I had a coaching session yesterday and then I went outside to rake the leaves out of the big garden bed. I managed to get rid of a lot of them, but I usually have to rake it twice. I raked them onto a tarp and lugged it up to the pile.
Then I ate lunch and took a nap.
Today, I’m headed to the nursery as soon as I finish writing this post. I have a list of plants for the porch and the barrels, etc. Hopefully, more will have come in since I was there on Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

On the far side of the front yard, just beyond the lilac bush, the flowering quince has burst into bloom.

My favorite little crabapple, which sits just under the maple on the far side of the house. The larger crabapple just beyond this one has very few blooms. I think the unexpected frost had an impact. Darn!

Deep pink, soft pink and a pinkish white. So lovely!
So far, we’ve mowed the largest section of the front lawn and the corral, which Don mowed yesterday while I was raking out the bed. The back forty is okay for now as is the lilac side of the front lawn. Everything is so green! The maples have leaves, the shag hickory has buds, the ash has started to leaf out – the only trees not looking green at the moment are the catalpas and they are always the last to develop leaves. I guess they like to show off – after all, those heart-shaped leaves are huge!
Alas, my allergies have gone haywire with all the pollen in the air. So have Don’s, though he refuses to admit he has them. He does – they’re just not as insane as mine.
Okay, I’m going to throw on some old clothes and head to the nursery.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

You have a lot of property to handle! Well done. I’m off to the nursery next week. Still a little early but I’l just get cool-weather plants. I don’t dare put in anything much till after May 15!
Always wise to wait, Jeanie!
Stay safe.
Your flowering tree are gorgeous. I haven’t seen any flowering trees here yet…hopefully soon. But everything is greening up nicely. We’ve been busy this past week. We replaced two large evergreens. I should say my son and my DIL did lol. And my husband and I have been busy in other ways, uncovering all the hostas….and transplanting perennials. We still have a bit to go before next Friday. That’s when we’re having cubic yards of mulch delivered for a mulch day with my willing family. Dinner afterwards is a given.
It has been heavenly playing in the dirt though…hasn’t it?
The raking is tedious, but so rewarding I’ve found. Enjoy gardening! ;)
It is indeed heavenly, Donnamae! We had to wait so long for spring.
Stay safe.
Gorgeous colors on your flowering trees. I don’t have flowering trees except for the citrus trees but I do have other flowering plants. Nothing makes me happy like seeing a plant come out of winter and start to thrive! Hope the nursery trip yielded many new plants!
It’s wonderful seeing plants return after a long winter, Wendy.

Wow, I think spring has arrived in your neck of the woods. Your trees are beautiful. Did you have a lovely visit to the nursery? Have a great weekend. Hope your allergies calm down. Hugs, Elaine
I had a nice visit to the nursery and did a lot of work afterwards. My allergies are pretty bad at the moment.
Stay safe, Elaine.
busy days! hope you and don feel good, have plenty of time to rest and relax.
we had a rollicking night of storms last night … lots of rain, lightning, thunder claps and high winds. local tv reported “very, very persistent cloud rotation” directly south of us by less than two miles and it turned into a tornado after passing over downtown (north of the airport) and the suburb just east of it. thankfully no one was hurt and it was over around here by about 10:00 pm. today i am sleepy, but pushing to get some hard things done.
hope today is a good day for everyone. stay safe.

Scary storms, Kathy. Glad everyone was okay!
Stay safe.
Thank you for the picture of the lovely quince Claudia, I used to have one in the garden of a previous house and still miss it. Also thanks for mentioning books to read ,always helps when I am wondering “what next?”
I am almost at the end of a great series by Fran Stewart who writes novels set in a little town in Georgia…mysteries but clever. I have learned so much about American life and history through her books though mostly set in modern times. “Orange as Marmalade” is the first one and I am now on the last…they should be read in sequence…but I am trying to make it last, like you are.
Thank you for giving me a glimpse of your world and as for bad stuff –nothing lasts forever. Megan in Wales.
Sounds like a lovely book series, Megan.
The quince has been here a long time, I think. It still flowers every year.
Stay safe!
It’s so nice to see the blooms!
It is, isn’t it?
Thanks so much, Ellen.
Stay safe.
The color of quince is just fantastic. Very beautiful.
I was able to mow the back lawn on Tues. It took the mower a while to start but when it did, I was so happy. I usually do not have to mow this early but this year no snow, they say it is the least amount of snow for decades. I have never see so little snow.
I read a new author, for me, Stewart O’ Nan. The first book “Even Song” and now “Emily Alone” which is really pulling at my heart. It is about a lady who is 80 years old.
I hope you were able to get some plants and flowers.
Take Care,
Kaye
I’ve heard of that author, Kaye, but I haven’t read anything by him.
Thanks so much.
