Tiny green leaves popped out overnight. This is the big maple by the house. I quickly scanned the woods and the maples on either side of the house and yes, they’re doing the same thing. Whoo hoo!
I worked outside for quite a chunk of time yesterday, pruning hydrangeas as well as the spirea, trying to get that area under control because it’s way too overgrown. I had to keep crouching down to crawl under the branches. I don’t know if I made a real difference there, but I hope I did. I also pruned a bit of old rose bush growth, started to pull out the old coneflowers that I left up through the winter for the birds. Still no raking out of the rest of the beds, not until Sunday and Monday’s below freezing temperatures are past.
We also brought out the cushions for the porch furniture. I’m doing what I can while I wait for the GO! signal for the rest of the gardens.
But my allergies have flared up with all the pollen out there, so I’ll probably take it easy today.

Hostas emerging overnight.
Amazing what three unseasonably warm days can bring.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

hope everyone has a lovely weekend. stay safe, too.

Thanks, Kathy.
Stay safe.
Isn’t it wonderful? One night you go to bed and they are just branches and the next morning, a gauzy wisp of green has popped!
Yes, it’s fantastic!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Claudia, we’re a few weeks ahead of you here. My maple and Red bud has fully leafed.out. I’m pleased my hibiscus survived for its second season. I hadn’t had luck with hibiscus in the past but this third one may be the charm.
I have lots of weeding to do, especially because of the last heavy rain. How’s, more rain is expected at the beginning of the week, so I’ll hold off.
Hope the physical activity isn’t hurting your back and is possibly strengthening the muscles.
Thanks so much, Wendy.
Stay safe.
We will have a lovely weekend now that Mother Nature’s disruption, shall we say, has passed. Much colder today, but the lack of humidity is marvelous.
We are going to be removing three dying evergreens on Sunday with my son’s help, and putting in two new ones. So all this rain should make removal easier.
Always something that needs to be done.
I haven’t uncovered my plants either, although hostas are popping up. But I will later in the next week or so. I love this time of year…with everything so bright and green. It gives me immense hope for a lot of things. If Nature can renew…so can we.
Enjoy your day! ;)
I love it, too, Donnamae!
Stay safe.
We had a lot of cold rain today so all the blooms on the star magnolia ended up on the ground! Oh well, everything is slowly starting to green up. Your gardens are ahead of mine…lucky you!
Thanks, Betsy. We’re getting frost overnight which is a bit worrying.
Stay safe.
