Harper’s Easter Greeting and More Egg Cups

April 19, 2025 at 8:39 am by Claudia

Harper wishes you a Happy Easter.

She wasn’t happy. I heard the words “Oh, go suck an egg.”

So there you have it.

I did some work outside yesterday and it amazes me how quickly I get tired out at this age. My first attempt at clearing a small garden bed, potting the pansies, pruning some bushes, and I end up coming in the house with a very sore back, crying and frustrated that I can’t do what I used to do. Thank God for comforting Don, who rubs my back and understands.

I know. The solution is to not take on as much as I used to and/or find a way to do it in smaller doses. And I’m trying, really.

Today, it’s supposed to reach 85 degrees. It’s one of those freakish spring days when the temperature soars and everyone is uncomfortable. It will be about 20 degrees cooler tomorrow. I’m going to run by the nursery this morning to see if there are more plants available. Maybe with the holiday weekend and people coming north for the weekend they’ve set out more stock. Doesn’t hurt to try!

Two morning glory egg cups from the flea market in Paris and two egg cups from Abbey Road in London.

Humpty Dumpty (from England) and two very kitschy egg cups that have salt and pepper eggs.

A bunny carrying an orange egg cup, a scottie dog egg cup, two bunnies holding up an egg cup (another of my favorites) and. a bunny with a pipe leaning against his egg cup cottage.

The first egg cup was made in California, two chicks on a teeter totter (I may have shown this one before in this series) and a beautiful goose pulling an egg cup.

I have a few more to show you and I’ll do that on Monday. I may not get to all of them, but I’ll do the best I can.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday and Happy Easter.

Well, despite her “go suck an egg” attitude, Harper and her vibrant hair, fit right in with the colorful eggs.

Gardening stamina has been hard for the last couple of years for me. I just adopted a geriatric gardening attitude…using a gardening bench, whenever I can. It seems to help. I also take lots of breaks. I figure at least I’m outside.

The family is coming over today to celebrate Easter…so I best get things ready. Enjoy your day. Happy Easter! 🐣

Hi Claudia! Happy Spring and Easter!
I can sure relate to your aching body woes… gardening calls and so much needs to be done. I learned the hard way, a few years ago (got overtired, tripped and broke my arm!) to take it slower. I pay more attention to my messages to stop and rest. My main strategy is to only start the gardening late in the day so I will have to come in for dinner before I’ve exhausted myself… because once I am out there there is always just one more weed… one more plant…. one more task… But the gardening is so therapeutic that I hope I never have to give it up! And especially at this time of year! I do take photos first thing after my walk, but i do the laboring much later. It works for me!
    I hope you have a wonderful weekend…
and I was shocked to see it will be in the 80’s here too!
Enjoy the porch from the shade!

I have to do it early in the day. By the end of the day, I don’t want to do anything. But, like you, I’m going to have a realistic task planned for the day and when it’s done – I WILL STOP. And Don is going to help me with some of the heavier tasks. His back is in pretty good condition.

      Stay safe, Betsy.

one of my most favorite things to see and one of my most favorite ways to get to know a person is (through) their collections. and you have so many great collections! this one is very sweet and i like the egg cups’ similarities and their differences. glad you have them all (and the perfect cupboard for them), and especially a husband who bought you egg cups because they make you happy. :)

thanks for the egg cup tours.

happy, safe, blessed Easter to everyone!

Harper definitely doesn’t look happy… maybe she feels too ‘old’ for Easter egg hunts! I always loved them as a kid. Sounds like some swings in your weather. Hope the plants are out at the nursery. Happy Easter!

I don’t think I ever went on an Easter egg hunt when I was a kid! I guess no one in my area of town did that sort of thing. How strange!

      Stay safe, Barrie.

Well, Harper does look a bit disgruntled sitting among the beautiful eggs you made. Hope the Easter bunny leaves lots of treats for everyone. Hugs, Elaine

I am just amazed at your egg cup collection. So many cute ones. I hear you about not being able to do as much at our age. I am all energy when I start but exhausted when I finish. We had a good rain last night and today is nice and sunny. My plants loved the rain. One day I won’t have to water. Yay! We have been watching the greatest series on Max called The Pitt. We finished it last night. The acting is incredible! Especially Noah Wyle. Definitely one of the best series we have watched. Highly recommend to anyone who has not seen it yet. Enjoy your day. Happy Easter!

She doesn’t look at all happy! Hope you two are smiling a bit more. Loving today’s egg cups. My cousin and I were just talking about that — how we get tired faster, how we don’t know quite when to quit because we think we can do it all. Till we can’t!

I hope you have a lovely Easter day.

I can’t believe you are getting 80. We’ll be lucky to get 60 today and yesterday was worse!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
