Friday: Snow Melting

February 27, 2026 at 7:47 am by Claudia

After weeks of being completely engulfed by snow, the Dude has emerged. He is, as always, completely unruffled by wind, rain, snow, and thunder. He is the definition of ‘cool.’

We are in the middle of a little warming trend. It’s still quite cold at night – everything freezes – but we reach the low forties during the day so there is some melting going on. Every morning, I go outside and try to loosen the ice buildup at the end of the downspout that drains into the rain barrel. Then I tap on the downspout to loosen any chunks of ice that have built up overnight. I get a lot of pleasure watching the drip, drip, drip from that downspout. It means that the ice is disappearing from the kitchen roof .

I know we’ll have some colder days next week – just a few – but it does seem as if we’re emerging from the worst of the winter. (I’m going to tap on some wood right after I finish typing this sentence.)

I’m avoiding the news today. My tolerance limit has been reached. I need to take the weekend off. So does Don.

I ordered some wallpaper for a couple of rooms in the dollhouse – three different patterns. If I can get the wallpaper up in at least one room, I can then do the floors. But I’m moving slowly on all of this because of a very limited budget. I’m going to call this project “Slow Dollhouse Decorating” in a nod to all the YouTube “Slow Living” videos. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing it when it arrives some time next week.

Here’s Ella supervising my crochet project. Her title? Quality Control.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

It’s going to be 50 here today and hopefully the weather will move East to get to where you are. The Dude is DEFINITELY cool! (with that snow, in more ways than one!)

I’m laying low on news too. Enough is enough!

It’s supposed to be quite warm here today so I will get out for an afternoon walk. Like your area, it will be chilly again starting tomorrow, but not horribly cold so we are making progress! Have a relaxing, restful weekend!

glad you’re getting to hear that drip, drip, drip … may you, don and the dude enjoy every drip! we’re getting that, too, along with a few startling sounds when large pieces of ice crashing to the ground. suppose to reach 63 degrees here today, then only get to 36 tomorrow. feels like spring has arrived.

will be fun to see your choice of wallpapers, like it is to see your progress on don’s afghan. glad you have those things, too.

and little ella. she reminds me of my sweet maternal grandmother (also named ella). :)

among many other things, i would still like to try weaving (on a loom different than what i rented for that class a while back), but i have set that aside. i have lots of other things to do, plus i want to (re-)focus my creativity on writing a couple children’s books, knitting, painting and finishing a quilt. that’s enough for now!

hope you, don and everyone else have a nice day. stay safe.

It will be in the fifties here today and back down to the thirties tomorrow. Crazy!

      Thanks, Kathy.

      Stay safe.

Hi Claudia! We are getting close to the 40 degree mark and should hit it this afternoon! The drifts are really solid and high around here, so I don’t expect it to disappear quickly, but I am hopeful that we are emerging into Spring. It will come and the daylight is lasting so much longer, that always perks me up!
I can’t wait to see your wallpaper choices! Slow Dollhouse Decorating is what I specialize in… also known as indecision, and too many projects! But there is always something to look forward to! Ella looks so pretty with those colors!
    Enjoy the warm!

      Thank you so much, Betsy.

Yes, the big piles of snow from shoveling and the plow will last quite a while.

      Stay safe.

The fabric print of Ella’s skirt reminds me of Liberty prints, one of my favorites.

Hope the days of loosening chunks of ice in your downspout are limited and warm weather comes soon. It’s been quite a winter for you and Don.

I’m avoiding all news as much as I can. Kansas revoking all drivers licenses for trans people is just too much for me right now. Going to read some books and see if I can relax some this weekend. keep warm my friends!

      Unbelievable. These people are evil.

      Relax if you can, Linda.

Almost didn’t recognize the Dude…it’s been so long. Temp in 50’s today…with 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow…gotta love the quirks of Mother Nature.

Enjoy watching the snow melt again! ;)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
