Gifts from the Sea

May 28, 2009 at 2:41 pm by Claudia

You know all those photos of the beach I’ve been posting throughout my stay here? When I’m not taking pictures, this is what I’m gathering ~

I keep them in this lovely old glass sugar bowl~

and this (formerly the home of keys and sunglasses)~

The shells around here are of the petite variety. I never tire of looking at the subtle color variations and markings. They are going home with me to join the shells I gathered last year.

I urge you to read this wonderful novel – first recommended to me by Mrs. Staggs. I finally bought it last week and am entranced. It is all about the isle of Guernsey during and after the Second World War and the story is told via letters. It is charming, moving, sad, happy and really, really wonderful. Thank you, Mrs. Staggs!

I just added Google Translate to my blog. Just for kicks, I translated it into French -I wonder why it looks so much better that way? Have a great day!

Aren’t shells just pretty? They even look prettier in your containers :-)

Aaahhh to walk along the beach line. . . barefooted, feeling the water in your feet while looking and collecting those beautiful shells.

Love shells. You’re getting a nice collection. I put that translation thing on a couple of my blogs too. It’s fun to see it in another language.
    Have a great weekend.

Oh Claudia, I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the book. I just loved it.

Your shells are a lovely keepsake. I especially like that little dark scalloped shell. It looks perfect!

Gifts from the Sea…yes. I read it every 5 years or so. It speaks to me at every age of life. My mother gave it to me, my best friends all have copies. I read it last year again drinking champagne. It is a book for the ages, and a book for all women. It worked when I was twenty and it works in my fifties. Amazing piece.
Thanks for you comment, by the way. See you soon!

What lovely shells, and the memories they’ll always hold for you of your time in CA. I may have to check out that book. And speaking of books, every time I see the MHC watermark on your photos I think of Mary Higgins Clark, my favorite author!… Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Sean’s Mom gave me the Potato Peel Society book when i left San Diego. I adored it too and hope for a sequel. I passed it on to my sister and now Rhianna. Your blog has me spinning in ecstasy and missing you so much!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
