My one lone grape hyacinth surprises me each spring. It pops up between these rocks which line the garden bed by the porch. It’s tiny, so I often miss its entrance into the world until I happen to walk by and – there it is! Whether it self-seeded or was planted by a past owner of the cottage, I’m not sure. But I love it.
Don is home. His bus was about an hour late last night. Apparently, people were leaving the city in droves, so getting to the Lincoln Tunnel took forever. We’re having a slow morning. Looking out the kitchen door, we’re seen blue jays, robins, sparrows, a chipmunk, squirrels, and a bunny rabbit. Our morning Disney movie.
I broke my promise to myself yesterday and cleared out two more garden beds. So I was tuckered out at the end of the day. I’ll take a day off from all of that today because Don is home. My back will be thanking me!
The daffodils in full flower. Because these sit on the the edge of the woods, the flowers are always on one side only, facing the sun. Aren’t they pretty?
Hearing the birds singing joyfully as I write this makes me smile.
Happy Birthday to William Shakespeare. He’s brought a lot of work my way.
Happy Monday.

What a great line – “our morning Disney movie’ – !!! Too cute. And true too. You really are smack in the middle of one where you’re at. We’re having a textbook Rochester April day. Mid 50s. Sunshine & that special “soft” light you only see in the Spring. Birds twittering away like mad at 5 am. And that heady fresh earthy Spring smell. There’s NOTHING like it. So invigorating after months of Cold, Still, Brown, Gray and Dark. The Universe certainly knew what it was doing when it drew up plans for the seasons. Every change is always welcome. You and Don have a lovely time today. Plop that back down for some serious reading or TV or just talking/napping. Peace. π±πΏππ·πΌ

Have a happy Spring day! 70βs where I am. A little too warm for me but Iβll take it. Lots of gardening yesterday, trimming, planting, amending. Will just sit back and enjoy looking at the garden today. As I was trimming off spent salvia flower stalks yesterday, a hummer was feeding around the plant and got within 12β of me. I just went statue still until he finished feeding. So thrilling for me!

Such a vivid blue on that hyacinth. I have blue lavender (native to my area) but it’s more muted and not nearly as eye-catching.
Spring here too in SoCalif with still-green hills now tinged with wild yellow mustard, and my husband spied blue lupine over the weekend on the side of the road. I’d hoped we’d get some April showers to keep things this way (spring-y green) – – but April is zooming by pretty fast, so it seems less likely now; here we are already, in the last week of the month. Sometimes I wish time could just stand still for a minute and allow me to catch my breath!
We spent the whole darn weekend working on my old car after bringing her out of offsite storage. She’s a vintage darling but pooped out on us last week when we went to take her for a spin. My car-genie husband got everything back to order on her, she got washed and out on the road by yesterday evening; and, as usual, we got comments wherever we seemed to go. One guy said, “I haven’t seen a car like that since I was in high school!” (He was old, like me.) We chatted and he said, “I can’t believe anybody would hang on to a car for 44 years!” Well, yeah, some of us are nerdy that way…
Claudia says
Glad your car is fixed and ready to roll, Vicki!
