Foggy Friday

August 28, 2015 at 8:21 am by Claudia

8-27 foggy morning

Cooler nights and a foggy morning; signs that Autumn is just around the corner. There’s something wonderfully mysterious and cocoon-like about a foggy morning, don’t you think?

It’s starting to burn off as the sun takes over.

Re-entry time. After five days in Florida, two days on the road, and over 1200 miles added to the odometer, I was at sixes and sevens yesterday. Tired. Happy to be home. Worried about Scout. I decided to do  something, so I mowed part of the front lawn and pulled some weeds.

I spoke to Little Z last night when he called us to say “I pooped in the potty!” and “I’m taking a bath!” We made the appropriate cheering noises and told him how proud we were of him. When I was visiting, I was right there on the scene when another successful potty session occurred. Nothing makes me happier than to hear him say “I did  it!” when he uses his walker, or walks with his canes, or navigates the potty, or masters something or other. He is a joyful fighter and is fiercely intelligent. He is a hero.

I miss him so much it hurts.

8-27 car

The silver fox that made a 1200+ mile journey. Smooth as silk, very comfortable, and such a blessing for us.

I have a list of things to do today. One of them is to rinse off all the seashells gathered on our morning walk at the beach. I’m thinking this newest group of seashells would look nice in a glass container on our den bookshelves.

What else? I just finished The Tourist  by Olen Steinhauer and am ready to start The English Spy  by Daniel Silva. The Tourist was simply superb, by the way. Steinhauer is a master of the spy novel. He joins Graham Greene and John LeCarré as one of the best at writing that kind of secretive, maze-like plot. If you’re at all interested in that kind of thriller, I highly recommend his books. Happily, he’s written even more books that I have yet to read. Huzzah!

Happy Friday.

It is always good to be home again. Yay for another car, I know it will help you so much, silver fox love it! (is that a Honda?) I love my Honda CRV as it will last a long long time. ANYWAY…proud of little Z he is such a sweet child and so brave and fiesty. I hope Scout is feeling better. It’s a gloomy day here and it’s going to be a long one for me. Babysit, then Mom to the Dr and the grocery store. At least I have the weekend to rest and do some things around my house (I hope).
    Big hugs to you,
    Linda

      It’s a Honda Accord and our other car is a 2001 Honda CR-V. I guess we’re a Honda family!

    Hi Claudia,

Welcome home! It’s so hard to leave family; the bond is like no other. Thank goodness for texting, email and Skype! Little Z is precious, and I can tell he adds so much joy to your lives. I, for one, am glad you’re back. I felt like one of my friends was out of reach for a bit. Have a wonderful day!

Nice car…generous gift! Your Honda will last forever so I’ve been told…my guys are car guys! Little Z is precious indeed…and everyone of those milestones are important! The Internet is a wonderful way for families to stay in touch…it’s almost like you are right there…almost. We’ve been enjoying cool weather this week…but next week looks to be hot and miserable again. It’ll be a good week to stay in and read…thanks for the suggestions! ;)

I absolutely loved my Honda Accord, but sadly, after many many miles, the cost of upkeep far outweighed keeping it. But now, I absolutely love my Prius. Glad you are slowly acclimating to home. Puttering seems to be my re-entry activity too. You’ll get into the swing of home today. Off to piano lesson…

I have a 14 year old Honda CR-V that’s still hanging in there, and I had a Civic that was a workhorse, so I’m a big Honda fan. Would love a Prius, but they’re too much money for us right now.

We bought our Prius so my husband’s commute would be cut from 1-3/4 to 2 hours each way to 1 hour or so each way, when the Prius was eligible for a commuter sticker that allowed my husband to drive in the HOV lane as a single. Our model Prius is no longer eligible in California for HOV lanes. But, no more commuting, so that doesn’t affect me. The Prius is a workhorse. I lucked out with a good one, as I have friends who have had to replace the battery, very expensive. I’m going on 150,000 miles and the ol’ girl got straight A’s at the 150,000 check-up.

I have friends who own a Prius – several of them – and they love them. I have heard that the battery is expensive, but the environmental impact is so positive that it’s worth it.

It does feel as though Fall is just around the corner. I’m loving the cooler mornings and evenings. Days are bright, but not as oppressive as they had been. The Silver Fox looks great and I’m sure it will be a huge help to you and Don. And Little Buddy – a joyful fighter — love that description of him. Enjoy your weekend Claudia. I hope Dame Scout is doing a bit better.

I just said yesterday that I can feel Autumn in the air….It’s so good to know that you and Don have a second vehicle to rely on…and a good brand too…Little Z is indeed “a joyful fighter..every time a see a picture of him with that big beautiful smile of his I get one too…I thank him for that…I guess smiles really are contagious…That is a nice idea for the shells you gathered…I have something similar that I did with pretty shells and beach pebbles from a trip my son and I took when he was little…It is sill a treasure to me as it also holds my memories…All I have to do is sit back and look at the glass jar and they all come back to me…May you find the same with yours…

I ended up mowing some more and pulling more weeds and weed whacking. Too much! Now, I’m exhausted! Sea Shell sorting will be tomorrow.

So happy you are home with your family, Claudia. It looks like a lovely car your dad gave you. We still have my dad’s old Ford pickup truck. My husband drives that. And my car, like your old one, is a 2001 that spends much time in the shop, I’m afraid. Other than that I absolutely love it (a Mazda Tribute, which is actually identical to a Ford Escape, and is in fact made by Ford). Thank you for your condolences on our Tiger. What a big void has been left in the studio/office by such a small little girl.

We have had very few rainy days this summer. Having one today, and it is amazing how much we have accomplished during these rainy hours!! And we surely do need the rain. Bonus!
The new ride is beautiful and I am sure there are many many miles to enjoy it ahead. Little Z is also a treasure. Glad there is Skype and FaceTime so you can keep in contact with frequent visits that way. Happiest news is that sweet Scout perked up a bit. Her pack is back together, and I’m sure that makes her quite happy. :-)

Your fog looks like the smoke we have herein the northwest. Unfortunately ours isn’t disappearing anytime soon. I had a Honda Accord that I just loved. I cried when we traded it in for the CRV (because of health reasons I could no longer get out of a low car without falling.). I’ve had my CRV for 5 years now and like it just as well. I can’t imagine not owning a Honda now. Glad your home and getting reacquainted with everything there. Little Z is something else isn’t he? I just adore his face and we’ve never even met.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

I loved the CR-V and I love the Accord. And I loved my Civic Hatchback that I bought when I moved to San Diego. Hondas are the best, Betsy!

Little Z is a magical, wonder-filled boy and I miss him so much!

Happy you made your trip safely home again! Any trip over two hours for me is challenging…ok sometimes a ten minute drive to the other side of our city of 125,000 is a challenge! Nice car, so thoughtful of your father.

My grandkids live in Texas so I know how you feel missing them. We Facetime all the time and if it wasn’t for that, I’d go crazy! My grandson Cayden was a micro preemie, and each thing he accomplishes is cause for celebration. He’s 6 now, just started first grade and lost his first tooth. He Facetimed me this morning to show me what the Tooth Fairy left and told me that he saw her and she had glasses just like mine. It was nice to know that he saw an element of me in the Tooth Fairy. He weighed 5.9 ounces when born….the link above is about his journey.
    Congrats on the car!

I’ve got a niece (my middle sister’s child) who was 1 lb 9 oz. ounces when she was born. She somehow made it and she just had her first child this year. Miracles happen every day.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
