I Forgot the Forget-Me-Nots

August 26, 2016 at 10:52 am by Claudia

It’s Friday, I slept in (thank goodness) and I’m now awake enough to write this post. Or I think I am.

First of all, for those of you who missed my misidentification, the flowers that are blooming in the Memorial Garden are Forget-Me-Nots, not Four O’Clocks. (Smacks herself upside the head.) And it would make sense that flowers in a memorial garden are Forget-Me-Nots, would it not?

But apparently I forgot.

8-26 forgetmenots

Here they are. Five petals, not four (the earlier photo seemed to show four petals.) Forget-Me-Nots are such sweet flowers.

As to the beloved ones that we will never forget, we did this yesterday:

8-26 onthewall3

Forgive the picture – it was early in the day and the lighting wasn’t the best, so there’s a lot of ‘noise’ in the picture. Again – we love all our windows, but they’re pouring tons of light on this wall. And I don’t have the patience to tinker and tinker and tinker until I get it right. We’ll leave that to the decorating blogs.

When Winston’s portrait arrives, we’ll add it above the thermostat and alarm box. We’re thinking we’ll have to move the Maxfield Parrish. It clearly doesn’t belong in this group. But where, oh where, will I put it? It’s my first Maxfield Parrish and it deserves a place of honor!

8-26 onthewall2

I think the canvas of Riley and Scout will take its place. At least, that’s what we’re thinking at the moment.

From the Maxfield Parrish hanging above the turntable to a gallery of our beloved babies. All thanks to Shanna. (I think I’ll be thanking you forever, Shanna!)

Today is supposed to be a humid one – yuck – so I’m not sure what I’ll be doing. What I should  be doing is gathering all my tax info and making a list of my deductions; we always file an extension. That, my friends, is a job I detest, but it has to be done. Then, as is always the case, I will have to spend a fair amount of time nagging Don to get his done.

And so it goes.

Happy Friday.

The framed pictures look wonderful. Just a regular day of chores here at my house, same as you. Some things we need to do. Take care.

The library always seems to be the perfect place to go on a hot day, Linda. Enjoy!

I agree Mr Parrish wil have to find a new home. While I wait to receive Penny’s new book next week, Tuesday, love Amazon pre order right to my door . I will start to read something old Gladys Mitchell’s Mrs Bradley books. Hard to find but the library has a close to beginning of series volume so I will see if I like to read it. Diana Rigg was so wonderful in the series, so I have her voice in my head, which will make it fun I ( hope ) to read. Humidity…yuk! Stay cool and dry.

I’ve just now hung the canvas of Riley and Scout there and I like it. Mr. Parrish is wandering around the house right now as I try to find a home for him. I’m going to the bookstore on Tuesday to get the Penney. I sort of like being part of the ‘unveiling.’

Forget-me-nots. Around here, they bloom in April and early May. So beautiful any time of year! I just don’t know what to expect from my plants. The morning glory bloomed early, but few blooms and one at a time…now, nothing. Hope that’s not all we’re getting this year.

Well, I didn’t plant them until the end of May, from seed, so it’s taken a lot longer to have them bloom. Morning Glory has yet to bloom, and the Moonflower, as well. Waiting.

I love the gallery of pictures of your doggies. You’ll find another place of honor for Maxfield Parrish. I have so many things to hang. Right now, they are on the floor, propped against the wall. I had three play dates (!) the past two days, so chores today. One play date was to see Florence Foster Jenkins with my daughter. Meryl Streep’s acting was her exacting self, but we couldn’t help but discuss how we hoped that it was a great make-up job on Streep and Hugh Grant, otherwise both have really really aged!

They probably have. Streep is older than I am.

Yes, I think the wall now has to be devoted to your doggie loved ones. It will be a lovely gathering; you’ve chosen well and they’re right there with you in a mutually-familiar room of the home.

I have always had a lot of nail holes where I don’t want them because ‘art’ gets shifted with new finds, old finds. I’ve become something of an expert “nail hole ‘patcher'” over the many years. I honed my skill over a lot of years being a tenant/renter with picky landlords but I refused to have bare walls just to protect their darn paint!

Oh me too. I’ve been patching holes in the wall since my early twenties! Landlords were not going to keep me from hanging things I loved!

The wall looks so fun with all the pups there! And the sunlight just makes it look all the better. Real life. I’m sure the Parrish will find an equally grand spot.

The humidity seems to have broken again for a bit. However, there are big trucks in the street scraping it down and they are pouring hot tar and pebbles over it. The smell brought me back in the house even though the humidity was actually do-able. Some sort of “progress” being made out there, I guess. Have a great Friday!!

Forgetting forget-me-nots….priceless! I think your new gallery wall of your kids will look splendid! Have you found a new place for your Parrish yet? It’s been pleasantly cool today, which suited my many errands. Enjoy your evening! ;)

Love the way you have done the wall. So special. I’m sure the Parrish looks great where you have relocated it. Love the sunlight coming in your windows.

I tend to speak my mind, as you do. Please don’t continue to apologize for the “quality” of your pictures. In my mind, it only brings any perceived imperfections into focus…your pictures are fine…most of your readers only want to see what you see, and if the light is imperfect, so be it..unless you’re submitting for awards, no apologies are necessary…

Very sweet of you, but knowing me, I’ll most likely continue to apologize!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
