The weather was quite strange yesterday with threatening skies most of the day and, by the time I left rehearsal, very heavy, oppressive and humid air. It rained more than a few times back home but it didn’t rain here until after I went to bed. I know this because I was reading the latest Michael Connelly – The Late Show – in bed and was so engrossed that I read too late and couldn’t sleep for a while.
Anyway, sunny skies today.
I have an afternoon rehearsal to attend and then…I’m headed home for two days! I’m taking advantage of having both Sunday and Monday free, a rarity when I’m working out of town, and I’m headed home to the cottage.
We want to put down some pavers next to the shed, I have to work on that sticky floor, and I want to clean our current stove.
Mostly, I want to spend time with my husband.
By the way, The Late Show is great. Connelly introduces a new character in this series – Renée Ballard, a Los Angeles cop – and I really like her. As always, Connelly is a master of this genre and he writes seamlessly. He can build tension like nobody’s business.
Louise Penny’s newest Inspector Gamache novel, Glass Houses, is being published on August 29th. That’s a Tuesday, so yours truly is hoping she has the morning free to get to the bookstore and purchase her copy. Yes, I know I can order it online, but with her books, I like my little ritual of walking in the bookstore, looking for it on display, picking one with a dust jacket that is pristine and holding it in my hand as I walk to the check-out counter.
Okay, my friends. I’m off to hit publish, drink my second cup of coffee and finish The Late Show.
Happy Saturday.
glad you have the next two days off and can go home.
and happy saturday to you!
kathy in iowa
Thank you, Kathy!
Hi Claudia! enjoy the 2 days you have at the cottage and don’t do too much!!!so happy you are able to go for a couple days! enjoy that husband of yours also~I know you will! hugs!!
Thank you, Carol!
I love Michael Connelly and I’m excited about his new character. I have a busy weekend with some housework, yard work and Grand kid time. Monday we will be in the line of the Eclipse 98% and I have my glasses ready. Trying to cheer up but it’s been difficult. So glad you get to go home for a few days!
It’s a really good book, Linda!
That darn little porch of yours is so incredibly-inviting. I could see myself out there at 9 in the morning with my French press & a book. And still there at 4pm, hungry & amazed that 7 hours had passed in what seemed like 2. #WayTooCozy
Have a great weekend at home! 😎
It’s awfully cheery and cozy out there – I plan to spend some time on the porch this weekend.!
How wonderful to have 2 days ~ in a row ~ off, when you are working. I know it is usually just Monday. And not having to worry about weather in the drive home and back! The stars are aligned!! You will be home to share the eclipse, too. I haven’t thought much about that, I guess. We have no glasses!! Will probably have to spend the time indoors! Hope everyone remembers to keep their furry family members’ eyes “safe”, too.
Safe travels today and hope you enjoy your time at home. Even though there is work ahead…. spending the days with Don makes it all worth it!! Have a fantastic weekend!
We’re not supposed to be able to see it here. And no glasses even if we could!
Two days at home? Perfect! You can get some things done…and enjoy some time with Don. Sounds like a full weekend to me. Enjoy! ;)
Thank you, Donna!
Claudia, how long does it take you to drive between your cottage and the apartment in Hartford, on a good day? Safe travels and have a wonderful two days at home. I must look for tConnelly and Penny books…
It takes two hours, Wendy.
I’m the first in line out of over 30 to get a copy of Glass Houses at the library. I reserved months ago. Some day I’d like to own them all in HC but books are no longer in my budget besides I am still paring back. I told the kids they’re on my wish list ;D
It would be nice to have a whole set, Suzan. Some of mine are in paperback and I’d like to replace them with a hardcover version.
Not one word today about Bannon? Trying to stay sane are ya!!
Yep. Plus, I think it’s a distraction. He will be just as evil on the outside as he is on the inside. And he’ll also still be in communication with Trump.
Hi Claudia,
I haven’t commented in a long time, but I read your blog every day! Love it!
I want to suggest Goo Gone for your floor in case it hasn’t already been suggested. It should get all the sticky stuff off. You can find it almost anywhere but especially hardware stores, CVS, Target, etc. it’s wonderful for any sticky residue.
Have a wonderful weekend at home with Don.
Hugs,
Suzanne (Carmel, CA)
I have Goo Gone around here somewhere! Thanks so much, Suzanne. Lucky you, to live in beautiful Carmel!
I love the Monterey Peninsula Claudia, but I really love your cottage and the way you have decorated it, and your gardens, lawns. A very special place!
Hugs,
Suzanne
Thank you so much, Suzanne!
I love the pattern and color combinations on the porch! I want to sit right down and visit or just contemplate.
We just came in from having our coffee out there. We love it too. Thank you, Carolyn Marie.
Glad you two days off. Rest, relax and enjoy. I agree concerning buying books at a bookstore. There is nothing like browsing in a bookstore. I love to do it.
Unfortunately, there are no bookstores near my area. I do not have a car anymore,so it is ordering books on line for me.
Marilyn
Thank goodness that ordering a book online is so easy now!
What a lovely porch and the perfect place to read. I’m glad to know you can go home for a few days. Now I know you are totally the busiest one but I would love to see your little miniature house again. Do you ever work on it anymore? I’ve taken a break but have been making minis and bought a couple of shelves for my house! Anyway, just wondering.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I haven’t worked on it for a long time. I haven’t been in the mood for minis, unfortunately. Hopefully, that will come back soon. In the meantime, Shelia, look up at the navigation bar and you can click on Dollhouses/Minis and you’ll see quite a few pictures of the dollhouses.
Have you tried vinegar Claudia? It’s good for removing grease. Have a safe trip home and enjoy your time with Don.
Yes, I tried vinegar, and it didn’t work. Thank you, Jan!
Hey Claudia. So glad to hear you will be heading home for a few days. As some of the other comments say, that IS an inviting porch. Love the new pillows.
I’m slogging my way through The Crossing. For some reason….. I will finish it though. I’m also lucky enough to have read an advance copy of the new Louise Penny and am attending her Denver book signing. Did you hear a ecstatic squeal!
Can’t wait to see that new stove in it’s new home picture!
Verna
I met her in NYC a few years back. She’s really warm and lovely and she’ll most likely give a talk at the signing. Have fun! I know you will!
Claudia,
My husband & I proudly attended the massive counter protest in Boston today! We simply just had to do something about these horrific times we find ourselves. Over 40,000 people! People like us! Our experience was that this was a peaceful counter protest against hate, bigotry, and, most of all, THAT MAN. ( I cannot say his name…)
He has even labeled me in a Tweet: anti- police agitator. So not true. He just doesn’t get it. I am a 61 year old Grammie!
I hope you have a safe trip home and a wonderful visit with your husband. Enjoy your garden too.
Take care,
Luanne
Bravo! I’m so proud of you and your husband, Luanne!
You’re right – he doesn’t get it. But then again, the only thing he DOES get is how to lie.
Thanks for speaking out, Luanne.
I hope you are safely home by now…or close to it…We had a bad storm here so I hope you didn’t run into any of that…Have a great Sunday and Monday together!
No storm, thank goodness. Home and ready to tackle some projects!
Good Morning! I have found your blog thru my friend Z and I am enjoying it immensely! I can’t wait to see your new stove in place. The author Susan Branch has one that is similar and it is lovely too. Now I wish I had kept my vintage fridge when we moved into our old home. It even had a foot pedal to open it. Have a wonderful week! Kit
Oh, gosh, what a blast from the past – I remember those foot pedals! So nice to meet you, Kit. Z is one of my favorite bloggers!
I love your front porch – it is so inviting!
Thank you, Susan!
