Flowers, Shakespeare, Storms and China

August 3, 2017 at 8:40 am by Claudia

Now, doesn’t that put a smile on your face?

Act Two: check. Act Three today.

I managed to mow the front lawn and the corral amidst sounds of thunder before this rolled in:

This was seriously stormy weather, with lightning and really loud cracks of thunder. It came and departed pretty quickly, however, and gave my gardens some much-needed rain. More on the way tomorrow and Saturday.

As per usual lately, there’s too much to do and too little time to do it in! As I sit here drinking my coffee, I’m a tad overwhelmed by it all. But I’ll make my lists and have at it.

I forgot to show you this. I glued the pieces together the other day. The stray piece doesn’t fit yet, so I’m waiting for the discovery of more pieces so that this little guy has a home.

Sigh. The garden is so pretty right now. I’m really loving it. And the scent of the phlox is quite intense.

Coneflowers, phlox, bee balm – the perfect plants for a cottage garden.

My friends Rick and Doug sold their house in San Diego in four days. They’re moving out here by the end of October.

We can’t stand it, we’re so excited! One of my oldest, dearest friends is going to live only a few miles away. Truth is stranger than fiction.

Happy Thursday.

Your lovely flowers are a feast for the eyes Claudia. After two whole days of gloomy, rainy weather it’s a relief to see sunshine flooding our yard today. We had a huge oak cut down a few weeks ago and just about have the yard back to normal. Hope you have a lovely day.

Coneflowers are lovely—did you plant them from seed or did they predate you at the cottage?
I think I may need some around here. We are overrun with queen Anne’s lace this year and have just let it run wild.

I planted them all, but not from seed. I bought them over the years at the nursery and they have self-seeded very nicely – so now, they’re all over the place! We have a lot of Queen Anne’s lace this year as well. I really love it.

Love all the flowers in your garden. Do you need to deadhead a lot? How long will you be in Hartford? Real estate is incredibly crazy in California. Even a fixer upper gets caught in a bidding war.

No, I don’t do a lot of deadheading.

I’ll be in Hartford for the usual five weeks.

Love all the flowers. My limelights are doing extremely well this year. I am so pleased….I think it must be due to all the rain we’ve been having. A cool front is coming through…tomorrow’s high…66! Hope it won’t last long…that’s sweater weather! ;)

What a pretty china pattern! Would be gorgeous with dark green napkins & white cutwork placemats for Christmas. And a table lit ONLY by candles. Uh-oh, the bridal registry consultant in me rears its head again – LOL. I guess I’ll find out where the china came from when I finish getting caught up on your posts. Oh, how did you make out with the grease situation? 😎

I found it in our corral, emerging from the ground. We’ve found several little things there before, from when people buried their trash. This was in three large pieces, two small and I’ve since found out (via a reader who found the pattern) that it’s a transferware pattern that was made in the 1830s. Thrilled, of course! Made by Enoch Wood & Sons. The post identifying it was just a week or so ago.

Had a try at the grease again today. Still sticky.

Won’t it be fun as you find the pieces to make that plate a whole again? Hope that they all do show themselves as time goes on. Have a good Thursday!!

I do, too. Every time I go by that area of the yard, I hope I see something emerging from the ground!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
