I Love a Hardwood Floor

October 8, 2011 at 12:01 am by Claudia

When last we left the dollhouse on Tuesday, I was in the midst of cutting popsicle sticks and staining them for the hardwood floor in the living room. In my usual obsessive fashion, I kept at it until late that night, determined to get it finished. It was rather like putting together a puzzle (and I love a good puzzle, especially the crossword variety) and time, patience and a lot of glue on my fingers paid off.

Nifty, eh? Do you see the painstaking work on my part? Do you see how I fit the pieces around the base of the stairs?

Not that I’m tooting my own horn or anything.

I love the way the individual sticks or…ahem….planks took the stain. Each one has a slightly different grain, so they look very real. I wonder if I should give them a very slight touch of wax?

Thought I’d add some furniture for fun. The room to the left will be the kitchen. Doesn’t it look like construction is going on in there?

Two packages came in the mail today with some more supplies: spindles, some beadboard, wallpaper, a chair rail and some molding. Oh, goodie! Tomorrow, I will work on the dollhouse. Don’s been sick in bed with a cold and let’s just say that he doesn’t handle sickness well. We’ll leave it at that. So, I plan to retreat into dollhouseland.

Your floor looks so great! I do love how it picked up the stain. I have a feeling that your little house remodel is going to be amazing. I know that wicker chair sure is!! I think I have chair envy!

Oh I love it. Makes me want to get busy and work on my dollhouse too!! What fun huh? I am crocheting a shawl for my daughter. It is to be a Christmas present for her best friend. I just finished an African Flower Blanket for her which is another Christmas present to another of her friends. Then the other day a friend called and wants me to make a quilt for her sister. I did have plans to start my dollhouse. Do you think I will ever get to the things I want to do for me?????

Yes the variety in the stain looks good, and I’d say definately get some wax on it – you saw what a wonderful finish it gave to Josje’s floor. (http://josje-bouwt.blogspot.com/ post dated May 19 2011)

You did a fantastic job and you should be tooting your own horn. Between Mom and Dad, Don being sick I bet you need to move into the doll house. I am swim meet bound in Orlando later, I’ll call you.

It truly looks like a real hardwood floor! Makes me miss the ones in my former home.
Enjoy your day playing in the dollhouse, and I hope Don feels better quickly. I so understand what poor patients some men can be!

Oh yes, I love hardwood floors as well. You have done a great job Claudia, and the bit around the stairs looks especially good :)

I would certainly put some wax on it, it gives the wood that lovely deep and soft shine. I love the smell of wax and the sense of satisfaction I get from giving it a really good rub and getting a beautiful shine out of it.

Toot that horn and toot it loud. If would have screamed if you have put in wall to wall carpet. I think it’s perfect. Great job.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
