Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery…

March 13, 2012 at 8:30 am by Claudia

I’ve never thought of myself as someone who is a decorating trend setter. Until now.

“Really, Claudia?” you say.

Yes, really. Let me state my case in a simple, forthright manner.

A few months ago, I purchased this chair for the dollhouse. If you doubt my words, read this post.

A comfy, ‘Christmas in Connecticut’, all-around beautiful chair. Predominantly in blue and white.

Yesterday, I opened the current issue of Country Living to find this:

Now, I hesitate to say that Country Living is following my blog and emulating my every decorating move, but…..you’ve seen the photos. The evidence is right in front of your eyes. They didn’t credit me, but I’m a magnanimous person. I’ll take the high road. If I’ve inspired them in any way, I’m happy. They took the safe route, of course, with blue and white, while I was a tad more daring with the addition of a dash of lavender.

They’re still learning.

I love your style Claudia! I also think that florals are going to make a comeback, along with English Country decorating. Downton Abbey is beginning to have an influence on design, and the Edwardian era is known for its pastels, florals and chintz.

OMGosh! Funny! Always good to start the day with a laugh. I will say both chairs are stunning, looking forward to seeing what ideas they’ll use for inspiration next month. Keep us posted. Have a great week.

Oh most definitely! :-) But to tell the truth, I much prefer yours with the dash of lavender AND that lovely box pleating. So classy!

Oh my gosh, you are so funny!!! LOVE it!!! Yes, they will learn if they keep reading your blog :)

P.S. When you start renting rooms in your doll house, Amanda’s old doll house family from the early 90’s would like to check in. Your doll house is MUCH more appealing than the one they are living in now! haha

That is too funny, Claudia, and while I think it is wonderful that you are being so magnanimous, I do think they owe you a big apology for obviously stealing your thunder. :)

You’re having fun with us! Love your wicked sense of humor! That chair is VERY close to the one from your dollhouse. They had someone scouting your website for vintage ideas. I just know they did!

Oh, how funny, Claudia. You are definitely a trend setter. I think you should try wearing your flannel jammmies in public and see if that starts a new fad….oh, wait..there are people that are already WEARING their flannel pj bottoms to Walmart. Now you need to set the fashion to include the tops to match the bottoms!;>) xo Diana

Who knows what they are planning, Claudia! I think you had better be on your toes! I would not reveal too much if I were you! First the chair, and then what? Only time will tell! But, you’re on to them, Claudia, and they know it. This is going to make it really hard for them. So, be on the lookout for spies. Okay!!

    Life imitating art perhaps??

Carolyn (Carolyn’s little Kitchen blog) told a funny story a while ago about the intersect of the ‘real’ decor world with the mini. A New Zealand decor magazine approached her and asked if they could do a photo shoot at her house – they’d seen photos on her blog and didn’t realise it was a dollhouse!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
