Heading Out

January 10, 2019 at 9:35 am by Claudia

Sometimes, since I don’t always take pictures the day before, I realize I have nothing on hand and I have to grab my phone and take a picture right before I’m about to write the day’s post.

That’s what this is.

A slice of life.

I have to drive to Hartford this afternoon. I’m spending the night in one of the apartments – actually, I think it’s the one I used to stay in – and that means I have to take some coffee, filters, filter holder, and half and half with me. The amount of stuff I have to pack for just one night is mind-boggling.

It will be strange staying in that apartment, yet not immediately hanging quilts and/or rearranging the furniture. Though there might be a wee bit of that, just because I can’t help myself. In some ways, it’s easier if you’re traveling to be there for a longer period of time.

Anyway.

I’ll see the first preview this evening and then I’ll work with the actor tomorrow afternoon. Then I’ll head home in Friday rush hour traffic – oh, goodie! I’m grateful for the work, of course, and the chance to see Darko again, as well as the company manager and stage manager, who are old friends of mine. Grateful to be earning a little more money as times are tight again for us. I was just saying to Don this morning that it was nice not to have to worry about money when he was earning an ETM paycheck. We got more than a little spoiled by that, even though we weren’t doing anything extravagant. Now, it’s back to reality, with my brain constantly calculating and re-calculating what we have, what bills need to be paid, what has already been spent – basically the things that most everyone has to do on a daily basis.

I’m grateful I’m not a government worker who has been furloughed and is worried about paying the mortgage, all because a petulant child wants to get his way. I can’t imagine the stress they are going through right now.

The winds kept up for over 24 hours and even my husband, who is not bothered by wind, had had enough. The gusts were so loud last night that they rattled our bedroom windows. Now we’re headed for some very cold weather over the next four days.

I’m thinking of taking my iPad with me and not my laptop. Writing a post is way too frustrating on the iPad and I have no idea what my schedule will be tomorrow morning, so I won’t post on Friday. I’ll be back again on Saturday.

Happy Thursday.

first, what a lovely view! i like that mix of patterns and very cozy setting!

second, agree about government workers and the “baby”.

and the need to watch my own funds. i am a social worker in a non-profit setting and haven’t had a raise in eight years. if 45 thinks the economy is great for everyone, he is wrong – and now is not the time to play “chicken” with our economy, a wall or anything else. it never is.

and the wind. the only time i like anything above a little breeze is when i’m on a sailboat … and that, sadly, happens almost never.

third, hope you travel safe and get done what you want in that apartment and with the show. glad you and your friends can catch up a bit in hartford.

Safe travels and I hope you enjoy the time working. As our work life winds down it’s good to have time to reflect. The hard part is less income for sure. The ‘child’ is driving me mad. It’s cold but sunny today. A few errands with Mom and then a bit of sprucing up the house before the Grands come for dinner. One of my Atlanta blog friends just lost her husband to a massive stroke. I am so sad and hope to go to the memorial service if I can. Life is so unpredictable isn’t it. Hugs!

That’s a lovely slice of life picture. I remember when you first got that chair…is it still comfortable?

We’ve been through many lean times…so I sort of understand what the federal workers are going through. Except that, I never had to work my full shifts, and then not get paid. I can’t even imagine what that feels like. And to storm out of a meeting? It would be unconscionable….except it’s the child-in-chief, so what else could we expect! But…I digress…sorry.

I’m glad you’re able to go to Hartford again…you are off to see your old friends…and do some work. A winning combination. Safe travels! ;)

I hope all goes well in Hartford and you have a wonderful day.

And yes, we’re all worried about the shutdown. We don’t need a national emergency. We’ve been in one for two years.

Claudia, though an intense 24 hours of travel and work, I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of the interaction with the people. I know driving won’t be fun… I got a laugh over how you need to bring coffee and the paraphernalia that goes with that, including half and half!

I think we’ve been sending our weather to you again. We had the same thing – a deluge of rain, then high winds, now very cold. The sun just came out this afternoon, which is always so nice, but dang…it’s COLD! We’ll be getting some snow on Saturday, too but just 1-3″.

    Safe travels!

the entire WALL mess is in his own lap. HE BRAGGED through his entire run that he will “build a wall and MEXICO will pay for it!” who in their right mind ever believed THAT? now we need to remind him of his crass and stupid election promise at every rally across the country!
and of course they won’t and never will. nor should they! but it apparently got him elected.
now WHO mentions that? he ‘promised a wall’ and it wouldn’t cost Americans anything. LOL
so now he walks out of meetings like a two year old. he yells and pouts. and searches for anywhere to lay the blame for that stupidity! and of course it’s all the democrats’ fault.
so he shuts down the government. and again it’s “NOT HIS FAULT!” yeah. right. then when that’s not working he’ll declare a National Emergency. we have a national emergency alright and its name is Donald Trump.
lordy. lordy. I say I’m not going to let him get to me and yet I do! and I can feel my blood pressure going up higher and higher.
    AND btw…
I dearly LOVE your picture! sometimes they’re the best kind. after my rant… which you’re welcome to delete … I’m wishing you well on your trip. be careful darling bean! you’ll be tired. and commuter traffic you know is brutal! get there and back home safely. xoxo

Oh, tammy, my BP raises each and every time I see that disgusting face of his. With his rants of late, I am hoping one day he holds his breath long enough so his head explodes. I can’t imagine him or his daughter/ son-in-law, nor Congress for that matter, working for no paycheck. THAT is where the government shutdowns should start. No pay for that group first before impacting the health and safety of the rest of us. It is all totally ridiculous.

Claudia, safe travels!! I know it will be a bit bittersweet. It has been so cold here the past 2 days. Although I do wonder if it is more because it has been quite warm up until this point. Enjoy your time in Hartford!

I love the rug and the colors in the chair look perfect together.

    Safe travels.

We are in South Texas amid all the controversy. Very interesting but overwhelming.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
