Said goodbye for another year to the Christmas tree yesterday. This one had a good run – all the way to January 18th. But it was time and as Don is now focused on the move to NYC, he was fine with it.
I did loads of laundry yesterday in an effort to clean everything Don might want to pack.
I also ate my fair share of chocolate chip cookies, which seem to be at their tastiest at the exact time I should be eating a healthy breakfast.
We had dinner with Rick and Doug last night. They’ve just moved their furniture into their NYC pied-à-terre, which is a studio apartment. Now they’re back here and we’re about to move Don’s stuff into our pied-à-terre. Turns out the apartments are about 10 blocks apart. As always seems to be the case with me in the winter, I did not look forward into trucking to a neighboring town in the cold weather, but once we got there, the conversation was stimulating and fun and I felt much better for going.
Today is about packing things up, recycling, running last minute errands and generally preparing for the trip into the city tomorrow morning.
I can’t wait to choose some plants for Don’s apartment. Easy care, of course. I’ve been itching to buy some more plants but it’s been so cold here I didn’t want to shock a plant by moving it from a warm building to the freezing outdoors. This weekend will be warmer, both here and in the city, so we should be able to find something for him.
The apartment is furnished and from what we could see in the photos, it’s furnished rather nicely. Don will take along a few things to add to the ambience, but I think we will just add plants this weekend and see what happens as we get used to the space.
Let’s hope our government doesn’t shut down at the end of the day. Since it is controlled by Republicans, all this twaddle about it being up to the Democrats is ridiculous. They have the power. I’m convinced man-child wants it to shut down for the drama of it and as an effort to deflect from the increasingly damning facts about his administration and their ties to Russia, before and after the election.
I’ll refrain from dwelling on payoffs to porn stars.
Happy Friday.

It sounds like so much fun to have a NYC apartment! Enjoy the weekend!
Claudia says
Thinking of you today, Linda! Sending healing thoughts your way.

How exciting to be able to put your (and Don’s) personal mark on the NY place. I’m thinking too this weekend is the time to go to the nursery – 40-plus degrees. Can never have too many green things growing in the house mid-winter.
Claudia says
Exactly! I’m of the same mind!
shanna says
Ugh. The daily news report has turned into a daily episode of the Maury Povitch show. Our tabloid life. Disgusting.
I hope your move into the city goes without a hitch. I envy your pied-a-terre life there.
Claudia says
I know. Sordid. The whole administration is sordid, but this crap takes it to a new level.
Thanks, Shanna!
karen says
Table envy. Just the right amount of patina.
Enjoy the move. The time will fly by.
Claudia says
Thank you, Karen!
Donnamae says
Shanna’s right….we are living in a tabloid. On a more positive note…I’m looking forward to seeing pics of your pied-a-terre….there will be pics I trust? Have fun tomorrow….at least the weather is cooperating for a few days! ;)
Claudia says
There will be pics at some point!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Move IS a 4-letter word, but it sounds like this one won’t be too hard. That is wonderful. The weather seems to be cooperating, too. We will be thinking about you!!
I’m pretty sure the gov’t WON’T shut down, because Trump said if it does, he won’t be able to go to Florida for the weekend. Awwwwwww. They will weave some worn threads together and then we can go through it all over again in a month. Stupid is as stupid does.
Hope your day and the packing goes well. We are looking forward to pictures!!
Claudia says
I agree. He’ll want to ‘save the day’ if only to get on the golf course.

I’m putting off going to a plant store, or grocery for plants. I have 9 or 10 plants that need repotting but I have to wait for spring. At least March. You are so tempting me.
Claudia says
I know. I’m an enabler!

after going to your link to Mere’s blog yesterday I started reading post after post.
finally had to make myself break away and clean house.
I am more enamored of little Z (orlittle buddy) than ever.
his only wanting “two presents for Christmas.” so sweet (not to mention unusual.)
and being a cozy minimalist myself I grinned. what a treasure and a real trooper he is.
little boy mischief mixed with the cutest and most heartwarming face ever.
and OMG. simply eyelashes to die for! I was apparently behind a door while those were being passed out.
I hope your apartment in the city turns out to be as cozy as Mockingbird Hill!
knowing your touch… it will. xo
Claudia says
He got a lot more than two presents for Christmas, of course. He has charmer so many people that neighbors, friends, family, therapists – all of them have a little something for him. His eyelashes are incredible. And he has teeny tiny freckles. Can you tell I’m crazy about him?
Thanks, Tammy!

Smooth moving day tomorrow! Selecting house plants is fun! But I just can’t have anymore with the explorer kitties. And my showere area is already full of houseplants.
Claudia says
I’m not sure what we’ll find and, of course, everything in NYC is more expensive!
Kandi says
I agree, the man is an embarrassing disgrace. Enjoy your weekend and don’t watch the news, it will probably just reveal more of the same gutter droppings.

Claudia says
You’re so right! We’re going to have a weekend of ‘escape-from-the-news!’
Janet in Rochester says
Hey, I say WHY NOT have those yummy chocolate chip cookies FOR your breakfast? Not every day of course but… Up until a few years ago I used to have one meal a year that consisted of nothing but Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies & cold milk. Usually the first Saturday after I got my yearly order of Girl Scout cookies. I’d take a single sleeve of Thin Mints & make a meal of them. All the other cookies were dutifully wrapped & put in the freezer but I’d go to town with a full sleeve of Thin Mints. Looked forward to it every year. Haven’t done that for at least 5 years. No one comes around selling the cookies anymore. The times – they ARE a-changin’. Bummer. Have a safe & easy move getting Don settled in NYC. So glad you’ll have warmer weather for it. Can you imagine doing it with single-digit temps? OMG. Peace.

Loved Thin Mints. Still do! But unless you know a Girl Scout or encounter some of them outside a supermarket selling cookies, they’re hard to find. Thanks, Janet!
Marilyn says
Have a good weekend in NYC. The weather should be nice. Lets hope both sides come to their senses and prevent a shut down.
Marilyn
Claudia says
Thanks, Marilyn.
Susan says
Claudia – really enjoying the photographs of the inside of your cottage. Your plants are wonderful. You inspired me while I was at a consigment store to buy a small stool to put by a window – now I have to find a plant to put there!
Claudia says
Oh good! Thanks, Susan!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I just finished watching “The Poisoner’s Handbook” on You Tube and I found it was as fascinating as the first time I watched it…it still amazes me how much Don looks like Charles Norris!…Have a safe trip tomorrow you two!!…Oh yeah, cookies for breakfast…been there done that..lol..
Nancy Blue Moon says
Um…”payoffs to porn stars”…sounds like great name for a new game show..lol
Claudia says
With the sordid nature of a lot of reality television, it just might happen!
Claudia says
He could be his double, that’s for sure! Thanks, Nancy!
