In and Out: Two Views

February 2, 2015 at 8:33 am by Claudia

2-2 view

This has been my almost-constant view lately, as I sit in my chair, kleenex in hand, sniffling, coughing, drinking orange juice, generally feeling yucky. Sometimes I read; actually, I’ve been reading a lot, sometimes I browse on the old internet, sometimes I feel sorry for myself. Waaah.

Last week was a tough week and this one….well, it’s starting out with a bang. We’re in a snow event here with snow falling all night and about 7 or 8 inches on the ground this morning, with snow expected to fall all day long. Here’s another view for you today:

2-2 snowevent

Soon it will be higher than our chairs on the funky patio.  I got up around 6 this morning, jolted awake by a coughing fit, and Don got up just long enough to go out and shovel Scoutie’s little corral for her. Then he went back to bed. This picture was taken about an hour later. You can’t even tell where Don shoveled.

And the temps are frigid out there, which doesn’t bode well.

I’m ready to shovel, but Don won’t let me. (I may sneak some in.)

We are ready for winter to be over.

Unfortunately, it’s only February 2nd.

Thanks for all your wonderful 10 favorite movie lists yesterday! What fun it was to read everybody’s faves. As I suspected, each time I read a list, I was reminded of yet another movie that I loved. (I stealthily added Cinema Paradiso  to my list later in the day.) If you haven’t read the comments on that post, you may want to make some hot chocolate, or coffee, or tea and peruse everybody’s favorites.

What else? I’m just about to finish Howard’s End is on the Landing  by Susan Hill and I’m diving into The Long and Faraway Gone  by Lou Berney. I have a book review coming up on this blog tomorrow.

I’m taking a little survey on Just Let Me Finish This Page, inspired by a chapter in Susan Hill’s book. Do you jot notes in the margins of books? Are you someone who never writes in the pages of a book? Or are you somewhere in between? Stop by Do You Scribble in the Margins?

Happy Monday.

Stay tucked in–that storm just left us here in Northern Indiana and we have 12+ inches from it. VERY cold here this morning as well. My husband made a dog-run from the side of the house around to the back with the snow blower which is a good thing because the snowfall is taller than the dogs! I feel your sickness pain. I spent the whole month of January with Whooping Cough—-I didn’t even know you could get that anymore! The only good thing about winter is when it is over. I love the picture of your living room with the sun streaming in.

Hi, we are snow and icebound as well…I love being trapped in a cozy house, makes me take more notice of the nooks and crannies, and I usually end up rearranging something that was perfectly fine…but I do love changing things up a bit…it always gives me a feeling of satisfaction! Keep warm and stay inside, Don is right! xxoo

HI Claudia — missed yesterday’s post, so I’ve gone over and added my list. Fun comments! Sorry you are being dumped on yet again. We were forecast to get up to 6″ and instead we have rain and a pile of slush outside. It is damp and chilly, but at least we are not digging out. I do hope you are feeling better.

Hi Claudia, Sounds like we are suffering from the same malady. I’ve actually started taking an over-the -counter remedy as I can’t stand the constant coughing! I do not do well with antihistamines in general but trying to care for an equally sick 91 yr old mother is really doing a number on me. My other treatment is tea with honey and lemon. Thinking of adding a dash of gin. What do you think? :) Linda

I know the snow can be a pain but to me it is so beautiful. Our oak leaves are flying off by the hundreds this morning. Happy thoughts winging your way today for a speedy recovery.

I don’t know about that one….When we lived in the city and I walked my dogs all the time, I still got colds. And I got one in Hartford, when I was walking Scout several times a day! I’m outside a lot, even at this time of year…. Tonight it’s supposed to go down to well below zero.

We had it all day yesterday. Ugh. We ended up w/ about 8 inches, but the drifts from the 30 + mph wind gusts are a bit incredible. There were times when we couldn’t even see the house across the street. We do have bright sun today, but the wind chills are about -10*. Ugh, again.
I hope you feel better. We had the flu over Christmas, and it hung on for several weeks with that awful cough. The Tamiflu surely didn’t touch that. I finally got a script for some codeine infused cough medicine so I could at least sleep. Surely The Winter of our Discontent!! ugh.

We have to have at least a foot of snow out there and there’s no sign of it easing up at the moment.

That being said…the cold air might feel good…nice, cold, fresh air! Last night I reread the comments on yesterday’s post…and I really forgot a lot of favorite movies! It was good to be reminded! We got about 8 inches. It’s beautiful…very cold though. Enjoy your day…maybe you’ll find a good movie or two! ;)

Important—- I learned the hard way. DO NOT go out and breathe cold air. My mother use to say go outside so you don’t breathe the germs. So I did. Our doctor is all about nutrition and prevention. He said that is the worst thing to do. Please believe me. I haven’t gotten a serious upper respiratory infection since taking his advise. Lani

Oh, it was fun for us too, Claudia [if I may be allowed to speak for everyone here – LOL]. Loved reading everyone else’s lists too. Considering that many of us share a lot of the same interests, it was truly amazing to me how different all the lists were. Reminded me of those lists that the AFI published around the time of the Millenium – you know those “100 Years, 100 Movies” lists? Lots of fun to look at those too. If you find yourself drifting a bit today, take a look at http://www.afi.com/100years/ and see how many from your own list are on the AFI lists. And let’s make today your last sick day, young lady… :>)

I watched the latest episode of Broadchurch 2 last night – the ever lovely Charlotte Rampling has joined the cast. Seeing her again makes me think I’ll have to add “The Verdict” to my list of watch-again movies.

You have my sympathy, Claudia, for both the cold in your head and the cold outside your door. I have also been sidelined, but not because of the weather. I had a tooth pulled Friday and I’m still recovering. The pain was more intense and longer-lasting than expected and I got the added bonus of a hideous bruise. It’s over two inches wide and runs from my lower jaw down my neck to my chest. I about fell over when I saw it. I look like someone tried to strangle me with one hand! I got three books from the library to console me, so it’s not all bad.

This morning I took a picture of a corner of my living room, the sofa with pillows, a bowl of mandarins, a new blue lamp and behind on a chest sat a yellow orchid and small treasures. I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.
