At our local library.
Yesterday we were searching for something in the closet in the den. While doing that, we rediscovered this lithograph that we used to have on the wall. It’s really lovely and the handmade frame from the early 1900s is spectacular. I found it at an auction not long after we moved into the cottage. We ended up hanging it here.
It’s a Guardian Angel lithograph. They were very popular in the early 20th century. My grandmother had one – a different scene – on the wall of her guest bedroom where I would sleep when I was visiting. It was on the wall just to the left of the bed. I remember really loving it and feeling some sort of protection from that angel. It was originally my great-grandmother’s so it is very, very old.
Years later, my grandmother had to sell her home and I regret not taking that print. But I was clueless at that point in my life and it never entered my mind. Of course, I ended up spending many years looking for a print like the one on the wall in her house. I finally found this one when we moved here. It’s not exactly the same, but it has the same theme – the Guardian Angel protecting innocent children – in this case, from falling off a cliff.
And that frame! It’s so graphic in its design. We’re happy to have it on display again.
Today, I’m mowing the lawn and Don is raking leaves. We had a frost warning last night and I covered up some vulnerable plants with sheets. Once again – fingers crossed that they’re okay.

Sweet picture…love that frame. How fortuitous that you were looking ‘for something’, and you found not necessarily what you were looking for, but something much more precious…a memory.
We still haven’t had a hard frost here…but come darn close. Any day now, I’m sure. Hope the covering up gave you a few more days.

yesterday’s high (80) and low (64) temperatures were each 17 degrees higher than our average. it’s 63 right now and i like that and function better than 80-plus.

I love the bird feet on the library box! Do you have folk who knit/crochet toppers for postal boxes in the US? It’s quite a thing in the UK and they usually appear overnight from a secret knitter.
I’ve seen Christmas, Easter, Valentine, Jubilee themes etc and they are so cheerful.
I haven’t seen the Guardian Angel art before and you can tell by the children’s clothing that it’s very old. As you say, the framework is graphic. It looks like a combination of a house and the Cross.

I scooted away a little water frog not long ago. I love frogs. Roger and I,”well roger my brother, sometimes caught one. I settled with filling a pail with minnows.
That picture turned out really great. My catholic friends are really into angels. I think God is present always, and angels likely too. I always have a dream catcher.
We learn so much from each other.

That’s a beautiful print and I love the frame. It reminds me of one I have here at home — not the image, which is very different, but the story. My grandparents had a picture of a collie dog guarding a sheep on a snowy night that I always loved in their house. When the house was sold, most everything in it was too, including that, but I always remembered it. A few years ago, a blogger who had an antique store was purging things and we could ask for a box (she picked) and pay the postage. I was so thrilled and surprised when that print was in the box. She didn’t know the story, it was just meant to be. We all need guardian angels these days. That’s a wonderful thing to have in your home.
