Hazy, Hot, and Humid

June 12, 2026 at 8:32 am by Claudia

Oh my god. The heat and humidity have just about done me in. All Don and I were capable of yesterday were the bare minimum of essential tasks and that was it. I watered outside and on the porch. And a bit of pruning in the early morning. That was it. I didn’t even work on the dollhouse. No A/C in that room. At one point, it was 94° but ‘felt like” 103°.

I also couldn’t keep my eyes open and I felt lethargic. I took an hour-long nap and I swear I could have slept more.

Another day of this slop today and some high temps tomorrow, as well. We had some rain last night and today we’re supposed to get thunderstorms.

I am going to make myself do a little work in the dollhouse this morning, just so I can say I DID something.

The Knicks, the Knicks, the Knicks! What an incredible game!

We have daisies popping up right next to the porch entrance:

There are more daisies this year than last. I love them. A ‘cheerful flower’ indeed.

I also did some work outside yesterday morning  and the humidity was so horrid, I thought I was going to pass out. All I was doing was some pruning, but my heavens, it was like walking through muck. So back inside I went.

The crown vetch is blooming. I’m so happy it came back. I think it’s beautiful.

So, a little dollhouse floor work today. Then, when it becomes unbearable, I will turn on the A/C downstairs. Oh yes, we did put in the bedroom unit and I have to say it went right in that window without the usual maneuvering stress. Easy as pie.

Okay, my friends. Time for our second cup of coffee.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

We had some heavy thunderstorms that took down lots of branches and leaves but all is well. Next week it looks like beautiful weather in the 70s so I will save the weeding until then.
    Stay cool!

I’m saving the mowing until then, as well!

If you get the rain and especially the wind (70 mph at times) you’ll wish you hadn’t wished for it. That said, today has cooled down tremendously — only high of 75 expected, though it feels a long way from that now! It was a scary night — tornado warnings in the area (we skipped that warning by about five miles). But the afternoon was pretty sticky!

I hope today is better for you!

We definitely have a chance of thunderstorms, but the radar shows them happening elsewhere. Never say never, of course.

Very sticky out there today. Tomorrow will be better.

      Thanks, Jeanie.

      Stay safe.

stay safe in that weather!! glad your second air conditioner is in place, and hoping the thunderstorm will also break the humidity for a while and give you and don some relief.

glad the crown vetch came back as it’s very pretty. i love them all, but daisies are my favorite flower. :)

did you decide on a stove for the beacon hill?

i finished a very good book and am so grateful to be reading again. a friend sent me one of her most favorite books and i will read it, but have to say the font is dense and very small. :/ in the meantime, i bought some beads online (not here yet, but that art book finally arrived and i love it). i want to make a couple *very* casual necklaces similar to one i made before … same simple ceramic beads, just in obviously-different colors. i need to do something creative and, honestly, to feel like i’ve made a bit more of an effort when out in public and to bring color around my ever-more-graying hair. haha.

for now, though, i need to do more paper-sorting and run an errand. whooeee!

happy, safe days for everyone! : )

Oh, I won’t decide on a stove yet. I have to save up for one!

      Glad you’re reading again, Kathy.

      Stay safe.

I have some hopeful news…weather-wise. Once you get through the storms, cool breezes are sure to come. We were fortunate to escape the worst of it, We awoke this morning, after a horrible week of humidity, to cool breezes…and flung the windows open. The humidity has left the area. And we have a week of low 70’s to look forward to next week. Hopefully, that’s your weather forecast, too.

Thanks for the flower pics….daisies are such a happy flower. Glad to hear the air conditioner went in smoothly. Stay cool today….enjoy! ;)

Why not get a cheap a/c and put it in your dollhouse room ? Then you’d be comfy and able to proceed with your dollhouse reno .

You know, I’m fine with be limited to mornings on hot days. After a lifetime of late nights working in the theater, both Don and I have become morning people and we seem to do our best work then. I got a good 3 hours of work in today on the kitchen floor. I’ll finish it tomorrow.

Besides, I really love the process and if it takes a longer time in the summer, I’m okay.

      Thanks so much, Barbara!

      Stay safe.

Are you able to do some flooring prep work downstairs instead of in the room upstairs? I know you wouldn’t want to carry Beacon Hill up and down the stairs, but what about the staining of the coffee stirrers prior to laying the floor? Not knowing your entire process, don’t know if that’s feasible.

No I stain the sticks as I go because I have no idea how many I’ll need for a particular room. It worked fine today, I laid half of the kitchen floor, staining the sticks in small groups so as not to waste any.

      Thanks, Wendy.

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
