This little rose emerged, a bit battered by the rain. I thought I should take a photo of its resilient beauty.
Everything needs to be weeded around here. It’s completely overgrown. But with all the rain, there’s been no time to really get at it. And in two days we are entering what the weather app calls an Extreme Heat Warning. It will be 99° on Don’s birthday – which is Tuesday. Heaven knows what the heat index will be! This will go on through Wednesday and then we’ll get some relief. I’m going to run to the grocery store this morning to stock up since we’re not going to be running errands during the heat wave. And I’m going to try to weed whack the area around the secret garden. It’s like a tropical jungle back there.
Right now, the windows are open and I can hear birds singing. I saw a bunny rabbit first thing this morning. So darned cute! We do have a groundhog the year, but I’ve only seen him about 3 times. Lots of little chipmunks, and squirrels, and birds at the birdbath. I expect the birdbath will be very busy for the next several days.
This will be a short post, as I have to get going early.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

doing the same here … the weather itself, running errands early in the morning or not at all, keeping curtains closed … unpopular opinion here: i don’t want to wish away time, but i am ready for fall/cool temperatures.
stay safe all the time and especially when gardening in that high heat and humidity! and enjoy the rose.
kathy
Thanks, Kathy.
Stay safe.
“Resilient beauty.”. What a perfect description! That color is just amazing. We’ve been hearing about the heat all across the country…not pleasant. It’ll get warmer here today, and hopefully the winds will die down some. That’s smart to stick up on groceries, etc…sometimes just getting in a hot car is enough to make me stay home. Hope your weekend is comfortable.
Thank you, Barrie.
Stay safe.
Stay cool and stay safe, Claudia!
Thank you, Ellen.
Stay safe.
dear Claudia/Don — hope your grocery adventure is successful — many times, I don’t stick to my list and have to do a lot of backtracking — I count it as a “workout” haha!! Mr is mowing right now b/f hot temps arrive — don’t think the next week is gonna be very pleasant — not a fan of those predictions. hope you stay safe.healthy
You too, Linda.

It is going to be steamy here as well for the next 3 days…heat index in 100’s, then followed by rain for 4 days. My gardens will be a jungle as well I fear. My plan is to hibernate lol, since we shopped on Thursday. Just have to go out and water my containers.
Stay cool and enjoy your weekend! ;)
Yes, I’ll be watering a lot!
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Claudia, just wanted to make another comment. I’m watching a show on PBS, called Craft in America. One segment introduced a miniaturist named Mark Murphy from Astoria, Oregon. His work is absolutely amazing. They showed him making a miniature Windsor chair…it was fascinating! It was fun watching it , especially after reading of your interest in doll houses and all the items you use to decorate them.
I know of that miniaturist. He’s so talented.
Stay safe, Barrie.
Hope you manage to get everything you need before the heatwave arrives. Only once have I experienced such a high temperature as 99F and that was in Northern Spain back in 1993.
I can laugh about it now, but I used to refer to it as the holiday from Hades!
We were supposed to be holidaying with our young son and my ( ex ) husband ‘s parents. His father was unable to travel at the last moment so his aunt (mother’s sister) came along instead.
That would have been fine except the sisters fell out (over a hair dryer) on the second day and refused to speak to each other for the rest of the time!!
Instead of going off to do their own thing, they clung to us for the duration. I was so angry with the pair of them for creating an awkward atmosphere.
To be fair, I think his aunt was the most difficult of the two. I remember I borrowed a fold up stroller from the hotel as we wanted to spend all day sight seeing in Barcelona and I knew my 4 year son would get tired in the heat. She referred to him as Little Lord Fauntleroy!!
Happy Saturday
She doesn’t sound very pleasant! So sorry about that, Dee Dee.
Stay safe.
We’re expecting a heat wave starting tomorrow. Good idea to stock up. We did the same. Enjoy the weekend. Stay cool. Hugs, Elaine
Thank you, Elaine.

We’ve been enjoying the latest litter of bunnies . They live under the neighbor’s porch and are beginning to explore. Also, we’ve had to rope off our porch as a mourning dove built a nest in our flower pot. We never did see the eggs as they are terrific parents. Now the babies are almost ready to fly. The parents have begun to leave the nest and the babies are flexing their wings. I will miss them. We’ve really learned a lot about doves and have become quite attached. Such is the life of a retired school teacher. … Enjoy the sunshine
I love bunnies!
And my favorite bird is the mourning dove.
Have they fledged yet?
Thanks, Eileen.

I got home from the hospital today! So glad to be in my own bed. The surgery went well but they found some unexpected things when they went in but were able to fix it all. I’ve got a bit of recovery time ahead of me but just so thankful I am on the mend. Thank you for your caring thoughts during this time. I appreciate you my friend.
I am so happy to hear this good news, Linda! Now, you must give yourself time to heal.
Take care and rest.
Stay safe.
I’m up to 32 bunny sightings (probably a third are the same bunny, different sightings!). Kind of freaking about the bombing in Iran. Hot as hell — 90s today and more tomorrow. One of the few days of the year I wish I had air-con!
Stay as cool as you can!
We’ll do our best, Jeanie.
Stay safe.
Just gorgeous. I love the color. Thanks for sharing. I think you will be hotter than Florida. I hope it doesn’t last too long.
By Wednesday it will be a bit better.
Thanks, Kay.
