Garden Art

September 1, 2011 at 12:00 am by Claudia

In the ‘if you have lemons make lemonade’ vein, the broken birdbath has become garden art. The other half will go in the garden bed on the side of the house.

Considering that the huge limb from the maple fell on all my barrels full of impatiens, they look surprisingly good:

I will figure out some artistic thing to do with the base of the birdbath. I really want to get a new birdbath because my little birdies really love taking a dip, especially the catbirds.

And here are all the branches and limbs that Don and I will have to haul up into the woods.

Looks like fun, doesn’t it? Suddenly it’s looking like autumn here with all the leaves on the ground courtesy of Hurricane Irene. This has not been a good summer for me. That’s an understatement. So, though I will miss the warm temps and shorts and the beauty of summer…I’m ready to move on.

Today, we are on our way to Boston for the Red Sox vs. Yankees game! If you remember, the tickets were my birthday present for Don.  We are so in need of a fun day away from all the stress in our lives. I’ll take lots of pictures, of course.

It looks lovely and I am glad you have a great attitude about everything. If you want a temporary inexpensive bird bath just go to a garden centre and get a large pan you would use for the base of a big pot. Just make sure it is glazed inside. I have several and they make great birdbaths.

    Hope your team wins,
    Sue

Your “new” garden art is wonderful! That broken bowl reminds me of a little fairy house… or amphitheatre!
Have fun at the game–go Red Socks!

The heart in the garden is amazing – maybe a sign of things looking up (you have had more than enough of down). Hope the game was so good that you forgot everything else for awhile.

    Claudia,

Hope your day is wonderful! I am still obsessing about the HL bowls. I will need to get one – another fun thing to look for as we travel about.

I also am in love with Anna Maria Horner’s embroidery thread collection. Not sure if I want pearl or floss….

    Hi Claudia,

When my birdbath took a tumple, I used the base as a plant stand. It looks pretty good with ivy trailing down the sides!

Take care of you both and dont over do it too much, looks like you will be hauling for quite some time.

I have the same birdbath stand, my top broke so I made one from cement and added colorful stones it it. You can probable see it on my blog somewhere. Its easy to do so put that creative mind to work and make a top for it.

    Have fun at the game.

I love it Claudia…making lemonade out of lemons! You could take your bird bath base and take an appropriate size silver tray and paint it and bolt or glue it to the stand and you would have a little table for your darling front porch! Endless possibilities! Have a wonderful holiday weekend!~Hugs, Patti

oh-I love the birdbath basin as art in your garden- it’s beautiful! It’s funny sometimes how plants can snap back after such trauma, isn’t it? Your impatiens must have known you would need their spot of beauty to help you with the loss of your tree branches. I think I am glad this summer is almost over also- it’s been a doozy for so many of my friends and I hope good things are on the horizon for all of them-yourself and Don included. Hope you have a wonderful time at the game!!!! ♥

I love your garden art, Claudia. Everything is coming together again, isn’t it? It’s nice that you and Don are able to get away. The timing is just right! Anyways, I hope you come back all refreshed and roaring like a lion! LOL! I am also very happy to see this summer coming to an end. Never have I suffered so much from allergies. There were days when I thought I would go mad from itching eyes which I could not scratch.

Have a wonderful time Claudia! You deserve the break. I well remember the stress post-hurricane brings and getting away for a bit is a good thing. I think you should top that bird bath base with an awesome platter that you find at a yard sale or thrift store! Ann

    Hi Claudia,
I am happy to come by and see that you are safe from Irene (except for the damage it brought). I have a couple of birdbath bottoms that are missing their tops as well and a bunch of dirty birdies flying around in the garden ;)
    sending hugs…

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
