crime show or mystery. The original series ran for 3 seasons. A newer edition of Borgen is also now available.
And that’s it for today, my friends.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

rain sounds nice … and a reason to rest today! how long does all that mowing and gardening take you?
hope the zoom meeting went well. i am sure it did as you are tech-y (i am not)!
thanks for the tip about borgen.
the flowers are beautiful … one of your many gifts (i love them, but am not good with plants).
and wren is sweet. new cat at mhc?
i’ve been thinking about how i could rearrange my living room. no other great options given three doors on three walls and baseboard radiators along two walls in a narrow room. also, i’m not willing to get rid of my furniture (most pieces are family gifts/ history) so will make the current arrangement work (it’s good … i am just in a time of change and doing a big clean-out). anyway, i have a lot of art and not enough wall space to display it all at once. yesterday i was looking at the art being stored (becausethat’seasier to change), picked out a favorite piece, made a paper template and tried it in a few spaces … and found a way to have it where i can see it every day. :) love doing things like that. also starting cross-stitch projects to make for my family (hoping they will all be done for Christmas). grateful for more time to do such things.
hope you are all having a nice day. stay safe.

Yay for figuring out the art hanging situation, Kathy. That’s a Boston Terrier in the photo.
Mowing and gardening takes a lot of time. Mowing the back forty and the corral was about an hour or so.
Mowing the entire property? 3 hours.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Vicki says
Wren may be my favorite; she’s the littlest of the girls, right?
Claudia says
She is. She’s a resin BJD doll, not a Blythe doll. BJD – ball-jointed doll.
She’s designed by an artist in China. Her dolls are unbelievably charming.
Stay safe, Vicki.

For the sake of my blood pressure, I’ve avoided going online much the last few days since the awful court decisions. But I had to catch up with your lovely pictures and read what you’re up to. And your little well-dressed ladies too. Today marks the second day in a row of sunny, seventies weather here. Perfect.
I’ve been weeding too, knowing that by late July and August, I throw in the towel once the 90’s and the humidity is here to stay. That may come earlier this year. We had so much rain in May and June that there’s a bumper crop of mosquitoes out there who think I taste wonderful.
Saw two Monarchs flitting around my milk weed patch near the front porch this morning. I put more effort into fixing up a sitting area on the porch this year. Usually, we tend to sit on the back patio, but it’s nice to see the neighbors, the dog walkers and watch kids I’ve known since toddlerhood play. I love reading out there and co-existed nicely with a house finch who built a nest in the clematis lattice. Mama Finch abandoned it once her babies flew away and recently a robin commandeered it. Mama Robin isn’t so tolerant and gets very angry when I sit out there now. Very! So, back to the patio. Oh, well, as probably the oldest person on this part of the block of young families I was beginning to feel a bit like Mrs. DuBose in “To Kill a Mockingbird” minus the Confederate pistol.
Take care.
Kay

I throw in the towel in August, too. I’ll weed some more tomorrow after the rain ends.
Oh, Mrs. DuBose! Very funny! Love, love her. That’s how I feel sometimes on my porch, too!
Stay safe, Kay.

I love power tools! They give me more time to do the fiddly bits of gardening that I enjoy so much more. But I will say that I truly appreciate neighbors who limit the noise to appropriate times of the day–as do I in return.
That hedgehog! I’ve been trying to paint one, but I can’t seem to capture their sweetness and their prickly texture at the same time.
The six sections of our back fence that failed in our spring “breezes” are now sturdily fixed, thanks to the son who lives local. But our water heater failed this weekend. Funny how much you take hot water for granted. Today will be spent keeping the puppy from further mischief (a fairly hopeless task) while we wait for the plumber.
Summer temps here, but thankfully the Sierra doesn’t have humidity! Time for a cold drink and a good book.
Claudia says
So sorry about your hot water, Roxie! I hope it has been restored by now.
Stay safe!

1 pm, Kathy. Congress is on recess, so if they’re scheduling a session for tomorrow, there must be something time-sensitive – some sort of blockbuster.

thanks, claudia. will be watching!

Your urn looks lovely. I need to replace several red geraniums in my front pots…the chipmunks have gotten to them….grrrr.
I love Wren’s outfit…..she looks ready for some sort of adventure with her dog. Does the dog have a name?
Heard about the hearing tomorrow…wonder what that’s all about? Enjoy your evening! ;)
Claudia says
No name for the dog yet. I can only remember so many names!
Can’t wait for the hearing. Cassidy Hutchinson, I believe? I don’t think I spelled her name correctly. Assistant to Trump and Mark Meadows. Get your popcorn ready!
Stay safe, Donnamae.

Also love Wren’s little pull-along hedgehog!
I have watched Borgen several years ago and agree it’s excellent. Its writer has written another drama called Rider upon the Storm about a modern day family of married priests in the Church of Denmark. Again, much better than it sounds. Like Borgen, it was on main tv in the UK so I hope you can find it.
We have a lot of Scandinavian drama series shown. Another was The Investigation telling the true story of the murder of journalist Kim Wall and so sensitively done. Both series have actors you will recognise from The Killing!
Happy Monday
Claudia says
Thanks for the information on the other series, Dee Dee. We’ll keep our eye out for it.
Stay safe!

It sounds like you got the mowing done just in time! And you’re right about staging the girls — it is like a little theatre production — and just delightful to see!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Jeanie!
