Gravity, Leaves and Butterflies

October 14, 2013 at 9:07 am by Claudia

Yesterday, on a whim, we went to the movies. We never go out to the movies; it’s usually too expensive for us. But we wanted to see Gravity in 3D and the matinees at our local movie theater are pretty reasonably priced.

3D glasses? Check.

Oh my goodness, if you can go see Gravity, do! It is an amazing film and should be seen on the big screen, preferably in 3D. I don’t know if I’d ever seen a movie in 3D before this; if I did, it was long ago. We were on the edge of our seats throughout the movie – it’s truly incredible. Sandra Bullock is wonderful, as is George Clooney. But Bullock dominates, simply because she is most every frame of the movie. Go. You’ll love it.

Another round of raking awaited us when we arrived back at the cottage. Scoutie came out and joined us as we raked up piles of leaves and moved them on to our trusty tarp and hauled them up to the woods. Scout, by the way, is completely back to normal. She’s eating well, loping down the corral hill, barking when she wants something, pouncing, spinning, and being her silly self. We are so grateful.

While I was up in the back forty, I noticed that the milkweed pods had burst open:

Each burst pod is unique and sort of magical. Go ahead, spread those seeds! We want more here because they bring little wonders like this one, who made an appearance yesterday.

You must be patient when trying to take pictures of a Monarch Butterfly. You have to move stealthily; better yet, stay still and hold your breath. If it senses your presence, off it will fly, swooping, circling, soaring. That in itself is a beautiful sight to behold. But when it lands on a zinnia and decides to hang around for a while, well, that is simply a wondrous gift from Mother Nature.

Happy Monday.

    Glad Scout is okay.
Butterflies are so cool. They are so fragile, yet when you see how for they migrate it’s amazing.
And you got it to smile for your camera!
    Smiles to you.

I know – that monarch will migrate thousands of miles! How do they do it?

Love the picture of you guys in your 3D glasses! I haven’t seen any Monarch butterflies yet. We have yellow ones that are so pretty and lots of hummingbird moths right now. Glad Scout is back to normal.

I have not heard of that movie yet, but I am not much of a tv watcher so guess that’s where I would see a preview. I loved the movie Avatar in 3D, that is a movie that has to be seen in 3D or you loose all the wonderful graphics and color. Glad you had a good day.

I’ve heard good things about Gravity. We seldom go out to movies. It’s been awhile. I think this one needs to be seen on the big screen.

It definitely needs to be seen on the big screen, Pat. I can’t imagine seeing it any other way and having it be as effective and powerful. xo

Loved the picture. You must frame it. You two look like a couple of urban hipsters in those glasses! I hadn’t wanted to go see that movie, but I hear amazing reviews, so my thoughts are a changing.

Yes, see it in 3D. You’ll regret it if you don’t. It’s absolutely worth it. Scout doesn’t seem to want to run around in leaf piles, but she sure is interested in their smell!

I love you two in your flannels and 3-D glasses! I have not been to the movies in years (we generally watch them at home) but now that I know the Gravity is in 3-D I may have to change that. Good to know!! The monarch butterflies are so beautiful. It is wonderful that you grow the milkweed for them. Bravo to Scout and her being back to herself. She sounds like such a sweetheart. I hope the 3 of you have a fantastic fall!!

Same with us. We usually watch at home. But this one is worth going to the movies for – it absolutely should be seen on a big screen.

Haha! Cutie patooties in your 3-D glasses!

We FINALLY had a pair of monarchs visit the garden. You are so very right…you must hold your breath to get pictures! They are so unlike the Swallowtails! My husband called me to the garden last week….I posted pics on my blog. Take a peek if you have a minute. I see your Monarch was attracted to the zinnia. My visitor was only interested in the marigolds in the wildflower garden.

    Hurray for Scout!! :)

I know! Swallowtails linger for what seems like hours. So easy to take a picture. Monarchs are a different story!

Claudia- I don’t remember the last time I saw a 3D movie. Years ago, I think.
We do not have milkweed around here. I used to love them when I was a kid. We made birds out of them (before they burst open) with toothpicks for legs and a burr for their head. Great memories- xo Diana

    Hi Claudia!
It’s been SO long since I”ve done any blogging and Im so glad I stopped by tonight. I LOVE the photo of you and your husband.. I have heard that Gravity is really really good. My husband and I don’t usually go to the movies either for the same reason but I am really considering it with this movie.. We have an IMAX theater not far from here so maybe we shall :).. LOVE LOVE the Monarch.. Oddly, since moving South 11 yrs ago I had never seen one here in my area until this year.. I actually saw 2 of them! They’re so beautiful..

Like you guys, Brian and I rarely go to the movies. I can’t even remember the last time we went to one! Not only because of the outrageous price, but Brian goes to bed very early due to his work schedule. We could see a matinee on one of his days off, but those days are rare. (Usually works 6-7 days/week.) And I’ve never seen a 3D movie! Anyway, I’ve seen a few people on FB post that they loved this movie. If Brian and I don’t go see it, perhaps I’ll see it with a girlfriend.

Hubs didn’t want to go so I went on a day he had something else to do. I loved that movie!! I was on the edge of my seat many times. She’s a fantastic actress. Of course I love those kinds of movies almost as much as I love action movies. I drive hubby nuts because he doesn’t care for them that much and he’s a retired Marine. Go figure, sugar!!!

So glad to see the monarchs enjoying your milkweed! I have read that the more it disappears from our land and roadsides the less monarchs there are to be seen which is quite true anymore :(

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
