The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

December 8, 2011 at 10:58 am by Claudia

The Good: My Christmas Present came early. On purpose. I’ve been wanting an iPhone for the longest time. I’ll admit it – I envied all my friends who had one.  I’m not a person who needs the newest and best in the tech/electronic world. But the iPhone? That’s another story. I patiently waited until I qualified for an upgrade, which just so happened to coincide with the Christmas season.

I validated this particular Christmas present wish to my husband by saying that (a) I tend to be on the road a lot (how valuable it would be!) (b) I could take cool photos when I didn’t have my camera on hand (for the blog!) (c) it has all sorts of Apps that are lifesavers (and free!) (d) it has much better reception that my other cell phone (it does!) (e) I can get a GPS App (safety when driving alone!)

I took advantage of the new iPhone 4S coming out and got the previous model, the iPhone 4. Much, much less money. I’m totally in love with it. I chose the white version….so pretty!

The Bad: We had very heavy rains yesterday and last night. Our roof started leaking again. It’s either the chimney flashing or some problem with a shingle or two. Hurricane Irene inflicted some sort of damage up there. We’ll have to have someone take a look at it. Cross your fingers that it’s only a minor repair, please?

The Ugly: While dealing with the leaky roof at 1:00 am, I grabbed my pretty cane-back chair (from the studio,) and proceeded to step up on the seat. The chair fell over and I stepped right through the cane. Yep. I was too tired to cry. I think I can patch it with some glue, but it will never look as pretty as it did.

That was my favorite chair. Ever.

I took the photo with the neat Hipstamatic App on the iPhone. This shot provides a little peek into our lives this morning. The lint brush is out because Scout sheds profusely. The box the iPhone came in is still on the coffee table. Those aqua bins are full of Christmas decorations, and Scout is looking toward the stairs because she thinks she heard her dad getting up. False alarm. She’s now back to her floor position.

I’m going on very little sleep but the sun has just come out. That helps.

So sorry to hear about your favorite chair! Those things happen in the middle of the night when your focus in on something urgent. I hope your chair can be repaired so it does look like new and also the repairs on your home are minimal.

I am also craving an iPhone but I still have my phone from 3 years ago which was a Christmas gift. It has a camera which is really all I need but the heart (or in my case, the vanity)wants…

Looking forward to many nice Christmas decorating pictures from the new phone!

    Have a great day!

Sorry about your chair, Claudia, but I’m very happy that you were not injured. Better the chair than you! Hope that it’s nothing too costly with your roof.

Hope you didn’t get hurt (but I’m sure it did hurt) when the seat gave way. Hope the leak repair is minimal. I love iPhones- on my dream list.

How fun for you to have the iPhone! Wish I could justify owning one, but the only thing I would use it for is the camera. It’s a rare day that I have a need for the phone itself. Lucky you! :-)

Oh dear….sorry about your chair and your leaking roof. That’s not fun this time of year. As for your new IPhone…I have an iphone 4 too, in white. I love it too! I had the upgrade and got $50 off. I am not sure what that app is your talking about. I will have to check into that.~Hugs, Patti

Claudia, sorry about the roof and chair. Glad to hear about the iphone. My husband loves his and it takes surprisingly good photos and videos AND the GPS is great. Enjoy. Ann

I am glad you did not get hurt but I am sad about your favorite chair. I see many uses for the iphone too but Joe says we are sticking with the dumb phones. Keep us posted on it’s goodness and maybe I can change his mind. I think it would help with thrift shopping. I have a good eye for quality but have that instant connection to check out items would be great. The GPS will be helpful for you with travel. I have one built into my car and it is pretty cool. Old houses and leaky roofs seem to be a constant theme here too. Hope that works out.

I’m about to pull the trigger and upgrade to an iPhone, but I’m having trouble getting comfortable with giving up my Razor phone. It works fine, I just want a new one. Is it okay to say that out loud?

Replacing the cane on a chair seat isn’t all that hard. You can repair your chair … it’s good that you weren’t hurt.

I’m so very sorry about the chair! Sounds like something I would do. You know when I fell and hit my head on the kitchen floor earlier in the week? Now I’m back in the neck brace due to the pain, and can barely type. Got to get off here. Boy, I’m the clumsiest.

Sorry about the chair and the roof – glad you weren’t hurt! Enjoy your new phone. I have the iPhone 4 (but in black- the white one came out right after I got mine – but I have a pink case on it!) you will probably be an expert in no time. Me? Well it is a good thing my kids all have iPhones or I would still be trying to figure out how to answer it!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
