Home For A Brief Visit & The Chair

January 8, 2017 at 9:53 am by Claudia

Oh heavens, it’s cold here! This morning it was 15 degrees, but it felt like 2 degrees. I’m sure it’s the same in Hartford. It’s supposed to hit 50 degrees on Wednesday. Go figure.

I successfully dodged the snow yesterday and made it home by about 11:30 am. There were snow showers along the way, but no accumulation. Don was here when I got home and after I unloaded the car, I saw a large box in the den containing…my new chair! When I ordered it from Pier One, I had it delivered to our local store, rather than pay the addition $150 to have it delivered. Cripes! No way. I figured that if it was too big for the CR-V, Don could borrow a friend’s truck and bring it home. It arrived on Wednesday and I got the message from the store while I was in rehearsal. I called them back to tell them Don would be picking it up in the next couple of days, but Don, that good guy, surprised me and picked it up the same day.

So we unpacked the box. But first, we took the chair it was replacing out of the den and managed to drag it upstairs to the studio. That chair is vintage and it’s very, very heavy. (I am determined to get it reupholstered because the lines are really lovely – I’ll take a photo of it sans ill-fitting slip cover later today.) It would be the perfect chair for Don to use downstairs in the living room.

We then attached the legs and I vacuumed the floor, and there it is:

Taking a photo in the den is somewhat difficult, as there are windows on three sides of the room. This was taken late in the afternoon yesterday. Isn’t it pretty?

And with the lights on. It’s very firm and for me, that’s good, because it gives great back support. It also sits a little higher than the other chair – interesting, because I was worried it would sit lower – and I really like it. Of course, my back has been having to adjust lately to two different beds, two different sofas in the apartment, neither of which has any support, and chairs in the apartment that are not meant for lounging, so it’s been complaining a bit.

Here is the profile of the chair:

That’s a sort of faux leather on the side.

Gosh, I’m crazy about it!

Today, there is laundry and cleaning to be done. And I have to take down our pretty white Christmas tree, which has been up a bit longer than usual due to the fact that I’ve been out of town and Don doesn’t want to mess with it. I brought the Christmas decorations I used in the apartment home with me, and I’m going to store them in the cupboard under the stairs.

We watched the documentary about Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds that premiered on HBO last night. It was lovely. But it was so bittersweet and poignant in the face of their deaths within a day of each other. The whole thing doesn’t seem real.

Tonight, Sherlock  with my husband and then tomorrow, it’s back to Hartford for tech rehearsals.

Happy Sunday.

Watched the Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher special also. It made me tear up a few times, in those Mother,Daughter moments, probably more so because of their recent deaths. Also I do love the new chair.

Thank you, Nancy! I just had to go out to the shed to get the bin for the Christmas decorations. It’s really cold and windy!

Claudia, the chair is just lovely. The fabric is beautiful, and I just love the lines/ style of the chair itself. It looks quite comfy. All that is needed is a nice warm throw, a book in your hand, and a cup of something warm on the side table!! Heavenly!

    Enjoy your day with Don!!

This afternoon! But, then, this morning, I had a throw wrapped around me and some coffee and I was reading, so there’s your picture!

What a beautiful chair. I hope you enjoy it everyday. I noticed you’re reading Believing the lie. I thought it was one of her best. Superb plotting and writing. I can’t wait to read your review. Looking forward to Sherlock tonight too. Have a wonderful Sunday!

I’m almost done, Colleen – just under a hundred pages to go. I won’t review it, though, because it has been out for a while. Have a lovely day!

Oh my word, your new chair is lovely. Glad you got to go home for a few days. It was 34 here in Florida when we woke up this morning. It’s 50 in our house and the heat will need to run constantly to heat it up, we need new insulation & Windows. We’re getting a new to us chair today too. Can’t wait to see how it looks.

I love a good chair! May you have many many hours of relaxation and reading in it! I’m looking forward to Sherlock, but is it really the last episode of the series??? Already??? At least, I’m looking forward to Victoria, too. The deluge finally came into my area….heavy rain all night. It wasn’t just a pitter patter on my skylight, it was buckets of water pouring onto it. Will rain all week.

It’s either feast or famine, isn’t it? Dry, drought – or tons of rain that the dry ground just can’t handle. Hang in there, Wendy!

Ugh…just got back into the house from the rain after covering a leaking window. Need to caulk it when the weather is dry.

Oh no! That’s not fun. I guess in that kind of torrential rain, anything that might leak, will. Take care!

That chair is lovely and elegant. It looks so comfortable. It is sad concerning Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher dying one day after each other. They were great entertainers. So talented in their own way.

They were incredibly talented. And both of them were strong women. It’s very, very sad.

It is so cold today but I was able to get to church and it was so good to get out! I love the chair, it is just right for your home. So glad you got to see it when you got home. I don’t have HBO so missed the special on Debbie and Carrie. I’m going to try a new recipe for cabbage soup today! Hugs!

Your new chair is very pretty and looks even MORE comfortable. Perfect for those curled-up-reading-on-a-snowy afternoon times. Very very cold here too, and the wind chimes outside my front door has been PEALING away – but only a dusting of snow on the ground & not much more expected. With 50 degrees due on Wednesday – can’t wait. Whatever snow we get by then should be nicely-melted off after a couple days of temps in the 30s & 40s. This is Winter weather I can cope with. Have a cozy, tucked-in time reading this afternoon! ☕️

Mine too. The wind chimes have been non-stop all day! Since they were my parents’ I like to think they’re talking to me.

Cold, windy, but very sunny and that I can appreciate! I just finished doing all my ‘chores’ and now, I’m going to sit down and answer comments and then finish my book with some…hot chocolate!

I will have to watch that Sherlock episode again; simply superb. I do believe they get better with each season, each episode. I literally don’t move for the entire 90 minutes. I hope I’m wrong but I thought I read this set of episodes is the last.

And I too love the chair. Pier One has the prettiest things.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
