Remember those hydrangeas? Last year, I thought they had been killed by an especially heavy snowfall. Many of you gave me advice, which I took, and they started coming back nicely last year. They’re even better this year.
Of course, we’re going to get very heavy rains today and tomorrow – there’s already a flood warning – so lord knows what will happen to them.
We’re going to shop for groceries this morning before the two-day deluge hits.
I saw the most adorable thing yesterday. The two baby rabbits were right outside the kitchen door and they were playing and/or sparring, I’m not sure which. They would jump up and down on all fours, jump on each other, do it again and again. It was absolutely enchanting. Then they stopped and continued eating.
I haven’t seen Buddy (the one groundhog I’ve named) in a couple of days. He wasn’t near the tree on Friday afternoon and I didn’t see him at all yesterday. They drive me crazy at times, but I worry about them. Where did he go? I just pray he’s safe. Mama rabbit was dining on the grass here yesterday. A favorite sight: Mama lying on the ground, all stretched out, happily looking around. She’ll do that for a long time.
Don calls her Buddha.
What else? I started the day today reading Babel, then I meditated. I’ve been enjoying getting back to crossword puzzles again. I completed the three puzzles that I printed out, and am currently working on yesterday’s puzzle, which I printed out late in the day. And today, of course, is the Sunday puzzle. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m quite adept at solving them. But they’re a challenge and sometimes it takes me a couple of days to complete a puzzle. I love that challenge.
My rules: I never do them with another person, just as I never do my jigsaw puzzles with anyone else. I don’t want help. If I can’t get a clue, then I can’t get it. And I do them in pen. I tried my favorite pencils long ago, but I’m really a pen person. Sometimes that means I have to write on top of an incorrect letter. So be it.
We haven’t turned on the a/c yet, but you can feel the humidity in the air. And now there’s a dust cloud from the Sahara headed here. Such a bizarre summer!
Stay safe.
Happy Sunday.

glad those pretty hydrangeas came back.
hope buddy does, too.
same worry here about earl/the squirrel. had signs that a raccoon likely was on the (second-story) deck at my parents’ home two nights ago so we wonder if earl could tell, got scared and is staying clear for a while …? made a change in feeding and set-up to hopefully deter any raccoons and to encourage earl to come back. we miss him.
good luck with the rain.
sounds like you need no luck with the crossword puzzles! several years ago a friend and one of his work colleagues created a puzzle, submitted it to the new york times and they published it! :)
i got a lot of chores done at home yesterday morning, after grocery shopping/deliveries and four other stops (dropped off some donations, etc.) late on friday so a quiet start today is much appreciated.
hope you all have the kind of day you want and need. weather, too. stay safe.

Thank you, Kathy.

A bizarre summer but a beautiful and interesting one with your wildlife of animals and ‘things growing’; absolutely lovely hydrangeas, too!
Claudia says
Thank you, Vicki.
Stay safe.

Rick and I do the puzzle (Sunday crossword) together. Others I do on my own. But the jigsaws are mine alone although if supervised, I’ll allow someone a chance! I have things arranged and if you get more than one hand in the pot things get moved from one pile to another and I get hostile!
Claudia says
I know! I have my pieces in piles and I don’t want them messed with!
Stay safe.
Kay in SE WI says
Whoa, have not heard anything about a dust cloud. Strange summer indeed. But at least we have our wildlife neighbors to keep us entertained/concerned/aggravated.
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
Thanks, Kay.
Stay safe.

You hydrangea really looks great…glad to see it sprung back! I have three limelight’s in the backyard that are in full bloom. Should be perfect for wedding pictures me thinks. But, my other hydrangeas only have buds, or no buds at all. Don’t know why some are slower than others. I’m stumped.
Watching all your baby animals can almost be a full-time job. We have a pair of baby raccoons that visit at least once a day…they are so fun to watch. I wonder where Buddy is hiding these days?
Enjoy your crosswords! ;)
Claudia says
I have one small hydrangea near the memorial garden – not one bloom this year!
The limelight and annabelle hydrangeas are full of blooms.
I don’t know about Buddy and it’s worrying.
Stay safe.

Most of the raccoons here live in the sewer. I saw an adult pair trying to get their kits down the sewer opening the other day. Something spooked them. I know it isn’t funny, but I was entertained by how all of them crowded the opening so no one really was able to get in until a couple of the youngsters were able to slip in and the raccoon blockage opened up.
Claudia says
Wow! That must have been a sight to see.
Stay safe, Wendy.

dear Claudia/Don — hydrangeas are gorgeous — perfect success for you all !! I also love doing crossword puzzles– the Mr has ZERO tolerance for that type of thing, does not understand
how/why I can lose myself completely in them — mainly b/c they are not technical or biblical, ha!
he has “put up” with my obsession for over 52 years so I can’t/don’t complain (too much, ha)
enjoy your rain — we could use more altho not really in our forecast. stay safe
Claudia says
We had too much rain, Linda. Flash flooding everywhere!
Stay safe.

Loved your description of the bunnies at play. Did you know a group of bunnies is called a “fluffle”. So much more descriptive than “colony”. It seems like the perfect name for a group of gambolling bunnies. I used to do my crossword puzzles in pencil but my eyesight isn’t what it used to be so I’ve changed to pen. My husband has no interest in crosswords but he’ll occasionally come up with an answer for me if I’m stumped. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Hope you won’t have to call Noah to come get you in the ark with all the rain they are predicting. Stay safe. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
We really did need an ark!
Stay safe, Elaine.
