Years ago, a reader of the blog sent me some forget-me-not seeds to sow after I lost both of my parents. I planted them in one of the beds. And now, years later, they are no longer in that bed, but they pop up all over the funky patio area and on the borders of some of the other beds. I love that. They’re sweet little flowers. Hi, Mom and Dad!
I am beat! While Don was out running numerous errands for us, including grocery shopping, I mowed the larger part of the front lawn and the secret garden. The usual bodily responses on my part: tired, sore, and allergy ridden. I’ve been ordered by my husband to take it easy today and he will get no argument from me. I’m glad it’s done, I love mowing. But gosh darn it, I’m on my way to 74 and it’s a lot of work. All I’ll do today in terms of the outdoors is water the porch plants.
I’m finally getting into The Black Wolf. The delay in all of this is not due to Louise Penny. Rather, it’s my inability to concentrate on reading. I have ideas in my head about the dollhouse, I have a lot of work to do outside, and then there’s the debacle that is everything Agent Orange. Thankfully, I’ve reached a point where it’s hooked me, so I plan on doing some reading today, as well.
The wallpaper is on the way! I sent another message to the owner yesterday – no response – but then, at around 5 pm I got a tracking message saying it had left the post office and was on its way. Delivery is supposed to be on Tuesday. Now, I’m worried I’ll screw something up when I’m wallpapering and I’m also wondering why I didn’t order one extra sheet of each design. Ah, well. I am going to have to give myself a talking to: You can do it. You can do it.
It’s very cool today – in the 60s – it almost feels like a seasonal change. But it’s temporary. It will go back to the 70s and 80s next week.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Glad you are taking a day to read and relax.
Thank you, Ellen.
Stay safe.
Yes, you CAN do it! I’m so glad the paper is in transit. What a relief that it will finally be here soon.
I thought Black Wolf was very good but it took awhile for me to really get into it. And once I did, I had a hard time putting it down. Rick is finding the same thing. You won’t be disappointed in it. Did I tell you that Rick was at Louise’s cafe beneath the bookstore in Knowlton last summer and was standing beside her (or close) in the line — and didn’t recognize her till it was too late to say hello? But he brought me back a couple of nice memories from the bookstore. (It’s hard to pack much in a bicycle panier when it’s full for what you’ll need on the road for a month of camping and riding, but the Three Pines key chain is my daily companion and there was also an autographed book plate. Now I want to go!
How neat that he was there! I met her years ago in NYC at a book signing. I’d post the photo of the two of us, but I look so much younger that it depresses me! I’d love to go there, too, and it’s actually not that far from us!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
It’s cool here today, too. And, we’ve flung the windows open and are sitting here shivering in the refreshing breeze lol. I love having the windows open…and listening to the birdsong. And, the woodpeckers are quite busy this morning. It’s such a great way to start the day.
Hope you can rest up properly today. The Black Wolf sounds like a great place to start. Enjoy your day! ;)
It’s very breezy here, as well. Just went out to water the plants. Still in my jammies sipping my second cup of coffee.
Thanks, Donnamae.
Stay safe.
2nd cups of coffee and jammies are perfect for relaxing mornings! ;)
xo
i’m glad you agree with don about taking a rest … you did a lot of yard work yesterday! a new book by a favorite author sounds like a nice place to start.
happy to hear the wallpaper is finally on its way to you. i bought something that’s supposed to arrive today. hope so … it’s a book about one of my favorite artists, james castle, and i want to just sit and enjoy it. might knit, too (already fed earl and the birds, cleaned the garage, took a nice long walk). plus it’s lightly raining right now. :)
happy, safe saturday to everyone.
kathy
Have a lovely time with your new book. And I know you love the rain.
Thanks, Kathy.
Stay safe.
Have a lovely relaxing day reading, Claudia. Pleased the wallpaper will arrive soon.
The mini-renovation is mostly done and I’m just waiting for a bookcase to be constructed and installed on the wall where I had the crew remove my fireplace. Strict regulations about what and when to burn, asthma attacks occurring whatever we burn, and need for more storage made my decision to have it removed. I anticipate in two weeks time I’ll be happily busy, restoring the house to order and moving things onto the bookcase. The best thing will be moving the kitty litter boxes into the base cabinet to get them out of the way. After renovating my half-bath last year, I was reluctant to have those live in there again.
Today is our usual Saturday spent with my 98-yo Mom. The choice of outings on which we can bring her have widened considerably now that she’s agreed to sit in a wheelchair. She can only walk about a block using the walker.
Enjoy the miniatures ideas running through your head and anticipating the wallpaper. Geez, it’s like waiting for things from England…packages from my Cornish friends can also be caught up at one transfer point or another, and transit slowed down.
Bless your mom, Wendy!
Glad your renovation is winding down – I bet you’ll enjoy that bookcase!
Stay safe.
Forget-me-nots are a favorite of mine, too. We had them in abundance at the lake, so that’s my bittersweet memory when I see them. I’m also watching the mail for some earrings I ordered. Happy Saturday.
I bet you miss the lake at this time of year.
I still miss my family’s cottage at the lake, all these years later.
Stay safe, Shanna.
Glad to see that your wallpaper is finally on its way! I was given forget me nots at my friend’s funeral a few months ago, it’s a lovely idea.
Have spent most of today sorting out my garden as the weather was just right and most importantly, not raining.
My son and his partner came over to demolish my old greenhouse which was beyond repair. It had been my Dad’s and he passed away 12 years ago. I was lucky enough to win through my trade union’s lottery last year enough to buy a metal/perspex windows build your own version.
He is coming back tomorrow to finish it off.
Regarding Louise Penny, I thought I saw a new book of hers on my trolley waiting to be put into stock. Has she co-authored with another woman?
Happy Saturday
Yes, she has. I don’t know much about it, but I did see that it was about to be published.
My dream has always been to have a greenhouse. Maybe in my next life!
Stay safe, Dee Dee.
The forget-me-nots are so sweet. Isn’t it funny how sometimes you love working on a project and sometimes you don’t.
Enjoy your beautiful summer flowers.
Thanks so much, Kay.
Stay safe.
Forget-Me-Nots are so very sweet and such a pretty shade of blue. Blue flowers of any kind are my very favourite. Hope you’ve had a very peaceful, quiet day. Hugs, Elaine
Thank you, Elaine.
